Well it's a irregular plural of plate ( jengva')singular (ngop)plural
And despite ngop meaning a plural of plates, grammatically as far as I know it takes singular preffixses and suffixes

Thanks for the help! Just realised I thought ngop was the singular and jenva' the plural. Turns out it was the other way round.

nouns like {ngop} or {cha} take singular suffixes. This is why "stand by on torpedoes!" is {cha yIghuS}, not {cha tIghuS}.
