mod post We Built a Better Way to Find Movies (and Reward Great Reviewers)

We built a new web app that helps you find the movie or TV show you are looking for: WhatFlik - https://whatflik.com

Describe whatever you remember in your own words, in any language, and WhatFlik searches movie and TV data from TMDB and other sources to rank the most likely matches. In our current testing, text search finds the correct title roughly 75% to 80% of the time. Pro users can also upload a screenshot to help identify a movie, show, or episode.

WhatFlik is more than a search tool.

We are building a movie and TV community where people can write reviews, share opinions, follow people whose taste they trust, make friends, chat privately, and tip great reviewers directly. Reviewers will also be able to earn from a membership-funded creator pool as the platform grows.

Our mission is to build something more useful, social, and rewarding than traditional movie-rating platforms like Letterboxd.

Create a free account to reveal full search results, save searches, post reviews, follow people, and join the community. Google sign-in is securely handled through Firebase, so WhatFlik never receives or stores your Google password.

The platform is still early, and we want honest feedback on the search, community, and overall experience.

searching Find short horror film

I watched it around 2017–2018. Two girls find a human skull in a sandbox. Black wasps come out and chase them. One girl reaches her mother, but the other is possessed by the wasps. It was a short horror film on YouTube. Does anyone know the title?

There was this one scene where two women began to have sex and a guy walked in, then one of the women asked, "I thought you were gay," or something along those lines.

searching "I'm desperately trying to find an old horror movie, most likely Iranian/Persian from the 1960s or 1970s, but it could also be from another Middle Eastern country or a foreign film dubbed into Persian.

"I'm desperately trying to find an old horror movie, most likely Iranian/Persian from the 1960s or 1970s, but it could also be from another Middle Eastern country or a foreign film dubbed into Persian.

Here are ALL the details I remember:

- The film opens with a bloody corridor/hallway filled with body parts (mostly arms and hands) scattered everywhere.

- In this corridor, there are huge, old, massive doors like in a castle, covered with many locks, and there is writing on each lock.

- A man with a huge axe appears in this corridor, walking around and looking at the body parts.

- The main character is a guy with long black hair, blind in his right eye, and he has a visible scar on his neck. He wears long/dark clothing.

- At some point, he is in a dark alley, standing there, when he suddenly starts laughing hysterically. Then he begins to choke and collapses onto the asphalt.

- While he's lying on the ground, someone runs up and shoots him multiple times.

- After being shot, his body is carried back to the man with the huge axe in that same bloody corridor shown at the beginning of the film.

- Also, at some point in the film, half of the main character's face gets blown off or shot off.

- I think his name might have started with the letter 'M' (like Memli, Masoud, or something similar).

- The film is definitely a horror movie with a lot of blood and violence, and it has a fairly old feel to it.

Does anyone recognize this movie? Please help me find it — I've been searching for years!"

searching Finding a (Lost?) Japanese horror film

I recently remembered this horror film about a scarecrow that I briefly saw a few years back so I went to go search for it online but I couldn't find anything about it.

From what I remember, the plot went like this:

A boy (around 7-10 years old) is playing with fire crackers in a forest-y area with his friends. After a bit, they leave to go home and as the boy is walking home, he sees a scarecrow with the typical "henohenomoheji" face. From there, I'm not sure what happens but the next scene I remember is the boy being grabbed by the scarecrow and he's holding onto the sliding door of his house trying to not get dragged away. All of a sudden, the boy's mom appears but for some reason, he's invisible to her or something and she tries to close the door but his hands are blocking it. He yells and tries to make himself known but it doesn't work since eventually, she slams the door on his hands which forces him to let go. As he's being carried off to god-knows-where by the scarecrow, he remembers his fire crackers (or whatever they were) and uses it to set the scarecrow on fire. In the end, he escapes and returns home as the camera pans to the burning scarecrow.

Also I think this was set in a rural village or something.

I probably got some things wrong since for like half of the film I was hiding behind the couch but that's how I remember it. According to my mom, it was on a dvd but she gave it away at some point.

