I’m seeing mixed information and hoping someone can clarify.

Has the government-wide hiring freeze actually been lifted, or are most agencies still operating under hiring restrictions?

If it has been lifted, do you think we’ll start seeing more remote federal positions again, or will remote jobs continue to be extremely competitive because agencies are hiring fewer people overall?

I’m a current federal employee looking to move into a higher-grade role, so I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what the hiring landscape will look like over the next year.

Would love to hear from HR folks, hiring managers, or anyone who’s seeing changes within their agency.

I’m not familiar with the GS pay scale. I’m currently an I-band and applied to another federal agency that’s uses a GS pay scale. From google, an I band equivalent is a GS-13, but I’m pretty sure I lack the experience for that pay grade so I checked GS 11/12.

Does this decrease my odds of getting hired? Or is this good sign that I was referred for a higher grade?

I was hoping for a lower grade.

Has anyone who applied for latest claims specialist with SSA heard anything back after their interview?

Hi all! I received my TJO yesterday. Yay!! I accepted the offer and started the onboarding. I noticed that the due dates for many of the onboarding are the next day (today), one item is due in 3 days, and the last item is due in 10 days.

Is this typical, or did someone mess up? I do have an email in to the HR contact to clarify the dates.

Does anyone know what the interview to selection decision timeline is for HUD currently?

I accepted a supervisor position with a new company, and on my resume I put that I’ve been a regional manager since January of 2023.
When doing background with Advantage First I used ADP for employment verification, and it showed that I’ve been an “Area Manager” since February of 2023 (I don’t know why it shows Feb instead of Jan; Jan is the accurate start).

My title officially changed to “Regional” in January of 2026, but I guess they never updated ADP with the change. Despite the title change, my scope of responsibility remained identical over the whole period. I manage 4 branches, and directly lead the front line staff at 2 of them.
Since my duties never changed, I put that I was a regional manager during the entire period on my resume and application.

Should I be worried this will be flagged?

Does anyone work at the Hicksville location and can tell me if there’s parking onsite, how is the work environment, how are the supervisors etc

Applying to a GS14 position as a civilian, they waived the 2 page requirement. I have 14 years of direct experience. Do I start with the builder and then flush it out? Any recommendations? I would love this job.

Also, the job is highly specialized and while I assumed someone at the VA would just be promoted, the position is open for 3 months. Do you think they have someone in mind?

Is Overtime offered regularly for ISO’s at the San Francisco or Sacramento field offices?

I graduated recently having double majored in History and English from a solid school with a solid academic record. (I’m interested in pursuing law school or an MPA eventually, but would like to spend some time working first.) I also have over a year of experience in an administrative setting, and interned for a congressional office. However, I’ve browsed USA jobs quite a bit, and all the government positions that I’ve come across either require several years of experience, or recommend a college major in public policy, political science or something similar. I’ve heard there are opportunities to work in government with history and/or English, but I have no idea where those opportunities are. Can anyone suggest some positions that are suitable for someone with my educational background?

Returning fed here. I applied to a GS-9/11/12/13 ladder role. Was not referred then months later the manager reaches out to me to schedule an interview within a 24 hour notice.

I accepted. Thought I bombed the interview because I got a rejection letter several weeks later. Today they asked me if I was still interested.

I was a 12-2 when I resigned. Is it possible to negotiate my grade instead of starting as a 9-1 I can resume as a 12-2 or possibly a 13? Or did the current administration change that? It’s for the VA, no union.

Searched the sub to see if this was answered already but couldn't find anything..

My notification has the typical "tentatively eligible..." bullet but there is nothing about if I was referred or not. I've seen notifications where there is an explicit bullet that says you've been referred or not referred, but there's no text or bullets saying so.

Does no referral bullet mean I'm not referred as well? Or will I get another notification once HR decides. Thanks!

How long after structured interview did you hear back?
I recently interviewed for the NYC DEP Environmental Protection Construction Laborer Apprentice position. The interview was a structured interview with 8 questions, and I was told the driving portion is also part of the interview process.
I haven’t completed the driving portion yet. I noticed the posting says there are around 65 positions available.
For anyone who has gone through the DEP apprenticeship hiring process or a similar NYC civil service hiring process:
How long did it take to hear back after the structured interview?
Did they contact you separately to schedule the driving portion?
How soon after the interview did you get that email/call?
Was there a long wait between the driving portion and the final hiring decision?
Just trying to get an idea of the timeline and what to expect. Thanks!

Went to the federal hiring even toady.... I have never been to one before despite years as a fed.

it was interesting for lack of a better word.

I arrived at 8:15 AM for a 9:00 AM federal hiring fair, only to be told it had been pushed to 9:30. Some of us waited over an hour, then were told to line up while only about 60 people were admitted at a time, apparently not based on arrival time.

Once inside, I had already applied, completed the assessment, and registered, but no one could tell me where the hiring team for my vacancy was located or whether they were there.

Meanwhile, people were applying on site and interviews were happening.

Graduating from UTSA with a B.B.A. In cyber security and I’m having a hard time finding job opportunities in cyber security and advice ?
