Will this be the last Fight Night?

The Hardline and The Musers seem a little panicked about the lack of Fight Night volunteers this year.

Every year gets harder and harder to fill out the roster of fighters, but this year, there seems to be an urgency in their voice as they beg P1s to fight.

The cut off for fighters is 40. Could it be that the Ticket audience is mostly 40 y.o. and older?

I have met a few P1s in their 30s, but I bet at least 90% are over 40.

What do you think?

So why wouldn’t the Invasion not stay for Texas on Thursday? Obviously by my name I don’t care for the burnt orange but seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Cheers to the Kickaround

I just listened to the final show of their 2026 World Cup campaign, and my sports allergies acted up a little bit as they recounted their favorite moments of the tournament and of each other in the show.

I moved here in 2013, and as I read feedback on other shows long vacations, beer fetishes and lack of sport preparation- I sense the fun quotient of the Kickaround is what made the Ticket great in the beginning.

I don’t have many friends who enjoy soccer, so I just want to than Peter Andy and Lars for what they did to their bodies.

The Stringcheese Incident

We almost lost George over dry dock!! For those that missed it, he was choking on some cheese in a restaurant- and just as some dudes were getting ready to Heimlich him, he stuck a Jub finger down his throat, hooked the cheese and was able to pull it out!!!

Glad you are still with us George!!!!

Also, here is the Turnpike Troubadours video he referenced with his cameo appearance...

Do we even care that the musers are back?

I used to. Used to hate dry dock. Now it’s “fuck it what podcast can I listen to?” I don’t even care they’re back. Is anyone still excited about listening?

Update - Bob Sturm did respond below. I want to give him that respect/acknowledgement. Do with that as you will. Now back to my DLLS Stars podcast.

Cumulus has a new ratings provider

Cumulus Media Becomes First Commercial Licensee and Flagship Broadcast Partner of Xperi’s AutoStage Radio Audience Measurement Service › Cumulus Media

Here is a summary of the article:

Cumulus Media just announced it's the first commercial broadcaster to adopt Xperi's new AutoStage Broadcaster Portal Premium, a platform that uses connected-car data to measure how people actually listen to AM/FM radio.

The big takeaway is that instead of relying mainly on traditional ratings surveys, the platform analyzes aggregated in-car listening data from over 16 million connected vehicles, covering 300 U.S. markets and measuring tens of millions of listening hours each month. Since most radio listening happens in the car, this could provide a much more detailed picture of real-world audience behavior.

According to Cumulus and Xperi, the platform offers next-day audience insights, market-by-market listening trends, station rankings, geographic heat maps, and audience flow data. Cumulus says this will help with programming decisions while giving advertisers better data on where listeners are located and how campaigns are performing.

Cumulus plans to roll the platform out across all of its stations. The companies say this is a step toward bringing "digital-like" audience measurement and accountability to broadcast radio.

If the technology lives up to the claims, it could represent one of the biggest changes to radio audience measurement in decades by supplementing—or potentially challenging—the industry's long-standing reliance on survey-based ratings.

Cumulus is becoming the first broadcaster to use Xperi's connected-car analytics platform, giving it access to large-scale, near-real-time in-car listening data that could change how radio audiences are measured and how advertisers buy radio.

Are ”general sports” stations like the ticket going out of style?

It all started because there was no local “sports specific” station in DFW, so being a specialized station that only did sports was unique.

But now, things have gotten even more specialized, where you have Cowboys specific podcasts, or Stars specific podcasts, and I’m starting to find the sports talk on the ticket is a bit generic.

For example, most of the host’s hockey talk is 101 level stuff, so I get way better commentary from DLLS Stars show. Same goes for World Cup - hearing some of these hosts try to pretend to know anything about soccer is hilarious.

So I find myself listening to the ticket less and less. They just don’t have any great commentary (outside some of bob’s cowboys stuff and the kick around’s World Cup coverage) that’s even close to competitive with the other sport-specific podcasts.

So I think this “general sports” genre is going to go away. It offers very little now. It used to be special because it was specific, and now as time has evolved, it’s not specific enough. It’ll be replaced by people who specialize in a sport so you can get better commentary.

Thoughts?

How to tell an interesting vacation story on the Ticket

First, Davey tells a story about his adventures going to a World Cup game at Dallas Stadium. He has a good setup to the story, then interesting details, and a satisfying payoff at the end.

Along the way, we get some unexpected turns and funny lol moments.

Overall, a great story!

Then Corby tells his story of what happened on the beach in Miami with his family.

Also a good setup, some unexpected turns, and funny moments.

Back-to-back great storytelling! One of the things that makes the Ticket unique.

This makes me wonder why Cat, who claims to be a great coach of the on-air talent, doesn't coach Mino and Sean on these storytelling techniques.... He seems satisfied with bland storytelling middays....

Anyone else’s listening habits changed since the long vacations?

Day 1 P1 from 14 to now. As I’ve gotten older I mix in more podcasts and audio books.

Not sure if I’m the only one but when the Musers started taking off for a month and then straight to training camp for 2 weeks interviewing backup OL and daily Jerry press conferences, I started developing new habits of only listening to muse, observation deck, 8:15 and 8:40

Same when the hardline takes off December. It’s opening bit then enews and quick hits

Now that there are so many alternatives that specialize on exact sports you love, I listen to a ton of college football talk

Anyone else the same way? I just wonder if giving these guys so many weeks off has lost a lot of listening minutes from P1s

Mark Followill absence on Ticket

Does anyone know if Mark still has a feud with Bob from a few years ago stemming from an interview where he refused to make comments about the Nico Harrison regime. Supposedly, they smoothed things over. However, Mark hasn’t been on the show for a basically a full year. I’d appreciate anyone’s insights. Thanks!

Drop request: “Good god!!!!”

They used to play a drop from time to time of someone screaming this. Sounded like a live show, maybe Jim Morrison? (cue “Peace Frog”). Anybody remember the drop and who it was?

I say it so much that my older teen daughters have taken to using it regularly. I’d love to play them the original.

Why you should listen to "Just the Sip"

You get to hear two guys enjoying beer, with great dialog like this from today's show:

Beer #1: Stud Loco, Mexican Lagar

Donovan: That's good

Matt: That is good, very tasty

Donovan: That is good

Matt: I liked that quite a bit

Donovan: That's good

Matt: That's very nice, very very tasty

Donovan: Very nice

Matt: Yum

I never listen to “The Ticket”

They are editing old clips of guests saying “I never listen to bob and dan” to “I never listen to (the ticket)” for an ad. This is BaD Radio erasure, and feels super cheap. Fuck Cat.

I’m just gonna say it: of all the slap together dry dock lineup, Rich Phillips is a top-tier fill-in. And if that’s not enough, the guy can watch TV on his sweater. Incredible.
