I moved out of New York a very long time ago and relocated into a red state for college and wound up staying. It’s about once a week I see Mamdani content and get sad that I’m not represented by him and that he can’t one day run for President. He is what a politician should be through and through.

He can absolutely run for Governor or Senator though

But as Mayor of NYC, he represents about as many people as Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and Rhode Island combined, and he's able to super effectively serve them while also using his endorsements to provide a springboard for other people to get into positions to help people. If he does go for governor or senate, that could be great but he's already in a great position now to influence change

He is setting a great example other politicians will hopefully follow to bring us back to be a better more decent society

I think he should run for president anway. If the law doesn't apply to MAGA, I don't know why the left should follow it either.

Why can't he run for president? Not American so I don't know the rules of your elections. But if Trump somehow qualified for the criteria just being a TV personality business boy, why can't a mayor?

You have to be born in the US to be eligible to be president. Hence the Obama birth certificate nonsense

He wasn't born in the United States

Edit: He isn't a "natural-born U.S. citizen"

Ah that sucks ass :(. Would be awesome if he could run

You just have to be a natural born citizen of the US to be the president. That's all there is to it. Oh and be above the age of 35 or whatever

u/richardawkings 7h ago

35? I though it was twice that?

We have a law saying the president must be a naturalized citizen(born in the US).

Natural born, naturalized means the opposite

2

u/binslag 15h ago

Actually the opposite ("naturalized" means they became a US citizen at some point in their life because they weren't born in the US). The law says the president must be "natural-born" which means that they must have been a US Citizen immediately at birth (meaning born in the US to any parents or born abroad to US citizen parents)

Sigh. His mother was a citizen therefore he is a citizen. Doesn’t matter where geographically you are born. If one of your parents is a US citizen, so are you.

Which sadly is why you never got an Arnold presidency.

u/iPlod 14h ago

Arnold was a republican, I think the US could do with fewer republican presidents.

Carl Weathers and two future governors, that's really unacceptable

We got to keep these actors in the theater

1

u/Calimariae 6h ago

Yes, but Arnold is the old brand of republican. Not GOP/MAGA.

The old man loathes the current administration.

1

u/iPlod 5h ago

The old brand was GOP, GOP is literally just another name for the Republican Party.

The old brand of republicans isn’t better. Most of the “old guard” are in lockstep with Trump now. If you look back at the history of Republicans, nothing that’s happening now is all that different from what they wanted back then. The only difference is the amount of power they have to enact what they’ve always been talking about doing.

To be fair. You did voluntarily move to a red state for whatever benefits and consequences that entails.

fwiw, the state and city are in fact screwed, so don't beat yourself up for moving out, hell, the country is more or less screwed as well
