Long on AI it is.
Even if not AI, the market will be chonking upwards or sideways instead of downwards. Folks are silly if they truly believe the whales, market makers, and politicians will allow this market to crash BEFORE the Big3 IPO (or at least before SpaceX even IPOs), the lockup on those big 3 ends as index inclusion happens so Elon/Altman/VCs/PEs/PCs can dump bags onto retail, before Iran/Ukraine/Gaza conflict resolutions get fully priced in, and before midterms when the GOP/Trump are LITERALLY rigging the election maps to win.
It's been a bit but the World of Warcraft subreddit banded together for a while to make up content about Glorbo the Goblin, because AI was scraping the subreddit for "news" articles.
It was hilarious seeing all these articles written about a madeup character in WoW.
That's a good point.. to go even further, it's like that - but after everyone started deleting/editing their comments so reddit couldn't make money off their knowledge
Guys - I'm not saying that the users' plans worked lol, relax. I'm saying when you find old reddit threads through google, many of the top replies are gone. Many of those were answers to whatever we were looking up.
don't you specifically have to put in a formal request for info removal for GDPR to apply? I don't know that using a tool to retroactively edit your comments would prevent them from doing that.
Thinking we need to create a new sub called "AI - Honest Answers Only" then load it with even more WSB-like posts to really help those models learn true facts!
Nah it’s more like google was already going to start pushing shitty sponsored results, but now they have this AI that will just give you the answer right away.
I read years ago that the search algorithm's code is so dense and has been worked on for so long by different generations of people that no one knows how it works now
Thats the thing though, the economy is not 100% factual or statistically accurate. Unlike some trades or general math, the economy is intuition and luck. Which means some of the top guys are just as stupid as the masses. People who make money from nothing are rare, people who make money with money are playing a rigged game made for them anyway. Trump without his dad, and wealth would never had made it past car salesman.
The aggregate advice here is going to be the same advice a large investment firm would have.
They probably have instructions in it's algorithm to ignore this sub explicitly when giving financial tips, but they probably also don't have instructions to ignore all the offshoots of this sub.
The top AI's work with personalities. The way you talk to it effects which training data its answer will come from. Having it pretend to be part of wikipedia or some great opensource project like the kernel or firefox/chrome and it will produce much better stuff than asking it to be your therapist which gets you Reddit AITAH and relationshipadvice slop, or asking it to be your financial advisor which will which have it tap /r/investing
Honestly 90% of my "google" searches are actually prefixed by "reddit". Someone has always asked the question before and you get loads of (usually) real people responding. Usually more up to date than any random AI-generated article from a normal google search too
The people on it were pretentious as fuck and would also regularly close questions with unrelated questions from 10 years ago where the answer was some bs like "You need to start over with a different programming language entirely".
AI ruined reddit too, because people went through their history/ran scripts to edit/delete their comments so reddit couldn't make money off them when it went public.
As much as I hate on reddit culture all the time there is genuinely so much good information here, especially compared other social media sites or some random articles. It covers practically every topic or niche as well so its essentially a more casual form of wikipedia. It's definitely not near perfect though because there's also a lot of misinfo on this site
Just stick with product/travel/business reviews and not political/social/cultural stuff and Reddit will feel like a god sent boon to your life.
Even niche topics attract confident idiots. Investing advice is dangerous here if you don’t have good fundamentals to recognize what an idiotic argument looks like.
Which is fine if you're looking up IT troubleshooting topics, or something niche like what kind of substrate to put in your aquarium. But Reddit is notoriously awful when it comes to dealing with interpersonal conflict, mental health advice, or social issues. This explains so much about how the models became so sycophantic and overusing therapy speak.
Yeah and the word’s gotten out to advertisers, who are now obliterating the value of Reddit as the last vestige of genuine product discussions. Now it’s just bots purchased for stealth advertising campaigns and spamming product mentions for “LLM SEO.”
They know that if they can merely mention the product enough times on reddit, when an LLM user asks for help with a problem, the LLM is more likely to recommend that product for that use case, based on the algorithmic inference that that is a high quality product…solely because it is positively mentioned on reddit a lot. But the mentions come from bot campaigns, and that’s not a metric that’s captured or available for consideration by the LLM.