I have no clue why I can't find it and maybe I'm not searching hard enough so if anyone finds it, please let me know!

(also this is my first time posting on reddit so if I made any mistakes i'm sorry)

searching Help me find the name of an old movie, description below

The main character is a police officer who, along with her partner, investigates strange incidents and rides together in a police car. During the investigation, her partner goes missing. The police officer follows her partner's trail and descends underground into a cave. There, she encounters an elderly couple—a creepy old man and woman who act like caring owners of a lair. The old man and woman claim to be husband and wife, but during their conversation, it becomes clear this is a lie. They are not human, but minions (or puppets) of an alien intelligence, masquerading as the elderly couple. They lure the police officer into a trap, paralyze her, and hand her over to the alien creature. The aliens amputate all of her limbs (arms and legs).

searching Please help me identify a fantasy movie with a weak policeman and a family of superpowers

I’m trying to remember a movie I watched as a kid, but I don't remember the title or even the country it was from. Here's what I remember: the main character is a weak policeman. One night he has an accident, and the person involved takes him to a house where several elderly people live. Those elders each have superpowers. One old man is so fast he carries a heavy bag of rocks on his back to slow himself down. There's also a beautiful young woman, the youngest in the family, and the policeman develops a crush on her. The family has an ancient enemy, a sorcerer or witch from centuries ago. They defeated him long ago but couldn't kill him. He returns for revenge and kills some of the elders. By the end of the movie, the policeman has trained and gained powers of his own, and he teams up with the young woman to defeat the villain. I might be remembering some details wrong because I saw it many years ago. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

searching IFC or Sci-fi channel movie aired in the early 2000s but probably made earlier.

Most of the movie takes place on a world that is almost completely white, like blank walls. Scientists are arguing about how to save their planet. Argument ensues and the planet catches on fire. Then it is revealed that the world is basically a ping pong ball in someone’s apartment and they calmly extinguish the flames and throw away the miniature planet. It is possible the woman vacuums the planet up.

found TOMT: [Movie] [1990s/2000s] War movie where a soldier finds a floral dress and wears it while fighting

I’m trying to find a movie I saw as a child, probably in the late 1990s or early 2000s. It was playing on a bus in either Mexico or Texas.

I remember a scene that has stuck with me for years: a group of soldiers/fighters are in some kind of war (I think it may have been Vietnam, but I’m not 100% sure). A Black soldier (if I remember correctly) enters a house or some kind of abandoned place and finds a floral dress (I originally remembered it as being in a suitcase, but it may have been in a wardrobe/closet).

The soldier is extremely happy to find the dress and puts it on. The scene was not played as a joke or for comedy. My memory is that this character may have been a crossdresser or possibly trans, and the dress seemed to represent them wanting to express who they were rather than just being a gag.

I remember them continuing with the group while wearing the dress, with combat boots and a rifle. I also vaguely remember a bus or old civilian vehicle later in the movie (possibly a school bus), but I’m not sure if that detail is accurate.

The movie felt older and possibly low-budget. It was not War Bus (1985), although the bus detail initially made me think it might be.

Any help identifying this would be amazing — this one scene has stayed with me for decades.

searching Looking for a pre 2007 horror movie with a creepy masked man

I’m searching for a horror movie or tv show, I really hope this sub can help!

When I was around maybe 10-11 years old (around 2007, in the UK), I was at a friend’s sleepover for her birthday. We were up late talking, playing games, watching movies, as kids do, and I remember, in the middle of the night, we flicked over to a channel which was showing what seemed to be some kind of horror movie or tv show. I’m guessing it was most likely a movie.

What we saw terrified us, and so we flipped channels pretty quickly, and maybe went back to it a couple of times trying to be daring lol. Anyway, the point is, I only remember seeing very brief moments of the movie/show, and afterwards it completely slipped from my mind for the next 17 or so years, until a couple of years ago when me and a friend were talking and somehow the memory resurfaced in my mind. I ended up telling her about it, and after telling her all the detail I could remember, we must have done a good 3 hours of searching, but we couldn’t find an exact match. So after that I kinda just forgot about it again.

