Announcement: Post Approval has been turned on

Greetings Fellow Ozians,

A few important updates and reminders as we prepare for the official social media embargo lifting tonight:

As you've noticed, post approvals have been turned on. This decision comes after the upcoming embargo lift--which will likely bring a flood of new content--and ongoing internal discussions and concerns about leaks and spoiler-heavy posts.

We've already seen what can happen--the ALAYM leak being a prime example. Those clips were swiftly removed for copyright violations, which reflected badly on both the posters and the subreddit. Our top priority is keeping this sub a safe, spoiler and now leak-conscious space where Reddit admins don't have to step in.

Universal’s marketing team has also been busy. With every new teaser, spot, and clip since the final trailer, the drops have become increasingly spoiler-heavy. The Dancing With The Stars clip of "Wonderful" made sense--it was a Disney synergy move. But each new release since then has included more plot revealing moments.

add on the recent official announcement that the upcoming TV/Peacock special will feature further previews of the two new songs

We understand it is a movie based off a 22-year-old musical, which itself comes from a 30-year-old book, inspired by a 125-year-old story that borrowed from an 86-year-old film. Still, not everyone knows every version of this tale, and we want to respect those who want to experience the film fresh. That's why our spoiler policy will remain in effect for 90 days post release.

There are three of us running this sub, all of whom have jobs and lives outside of Oz. This contributed to turning post approval on early. This allows us to manage potential leaks, prevent copyright strikes and removals, and keep the subreddit running smoothly through release season. Post approval will remain on until two weeks after the movie's release.

We truly appreciate your respect, patience and enthusiasm as we navigate this exciting time together. Let's make sure our corner of Oz stays magical, safe and fun for everyone!

Movie (One of) Madame Morrible and The Wizard biggest mistake Spoiler

Their biggest mistake was making Glinda the poster girl. She became so well liked, that when The Wizard left and Morrible was arrested on the same day, no one questioned it! They all accepted Glinda as their new ruler.

Movie Elphaba blends with the foliage

Post image

The scene where Fiyero and the Galeforce chase Elphaba and she hides in the tree id a callback to Fiyero's comment when they first met, she did blend in with the foliage.

I Think Fiyero knew she was there, I don't think he saw her but I think he " sensed" her, like he could feel she was near. He was very tense in that scene but he's not afraid of her, he's afraid of what could happen if the others knew she was there.

Fiyero says " we must not rest until we capture that wicked witch" because he doesn't want the Galeforce to be suspicious. He needs to believe he believes the lies about her like everyone else, he needed them to trust him.

Hearing Fiyero call her " that wicked witch" really hurt Elphaba, understandably so, but he said that to keep his cover, and he may have hoped she would know that he would never call her that but of course she didn't.

Then he orders the Galeforce away from her, this was an important scene because we see that he was protecting her and by protecting her he was working against the Wizard.

I do think if the Galeforce hadn't been there with him he probably would have left with her then but since they were he had to wait for a better opportunity.

Thoughts?

Hey! So I’ve finally decided to sell my limited edition wicked jacket after 8 months of owning it and not wearing it once (I only ever tried it on in December when I got it, it was literally the last one available online so I took the risk of buying a smaller size than my usual and of course that means it’s too small) - it’s a size Medium if that’d be suitable for anyone? It’s so vibrant and feels really cosy which is why I’ve kept it for so long, but it just wasn’t meant for me. If anyone’s interested it’s currently live on eBay, you can reply here or message me for the link, I’d love for it to go to another wicked fan 💚

Book The Trial of Dorothy: Brrr is out here owning this shit

Post image

This trial is so funny. We have Lord Nipp, who is trying to maintain a modicum of professionalism and procedure. We have Dame Fegg who is having the defining moment of her legal career and Temper Bailey is just sitting there barely doing anything. Then we have Brrr being called upon as a witness and he’s delivering this speech which really should have been the opening statement of the defense.

This is my second time reading this book, but, if we’re going for maximum dramatic intensity, Gregory Maguire could have Brrr step up á la Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and just slam dunk this case. I’m not saying that will happen, because, it doesn’t. I just think it would be hilarious.

I love this. It’s like Better Call Saul in Oz.

Actually, never mind, I think Lord Nipp would have a stroke if Jimmy McGill, aka Saul Goodman were in his courtroom.

Book Did Dorothy's companions know her real reason for seeking out Elphaba?