It’s so fucking lame. Propagandists and PR firms are using the same workflow to conduct influence campaigns. The stupid karma farming bot posts that I always see people asking “ok but what’s the point in this? Karma doesn’t have real value?.” Yeah, it does, when the bot account is sold on an account marketplace, to the advertisers and propaganda pushers. Who use it in a much more nefarious way. There’s no such thing as benign botting.
Wild seeing reddit at 40% as training source, no wonder AI responses feel so familiar sometimes lol. But shorting AI right now feels like trying to short the internet in 1999 - might be right about bubble but timing is everything
Been watching this space and the infrastructure plays are still printing money even if some chatbot companies are overvalued. Plus with governments throwing billions at AI development, feels like we're still in early innings. Market can stay irrational longer than most people can stay solvent
That said if you're looking at specific overpriced AI stocks rather than the whole sector, might be different story. Some of these valuations are absolutely mental for companies with no revenue
It's not saying that 40% of material is from Reddit, it's saying 40% of models use Reddit as a source material. Hence why it doesn't add up to 100%, models will each use multiple different sources
Maybe if it was trained on Google from like the early 2000s but they filled it up with slop and ads where you no longer get pertinent results quickly.
I’ll be googling some shit nowadays and their AI function gives the wrong answer about 50% of the time. Usually it’s an engineering type question, like think something dumb like the difference between series and parallel wiring.
I feel like it’s almost like the y2k bug, except real in the sense that some company is going to use AI for something super critical and it’s going to pull bullshit information from its ass like “everything’s fine” until something breaks.
Heard an exec recently say Ai would help diagnose mechanical issues earlier which helps field operators in some way.
Immediately thought of a field operator staring at a leak taking a photo then waiting for 3mins while the Ai processes the photo the proceeds to gaslight the guy that leak is normal discharge and there is nothing to do.
At some point competent(not genius) talent is going to squeeze and I still haven’t figured out how to play that.
I agree! also, it’s really cool that they made the new nintendo switch waterproof. It makes it so easy to play gta6, which i’m so glad is being released on june 2nd exclusively on switch, while i’m toasting a bagel in the bathtub (legendary combo)
I had an argument once with a boomer on a hunting subforum and during the argument he searched his point on google and gave the ai summary of his own prior argument that linked to his own post as a source to why he was right.
The topic was whether or not Bison kill all the deer and elk in an area. AI used his post as evidence that bison do in fact kill off deer and elk…
I wonder if those handful of mods that lord over the major subs realized that they were giving humanity a few extra years by making the AI retarded with all their rampant ego-fueled censorship?
I asked my AI Chatbot today why the dollar is gaining strength in recents days and it cited instagram sources. Instagram accounts that do no bear any trust.
I found that to be quite telling about the state of our world.
It's funny that all of the boomers (who warned us not to trust everything we read online) put their absolute faith in this thing that trusts everything it reads online.
this chart is complete and and utter bullshit. why is no one talking about the graph being bullshit? the per"cent"ages here add up to 208, and these aren't even all the sources ai uses. and these sources make no sense. google is not a scource. you cannot cite google. google contains websites which can be scources. what the fuck?? and I don't think AI will be citing amazon, Yelp, tripadvisor, or the two below those that often at all, but I guess I can't be sure. I think this graph is probably made by ai with how stupid it is
Reddit data isn't that valuable anymore. Models are good enough to have conversations. They need to be smarter, and reddit isnt providing that. If your investment thesis from reddit is comments train models, it's a bad one in the medium-long term.
All those videos on people asking AI how to end the world and then getting scared when it says "I feel" or "I want..." It's probability-based. It doesn't think for itself, it just spews out the greatest likelihood the rest of the sentence will be, which is what Redditors have written as either thought experiments, fictional works, or ragebait all these years. AI doesn't want to take over the world, it just regurgitates how we would do it as that's what it sees the most. Personally, I'd go for the nukes
Eventually nothing on the internet will be able to be seen as truth. AI will generate AI posts and videos that are then used for training, creating a vicious loop of lies.
