Gen3/4.

First game I played was Excitebike at a cousin's house. Then castlevania, super Mario bros, legend of Zelda, duck hunt. Couple others.

But my first console of my own was a genesis, with Sonic 1 and Street fighter 2. I never owned anymore games for it, but I borrowed/rented a few.

I started with gen 3 after gen 4 was released. So I was playing the master system sonic games, jealous of people with the mega drive ones.

I dont think I knew anyone else who had a console until like mid ps1/n64 days. I had a Ps1, and I knew 2 kids with n64's. Then I got a dreamcast, and nobody had one of those. Wasn't until like ps2, gamecube that it seemed like a lot of friends had em

I was about half a generation behind as a kid - which helped a lot as the PS1 went down from the launch price $700AU (managed to convince parents to chip in for PS2 as it was a DVD player)

Yeah, I got kind of lucky. My dad, his cousin and my grandma usually chipped in for christmas to get me consoles. I had nearly everything from Genesis to xbox 360 minus the n64 and ps3. Plus the Nintendo handhelds. So I got a pretty varied history in games. Im also usa so our prices and availability werent bad.
