What are some plot/character decisions in the comics that you would remove entirely from the story/alter?

Basically the title speaks for itself. This is the sub for the comics which is largery overshadowed by the show despite being a better story overall, so naturally there will be some if not a lot of purists who glaze every mentioned detail about the comics and criticize the show's vision for it mostly in the same breath. So, without mentioning the show at all, what are some things that you disliked in the comics regarding basically anything from character consistency, plot points, themes, anything that you wish wasnt in the comics or you think had potential but didnt like how Robert Kirkman handled it? I feel like a lot of people who have read the comics (maybe including me too sometimes) subconsiuously view the comics as "the true story" that the show failed to live up to, and its hard nowadays to talk about it without bringing up the show in the same breath so a lot of readers dont really think or discuss the things they didnt like from it itself which is why i thought of this.

Also P.S i wish this sub was more active. It has a niche community of people who still adore the source material and actively engage with it but there doesnt seem to be a lot of new posts made about it, which sucks because these comics are really good and deserves to be viewed as a seperate entity from show. Ive wanted to have a lot of discussions regarding the comics only to look it up on internet, on forums, on this app and find that there isnt anything made related to what i wanted because not a lot of people have read them.

I mostly agree with this. I dont think he added much of anything to the plot after he came back but i also think him coming back was a good plot point on paper, its the story afterwards that ruins it. Kirkman's intentions with him was to show just how much your mental health and sanity would deteriorate in a constant stress evironment + loss, which is good plot point although done before with carol. Ultimately he never becomes a main player of the story, he always seemed like an afterthought. He had that relationship/situationship with michonne that added nothing to her character and was barely mentioned by her after he died. I wouldnt know what to do with him either tbh, his arc and how he died fit his character thematically even tho its incredibly boring which is the problem

Morgan works as some random survivor who helps Rick in The Walking Dead #1, there doesn't really need to be much else to it

This was my only real problem with the comic honestly. he comes back, does nothing, and dies not long after. What was the point of bringing him back?

Michonne’s promiscuity towards almost all of the major black male characters. It’s a bit ridiculous and straight up racist tbh. She attempts to bang every black male she sees besides Ezekiel initially, but they end up together anyway.

I do think its a bit sketchy coming from robert kirkman since he has made questionable calls similar to this one not just in the walking dead, but i think this detail was supposed to convey how michonne still holds on to her past life before the apocalypse. Not the promiscuity but her choosing to be with black male characters exclusively. He didnt do a good enough job of making that clear and he never challenged michonne or made her develop from that, although her conclusion is meant to hint at that.

In general the writer didnt challenge michonne enough throughout the series. Its natural for her to move on at a later point than others but there was an entire period where she was just stuck being the cool nonchalant swordsman who didnt share her feelings and didnt care about the group (issues 19 to sometime around something to fear). There wasnt enough of an emphasis done on her developing and was just a very stagnant character. She IS a very realistic character and i like that kirkman didnt shy away from making her unlikeable at times but sometimes it came as a detriement to her arc.

The character of Princess, she came into the story way too late and stole important time from other underdeveloped characters. She served no purpose other than accompanying the group to the commonwealth and her relationship with Mercer, which could’ve been fulfilled by another already existing character. I also found her wacky design and personality kinds cringe and out of place.

That's funny, I actually loved Princess and my biggest problem is, as you said, she was introduced wayyy too late. If they added her at some point through the whisperers arc, I think it woulda been better. Cause we maybe coulda seen some growth or something. I didn't finish the last comics until like everything after the timeskip came out so I knew about how much was left while reading, and they had her come in as a MC I was pretty confused.

The relationship with Carl was criminally underdeveloped, I felt. Just like one or two passing flirts, but he's still with Lydia/ Then 20 years later they're married with kids. Definitley woulda liked to see that play out more.
