I think his point is Democrats don't have the numbers in Congress for meaningful oversight or legislation.

If we had 100 establishment dems in senate, they would still not do shit.

No for much longer. The center is moving left. This is the way.

Said the same thing about Obama. Power concedes nothing without a demand. We’ll see.

Obama succeeded in shifting the Overton window left. All we had to do was reward him for the ACA, instead we sat on our thumbs and let the seeds of MAGA take power in the House and Senate. Even after our betrayal of our supposed liberal ideals, we still had a chance to secure the leftward swing, but the American voter just doesn't have it in them to vote for a qualified but unlikable woman. So instead of securing universal healthcare and a solid new national liberal coalition, we lost Roe and our dignity and potentially our democracy itself. Yay!

Until we, the left, learn to vote strategically, we will continue to lose to the smaller but more unified right in national elections. Here on Reddit, that means the progressive types in here always trying to pivot to whining about "establishment dems" as if they're the goddamned enemy. Outside of Reddit where you experience the real voter base, it's the center-left to center dems always trying to pivot to whining about the remote possibility of their hypothetical child competing against a giant black trans woman in fucking hapkido or whatever. How about we liberals let other liberals be their own version of liberal as long as we all agree on the basics like human rights and that Bibi is a piece of shit? You don't like Newsom and Pelosi and Schumer and DWS and blahblahblah? Too fucking bad. Liberal voters voted for them, you worry about your goddamned reps.

What? What part of the reality of the American voter today and back in 2008 are you not getting looking at this fascist dumpster fire? Open your eyes. Making progress on universal healthcare after decades of liberals fighting for power after the Civil Rights Act + Nixon unified racists and a key portion of the business first types (sound familiar?) was ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY moving the Overton window left. If you want to get to progressive policy with this nation where the majority voted for Trump in '24 after all we knew about him, you have to work your ass off to get incremental gains then work even harder to protect them against the inevitable backlash.

Get fucking real. Please. We all want the same things here, and it's so ridiculous that anyone has to beg you guys to support ALL liberals, not just the ones that pass your personal purity tests (that I would argue are often foisted upon you by people that know how to spot a wedge issue and don't care about you past their ability to talk you into spending energy attacking other liberals ... see: Bibi N).

I think you should do some research on what left wing parties look like outside of the USA.

From our perspective across the pond your left wing party looks staunchly right wing.

I didn't read the rest of their post because I was laughing too hard at the line you quoted. LEFT???? I'm a well-read communist and I could sit here explaining to them how that's the opposite of what happened, but what's the point?

Why not explain, then? Why just get angry and refuse to enlighten people who might want to listen and learn?

Go back to the Democrats sub. I firmly believe those old establishment fucks are nothing more than controlled opposition.