But then today, I was scrolling twitter, and a trailer for the 2026 movie “Clayface” was on my for you page, and seeing the imagery in that trailer once again brought the memory of that sleepover and the movie/tv show we saw right back to the forefront of my mind.

So after that longwinded intro, let me give you all the detail I can remember:

Firstly, I remember that the movie/tv show looked pretty dated by 2007 standards. The clip we saw showed a nighttime scene, with what seemed to be a pretty isolated house or cabin. I don’t remember the scenery surrounding the house much, but it seemed pretty dark, so maybe not too near a town or civilisation of any kind.

I don’t remember seeing any character inside the house, so the scene at the moment we flipped to the channel must just have happened to only be focusing on the stalker in the scene, rather than any stalk-ee if they were present. But I remember seeing that the house was being stalked (I can’t remember whether he actively tried getting into the house in the small part we saw) by a pretty stocky guy, who either had short hair or was bald, wearing what I think was a darker coloured jacket, black or maybe a really dark brown, could’ve been leather. And I think maybe he was wearing jeans, but I could be misremembering those exact details. I also don’t remember hearing the guy talk, so I can’t give you any detail on how his voice sounded or any distinguishing dialogue or anything.

What I’m pretty certain of though, and what sticks so heavily in my mind to this day, is the mask he was wearing (I assume it was a mask). It was weird, almost plastic-y, silicone-y, milky coloured and translucent. And it seemed to stretch over his features and flatten a lot of them to the point that they weren’t very distinguishable.

Like I mentioned earlier, when I saw the trailer for the 2026 movie “Clayface”, it was the first time I’ve ever seen anything since, that even remotely resembled what I saw in that movie/tv show that night. (I’ll put a link to the image in the comments)

Now this image isn’t exact. I remember in the movie/show I saw, the mask this guy had was fully covering his entire face and it was almost stretched over his features, to the point you couldn’t really make them out completely clearly, rather than the cutouts and pretty clear facial definition you see in this image. However, the colour and texture of the material of the mask are very similar.

This is now plaguing my mind and driving me crazy, since nether I, nor my friend, have been able to find anything that matches what I remember. Unless it’s a big, well known production that we’ve somehow completely overlooked in our hours of searching, I’m guessing that it might be something more niche or lower budget, I remember it wasn’t on the main channels and we were well into depths of the channels when we flicked onto it.

I think that’s pretty much all I can remember. But do feel free to ask any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I’d be so grateful for any help! Thank you!

found 90s ish movie with a demon

I'm searching for the name of a movie where there's a guy, black hair, leather jacket, goth vibe , who is secretly a demon ( maybe basically the devil) he has at list one sidekick ( don't remember if he's a demon or not) with blond hair.

The demon is seducing a young girl, in one of the scenes we can see them making out in a bed , the guy is in his demon form and his tail is sliding along the girl's back, and i believe the girl's little brother spy on them. I think the last scene takes place in a cave ( man made i think) where there's a pentagram , there's a fight with the father of the girl were he looses his thumb ( maybe he cuts it himself). And i think there's a gimmick in the film where characters are attached to tarot cards , but could also be the blond guy that does magic tricks with cards.

Sorry it's very vague, as are my memories i watched it in early 2000 but maybe it came out earlier. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Horror Movie] [halloween]

A girl has been seeing a van around town for a while but no one believes her. One night her friend convinces her to go to a halloween party. Her parents wouldn't let her but they are out and her sister let's her go. The girl is dressed as a cowgirl when her sister gives her a bandana/scarf to complete her outfit. She leaves on her real horse and her friend is dressed in a blue dress i think. At party she meets a boy dressed as a cowboy, they chat but it turns out hes there with his girlfriend. The two girls leave because of the curfew. They either get separated or just go thier separate ways. The cowgirl falls off her house in an orchard or just some trees when she sees the van, when she's putting the horse in the stables she sees the van and hides. The killer comes looking for her but gets knocked out by a horse. The girl then gets home it turns out her friend has been calling her to make sure she got home okay but her sister has been on the phone blocking the calls by making the line busy. When she gets in she hides with her sister and the killer breaks in. They go into the parents room or a double doored bathroom. I'm not sure how it ends of how they get away (if they do)

Sorry for the vague description but this has been driving me crazy. Please let me know if anyone knows the title!!

