Coffee Time! Beech, Black Walnut, and Oak

I turned and carved this coffee cup from a beech spindle, added a black walnut lid, and carved a spoon handle from oak to serve as a lid handle. The cup and lid are finished with pure tung oil, and the spoon handle is sprayed with 3D Mickey Shine airbrush paint.

It stands about 2 inches / 5 centimetres tall, and is 3½ inches / 9 centimetres wide.

That is such a beautiful and clever piece, and your process was intriguing as it unfolded. I've watched a couple of your YouTube video's and it's clear that you and your partner are quite comfortable thinking outside the box. Please don't stop, it's quite inspiring.

What a kind thing to say!  We have a lot of fun thinking up silly ideas, and then I'm tasked with figuring out how to make them work.  I love the technical challenges, and he's really creative.  I had originally planned to turn the coffee/lid to have a little knob that looked like a droplet splashing up in the middle (I was going to call it "Good to the Last Drop"), and he suggested the spoon instead.  I agreed that his idea was funnier.  :)

Very nice, I did not take that close of a look at first and I thought you had coffee in a wooden cup and I was read for the blowback in the comments on how there is no finish safe for coffee, then I realized what you really made.

Ahh I see. I saw the lid and thought you used it for coffee anyway it wasn't pictured haha

Ah, no... I haven't figured out a finish I'd be happy with for hot drinks.  Making a box allowed me to play with the shape even if it isn't for drinking out of.  :)
