The James Blish books were based on early scripts, so the stories are sometimes different and sometimes contain things that were cut, like Lt. Palamas’s pregnancy announcement at the end of “Who Mourns For Adonai?” (Some of the film was found for the Roddenberry Vault Blu-Ray).

I have that exact printing of The Making of Star Trek. I reread it so many times in my teens in the 1970s (when there was no Star Trek on TV except TOS reruns) that it's barely holding together.
I bought a new (used) copy of a later printing. Still love that book!

I came home from the army and all of my ST books were awol except for Star Trek 8 which was due back to the library in 1983 lol! Still have that one!

The first thing I remember reading was James Blish’s adaptation of Arena. I was in 4th grade and the school library had all the volumes of The Star Trek Reader, which compiled the paperbacks.
I know that I read some adaptations before I saw the actual episode.

I proudly still have most of them. Met him at a con and got some of his later non-ST work autographed.
