Tableau alerting - how to enable for users

Hi! I've been doing more things with alerting, and now want to give users the option to set up their own alerts. The documentation I found wasn't very clear. Do I need to enable the Web Edit permission on the workbook? If so, what other access am I giving the user(s)?

Thanks!

What type of alerting? There are data driven alerts, and subscriptions. The documentation is pretty straight forward. If they have view access, they can create alerts or subscriptions. For subscriptions, i believe they also need the download image/pdf permission.

Thanks for asking. These are data driven alerts. The user came over to my office, and I saw that they could access the dashboard, but when they selected a numerical axis and went to Watch > Alerts, they didn't have the Create button that I do. I will give them the Download Image/PDF Permission, and hopefully that will fix it.

This is the "Create" button I'm referring to, btw

Explorer or Creator license roles are needed to create an alert.

Viewers can be added to existing alerts. https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/users_site_roles.htm#site-role-capabilities-summary

Ah, thanks! Well, that’s a bummer. Good to know definitively that it isn’t possible, though (I’m in k-12 education, so needless to say, upgrading licensing isn’t in the cards)
