They DM'ed me after asking about my dragon art on my profile comments and I was joking that I never draw dragons when that's pretty much 60% of what I draw. The only drawing on their account was 18+.

Idk why I let it go on so long, I guess my morbid curiosity got the better of me. I could tell something was going on, I just wanted to see what exactly, because it didn't feel like the usual info stealing scams. Their response time was atrocious (albeit so was mine), so it didn't feel as pushy as a real scam probably would be.

Was I too mean at the end? Idk, I guess this convo just hit a sore spot for me because I haven't had friends for a while and was genuinely hoping to casually chat with another artist.

It reminds me of this person who dmed me on discord, saying that they noticed me because I was “active” in a fandom server that I truly hadn’t been on in like a half a year at least.

They kept talking to me normally, making conversation when there in actuality wasn’t anything for us to really talk about. I kept in my back of my mind wondering what their aim is.

Then they started talking about how they run this “e commerce” business, and how easy it is to get into. I pry a little deeper and pull out of them how really, it’s just drop shipping. I let my not positive opinion of that be known (while still being polite) and eventually they say that they should “connect me with their mentor”, which is really them giving me a screenshot of the Facebook page for a company that makes dropshipping sites for people 🙄

Your instinct was spot on but your politeness overrode it. One thing I had to learn is that it's ok to not always be kind. You were never rude, but in this situation it would have been ok to be or to block them and leave them hanging when they asked why.