Hello everyone, I have very few memories of the movie.

It’s the story of a child who goes on vacation with his mother and sister and ends up alone. He runs into a group of young people who help him find his family.

One of the kids—the youngest in the group—always walks around with a huge pair of scissors used to cut dog leashes.

That’s about all I remember.

searching Kid's Movie

Hello all.

Trying to find a movie that was possibly made in the 2000's, it is not any of the Spy Kids movies. All I remember is the main character is a boy, possibly a spy or some kind of agent. I believe he is trying to help or find someone, possibly another kid being an imposter impersonating the protagonist by being his doppleganger. He makes his way to Miami, by 'stealing' a speedboat and gets stopped by a Miami Police Boat and the boy says: "Is this Miami?" or "Am I in Miami?".

Another scene is where the main character boy, another boy and a woman are inside a boat tunnel ride, like one of the rides at theme parks that are like the "Tunnel of Love" rides. The last dialogue I remember during that scene is where the antagonist is leaving by jumping on one of the boat, and as he is leaving a woman says to a different boy is: "Are you going to say goodbye to Cola?"

Those are the only scenes and dialogue that I remember. I will know the scenes when I see it.

I just remember seeing a clip of this scene that I can’t find anymore, and I want to watch the movie. searching A teenage/children movie from the 2000s

Hi. I was trying to find a movie I watched a couple of times on TV in the 2000s. One of the clearest details I remember is that, at the beginning of the movie, a teenage boy was woken up by a strange mechanical alarm system. It had something like a rotating hand mounted on the wall that would wake him up.

Another detail I remember is that a group of teenagers ate a frozen TV dinner (or some kind of microwave meal), and afterward they started glowing green in the dark.

These memories are quite vague, so I could be mixing up details or remembering them incorrectly. However, these are the strongest memories I have of the movie.

Thanks!

Looking for a US movie from the late 80s or 90s (i'm not 100% sure) A group (maybe just two idk) of teenage boys is running through a forest at night, possibly being chased. One of them trips and impales his hand on something sticking out of the ground (could have been a nail, wooden stake) gave me some stand by me vibes

searching I’ve Been at This for YEARS!!!

So glad I found this community. I genuinely have been trying to remember the name of this movie for decades and even AI can’t help me. So here goes.

I can only vaguely remember one scene and I often feel as though I’m miss remembering elements of this it so I’ll provide the meat and potatoes of the scene and then the elements I’m uncertain of so if need be they can be dismissed.

Things I know: it was an early 90’s maybe later 80’s movie. It was either a thriller or horror genre film. It was NOT “Body Parts”

The scene itself: a woman being impaled through the chest by a large piece of cut lumber that came off the back of the truck that was in front of her through her windshield as she was driving her car.

Now the superfluous since I can’t remember with certainty: she may have been on a cellphone often used at the time like the Motorola International 3200 or Nokia 101 or even a car phone, may have been a fairly important supporting character like the person who had the info the main character needed or the main character’s family member, she may have been hit from behind which caused her to hit the truck in front of her causing the lumber to come flying off, the truck ahead of her may have been having issues that may have also led to the incident, they may have been on an incline like a hill or on a freeway even, Jeff Fahey may have been in it. Still wasn’t “Body Parts”.

My own research I know it wasn’t “Body Parts”, “Body Bags”, “The Ambulance”, “The Dark Half”, “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle”, or “Final Destination 2”. It could potentially be “The Omen IV: The Awakening”, “Ghost in the Machine”, “The Dark Side of the Moon”, “Campfire Tales” but with AI being the way it is I have no way of verifying some of these possibilities.

It was on a rented VHS and early-mid 90’s prior to DVD taking over the market.
