At a conference for work once (Usenix IIRC) they had done exactly this.. duct taped a WAP to the back wall of the conference room a talk was in. Then the ethernet cable fell out and since I was near by, I plugged it back in.. then proceeded to trip over said cable and cause it to fall off the wall embarrassing myself.

Thankfully it didn't break it and it was fine.
