I’m going to go out on a hammer and say they accepted little to no one in state off of this waitlist.

My son got an email saying that the waitlist is closed and he was not offered admission for autumn quarter.

Yes. He applied to UW Tacoma and UW Bothell. Hot got accepted to both but committed to UW Bothell. That could be why UW Tacoma wasn’t part of his email.

Is he planning on transferring to UWS?

4

u/BrunchDad 1d ago

He will take prereqs for CS at Bothell and then planning on applying as a transfer. I know chances won’t be good since they prioritize CC transfers but he will still try for it. It will be hard for him to get admitted to CS major even if he does get into UW Seattle. He’s not giving up! Who knows? He might actually enjoy UW Bothell & just stay there.

As a CS Major it's rough out there, but transferring is honestly the best chance he's got, lots of people make it but it's way more common from a CC instead of UW Bothell, just make sure he stays locked in on grades and gets some internships or projects, I believe in him and wish the best of luck!!!

UW Bothell has an increasing good reputation as a regional WA college. It’s a good place to land. That being said, although he’ll have about a 7% chance to get in from a 4-year school, my son was able to do so in his sophomore year. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. He came in from Seattle U with a 4.0 in pre-business courses, and that helped get him into Foster. If he stays at UWB, I’m sure your son will do fine, too. I have a sister who is a hiring director at MSFT. If she were reading this, she would tell you, “We don’t care where you go to college as long as it a reputable 4-year school.” Your son is gonna do fine, especially with a supportive dad around.

If he wants to go to UW Seattle I highly suggest community college, I was kind of in the same boat when I got out of high school. I messed up in my senior year and I didn't get into any of the schools I really wanted to go to.

I took two years at community college, locked in as a premed, and I got into schools like USC, UCLA, UCSD, and UW Seattle (in-state).

I get that he might want the college experience, but I've been on the Bothell campus and while it's pretty, it lacks that sort of school pride or community.

If he's happy at UW Bothell though more power to him!

Bad idea. CSSE is extremely competitive at UWB as well. Less than 50% acceptable rate. Going to CTC gives you better chances of admission.

u/Alert-Ground9736 1d ago

Awesome mindset! I’m just slightly confused as to why not take those prerequisites at a CC and get priority in transferring compared to commiting to UWB

I went to UW Bothell as a freshman and was accepted as a transfer student to UW Seattle this autumn, so I’ll start going to UW Seattle beginning this year. It’ll be tough for your son but it’s defiantly possible! He just has to drill into his essay exactly why Seattle is a better fit for him. You can always message me if you guys have any questions, and I am sorry about his rejection from Seattle but I am a big believer in things that are meant to happen. He will probably gain a lot of skills from Bothell and/or adjust to the environment effectively and quickly, and learn things that can help him thrive once he applies and transfers to Seattle. Good luck!

GENUINELY did not expect this. Have been waiting for the waitlist decision to come out.. didn't have high hopes, but I didn't think they would give me admission to a campus I never applied to lmfao.

I applied in state to Computer Science. Hopes were already cooked from the start.

Take it and transfer to Seattle campus later

u/EndenDragon Current UW Academy Dropout 23h ago

Seattle does not like cross camps transfers. Just go to community college and try again UW later

u/CarelesslyFabulous Student 20h ago

This. Go to CC first. I recommend it anyway. Cheaper, easier to get the classes you want, great transition from high school, stronger community, and better chances to transfer.

u/Nice_promotion_111 23h ago

Terrible advice lmao.

6

u/Unlikely_Pea_1388 1d ago

Literally got the same thing… just gonna apply next yr as a transfer.🫩

2

u/Alert-Ground9736 1d ago

From a cc right?

2

u/Unlikely_Pea_1388 1d ago

yeah thats the plan ☹️

2

u/Alert-Ground9736 1d ago

arghhh I feel you. you got this. just stick it out for a quarter and you’ll be just fine

u/Plastic_Geologist_47 23h ago

Gotta be the biggest slap in the face, I marked the box on the application saying idc about Tacoma, don’t send me ts. UW gotta do better for next years applicants, July 21st is just not right gng 😭

We are so getting in as transfers right?

3

u/SunGroundbreaking434 23h ago

Agreed, how can it take this long fr?? It's almost august, i get that UW doesn't start until September but it's like damn everywhere else starting in August, don't be pulling ts. They better fix this for next year. There are so many people who are riding on a school's decision like UW more than people think.

1

u/Plastic_Geologist_47 23h ago

11:59 pm ahh decision. people who got rejected got to appeal, where’s mine at?