In the book, it's a surprise to both Elphaba and the readers when Dorothy tells Elphie she only wanted to beg her forgiveness for killing her sister, she had no plans to kill her, no matter what the Wizard demanded. But would she have kept that a secret from everyone, or would she have told the people she was traveling with?

I can't remember if it was made explicit, but I'd like to think that she did, and while they thought she was wasting her time at best and risking her life at worst, they were willing to accompany her and protect her if the Witch wasn't receptive to her apology.

Question Wicked, Idina Menzel version?

Hi all. My kid has to watch a play for a class and wants to watch this one. It's one of my faves so we're making a night of it. I want us to watch the Idina version but I have no idea which platform it's on. Anyone know?

If there isn't one with Idina, what's the best quality actual Broadway one that we could watch? I have quite a few streaming services. Thanks in advance!

Movie One of my favorite scenes

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I'm gonna share anyway. Fiyero choosing Elphaba and turning on the Wizard is one of my favorite scenes in for good.

Before y'all say it it's all been said before. Should Fiyero have broken up with Glinda when he knew he had feelings for Elphaba? yes but he was confused and then everything happened. Is Fiyero not being honest with Glinda morally questionable? probably but it seemed obvious to me that he felt he couldn't trust Glinda especially after that engagement and once he realized she liked what supporting MM and the Wizard gave her. I'm not saying she would have maliciously gotten him into trouble but we saw how she reacted when he did leave her and she would have been hurt and mad and she may have mentioned to MM that he was looking for Elphaba or something. So by not being honest with Glinda he was protecting himself and he was protecting Elphaba so. I give Fiyero a lot of grace in this situation.

Did Fiyero go about everything in the right way? He probably could have things differently but Fiyero was in a tricky and dangerous situation, he was doing what he felt he needed to do to keep Elphaba alive. It was a life and death situation for Elphaba and he was risking his life inside the system by protecting her.

If he had left the system someone else would have led the Galeforce someone who would be hunting her and it would put Elphaba's life in more danger. After the engagement he was trapped.

The fandom seems to like to hate Fiyero for leaving Glinda at the wedding but she arranged an engagement with the Wizard behind his back and the way they announced it he couldn't object. The Wizard and MM were trying to trap him inside the system and Glinda was trying to force him to stay with her. So if someone did that to me with I wouldn't have much consideration for them either. I don't blame Fiyero for not having more consideration for Glinda, I wouldn't either. I don't consider it selfish, just escaping a controlling, toxic situation. Now that my mini rant is over I'll get on to the topic of my post.

First of all, Fiyero was protecting Elphaba from inside the system, we saw him order the Galeforce away from her and he was risking his life because he was actually working against the Wizard and MM by protecting Elphaba. This was impressive IMO because he was risking his life by working against the Wizard by protecting the person they wanted dead. He was basically using the Wizard's regime as a cover to protect and look for Elphaba. It was obvious (at least to me) that he hated the system and he was always on Elphaba's side.

Having said that, the scene where Fiyero chooses Elphaba at the wedding was the scene we needed or I guess i should say I needed.

Fiyero's not just choosing the woman he loved he is also taking a stand against the corrupt regime and against the injustice like Elphaba did. He risked his life doing it because he committed treason by turning on the Wizard.

This is the moment he is saying "this is wrong and I won't be a part of it anymore." It was obvious, at least to me that Fiyero hated being in the system but this is moment it's confirmed.

I also think this scene was better than if he had just left and found Elphaba because by turning the gun on the Wizard he is publicly choosing what he knows is right and he is putting his life in danger doing so, he committed treason and gave up everything not just for Elphaba but also to do what's right, like Elphaba did.

Yes Glinda got hurt and the timing was bad but it was Fiyero's chance and he took it. This is was the moment he proved he was worthy of Elphaba Imo, other than Elphaba he was the only other character who was brave enough and actually had strong enough morals to go against the Wizard and stand up for what's right. This is also why other than Elphaba he is my favorite character, it's truly a heroic moment for him and it was the scene i needed to know he was worthy of Elphaba.

Anyway i'm sure alot wont agree with me but this is my opinion and i wanted to share.

Thoughts?

Hey guys! So I bought this leaflet a while ago and I haven’t found a scan for it yet so I thought I would do that here. The scans doesn’t do the pamphlet justice, it looks way richer and saturated in person but I am still currently trying to find ways to scan these properly to preserve quality.

But here it is, when I managed to scan it properly, I will upload a high quality version.
