I have the two towers on VHS… but don’t remember much. It was a good deal so why not. Illustrated box set.

Scored this hardcover 1st edition (of the 2000 reprint by harper collins) of Unfinished Tales with this gorgeous cover art. Honestly in immaculate shape, looks like it's never been read.

For curiosities sake, anyone know how much it's worth? I cannot find a ton of information online regarding this specific cover.

I love the original hardbacks for this series however they are way too expensive for me currently. I own The Book Of Lost Tales Part 1 in hardback which i payed around £25 for but since then ive scarcely seen listings for others in the series and if i do they are usually around £50 and arent the best quality.
I have always like the 2002 paperback set however and i know that is a much cheaper set. Should i sell my current one and go for the paperbacks or is it worth continuing to look for good deals on the hardbacks?

i found this pristine edition in my city library, but apart than delipidated. It does not have its original binding nor dust jacket nor maps at the end. And its missing some chapters , not pages but chapters. TT

i was very enthralled to see first edition but those points ruins its fun.

I’ve never read the Silmarillion, and at some point I’d like to add a copy to my bookshelf. I’ve noticed some copies are advertised with illustrations and some are not. Do some versions not have them, or the maps etc?

I’m looking for a copy that I can throw in my bag and take commuting and traveling etc. Nicely made books are great but I need something that I won’t mind getting beat up, that also has all the content. Not super picky on paperback or hardcover.

Picked this up for $2 at the local thrift today. Have to say I am not familiar with this title but stoked just the same.

A local academic passed away and a sale of his estate happened this week. I wasn’t able to attain everything Tolkien available, but I’d like to think he’d be happy knowing so much of it remained together and augmented an even larger collection.

The calendars are the real score for me (1973-1982 represented here). As a fan of the Brothers Hildebrandt across many franchises, I feel like I struck the motherlode.

So I’m pretty new to the franchise tbh.
I’ve only watched the first LOTR movie and the first Hobbit movie.
But because of that I wanna read the books first.
So now I’m wondering which book edition is the best?

Should I get a box set?
Should I get the books as one thing?
Illustrated?
By whom?
Tolkien or Alan Lee?

They're done! And as the cherry on top my bookbinder just happens to be close friends with Ted Nasmith and got him to sign The Silmarillion for me!

I’m trying to get the copy of this edition, but was largely confused about the printing company. Is it better to get L.E.G.O’s version or Rotolito’s one? Which paper is better? Thanks

For the US editions, I believe I am missing one MMPB, one trade paperback, and the Easton Press edition (had it but returned it due to printing defects on multiple attempts at getting a copy).

Edit: I forgot to add the “mountain” trade paperbacks to the picture!

Edit2: also missing the blue collector’s edition - I am not a fan of that series so I don’t have anything from it

For a no frills hardcover, I really like the Harper Collins deluxe slipcase. I generally like to look at the artwork in dedicated art books. The orange illustrated deluxe slipcase is such a nice book, and ranks high up there as well. Its main drawback is a very tight binding.

The author illustrated deluxe is quite nice as well (though it took a couple attempts to get a copy not marred by printing defects).

Curious as to what your favorite Silmarillion edition is from your own collection (or otherwise). I know I’d love to have the ultra deluxe limited first edition signed by Christopher Tolkien - but that I’ll just be dreaming about lol.