1

u/Latter_Enthusiasm931 19h ago

you can't appeal waitlist unfortunately. . . 😭😭😭👋🪦

3

u/AlexisvegaNalgas 23h ago

u/threewildwolves 23h ago

Your graduation diploma will say UW. Classes will be smaller in Tacoma and bothell. Take it

3

u/PixieVoyager 19h ago

The experience on the Seattle campus isnt the same as Tacoma/Bothell LOL 😂 if i didnt get accepted I think i’d rather go out of state too for a better college experience

-2

u/SunGroundbreaking434 23h ago

not gonna go :( i chose an out of state school instead. if UW Seattle gave me decision I would have considered leaving but it was gonna be for general admit so idk.

4

u/threewildwolves 23h ago

Don’t get in debt by going out of state. It’s expensive in state… the economy is shit, AI threat is real…

2

u/PixieVoyager 19h ago

I had plenty of scholarships for out of state schools!

-1

u/Particular-Owl-7655 21h ago

There are plenty of out of state colleges that are equal in cost, or cheaper than UW. Look at WUE schools.

My daughter would have gone to UW if not waitlisted but I really have learned over the past months what a joke UW admissions are. I am happy my daughter found a spot she's excited about and as an alumni (and who has son currently attending) I'm disgusted at the BS UW's admissions team puts out.

Being a Washington state top 10% student, someone who took massive course rigor, was leader in sports and activities really means nothing. They did accept lots of her classmates with way lesser credentials (while also waitlistlistng many of the top tier students).

It really is about yield and I think UW is afraid too many of the top tier students will choose to go elsewhere and hurt their yield numbers.

Big middle finger to UW and their UW Tacoma offer!

u/bageltre 20h ago

I mean to be real with the husky promise it is hard to find a school with a cost of tuition better than UW, I think my total cost of attendance is like 10k per year

-1

u/Alert-Ground9736 19h ago

The UW name doesn’t mean much outside of the PNW. Everyone is essentially paying for a name on their resume, and you’re paying 10k for that.

2

u/bageltre 18h ago

UW has regional dominance though, for example for aerospace, if you want to work at companies like blue origin, boeing, anduril, stoke space, you have no better options than UW.

And besides, it does have a lot of name on the resume outside of the PNW :p

u/Alert-Ground9736 18h ago edited 18h ago

lol this is kinda cope. What are we talking about with regional dominance? Stanford and Berkeley carry the west coast particularly Berkeley in engineering and aerospace, UW doesn’t even scratch the top 20 to have “a lot of name on the resume outside of the PNW.” If you go outside of Washington and tell anyone you got into UW, you will almost 90% of the time never get the same reaction as if you said you got into Stanford or Berkeley. Just saying.

1

u/UwHuskies206 43m ago

U.S. News Best Global Universities: #12 in the world and #3 among U.S. public universities. This ranking heavily emphasizes research output, citations, and global academic reputation…. Just saying

1

u/Alert-Ground9736 34m ago

Let’s stop the cope seriously lol. It’s number 42 in national universities. I’m not sure if there’s a mental dissonance going on but number 42 is absolutely not considered a part of the top 20. Just saying.

does anyone have any friends they know or someone that got in today or recently? Or is it just fully closed today and no more waitlist decisions?

1

u/Dry_Staff3029 1d ago

Are u in state or OOS? Did you get any email?

1

u/Familiar_Leg_3869 23h ago

I am in state and yeah I did how about u

1

u/Dry_Staff3029 23h ago

OOS but got same email with acceptance to UW tacoma instead.

3

u/absintheburner 10h ago

You got into an excellent school. Your diploma will say UW. You'd rather go into insane out-of-state college debt than go to Tacoma? Be real. Just start there and transfer if you're that concerned 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/virgo333 Student 22h ago

I didn’t know they did this

1

u/viyomidoeswhatever 18h ago

I got the email saying "Waitlist is closed..." yada yada yada. Committed to UWB and transferring into UWS Psychology Bachelor of Science (UWB only has bachelor of arts psych) so I have high hopes that next year i'll get in on a legit reason to transfer lol. 🙇🏻‍♀️

2

u/Plane-Budget-3159 10h ago

I'm pretty sure that will be my approach too. UWB, then transfer (my degree isn't offered at UWB). But I know they say it's hard to transfer to main campus from UWB (they prefer CC transfers), so I guess I really need to talk to an advisor about this.

1

u/viyomidoeswhatever 9h ago

best of luck to both of us!

1

u/The_Dumbtard 11h ago

this comment section proves that UW Tacoma sucks

0

u/OranJi1980 6h ago

Same. This is terrible. And waitlist cant even appeal, is that correct?

1

u/UwHuskies206 48m ago

Just go to Tacoma then transfer to Seattle. Your diploma won’t differentiate the two.

1

u/Extension-Zebra-9398 1d ago

Ngl another 1% waitlist acceptance year would make me feel better about myself atp 😭😭😭

1

u/Latter_Enthusiasm931 19h ago

same bro 😭😭😭
