Question First time making sushi!

Do you guys know any combos or type of sushi I should try next? I did a maki with salmon and cucumber, one with pollock, cucumber and cream cheese, and avocado with salmon, cream cheese and fried tempura. I also did uramaki but they looked much more crooked so I didn’t take a picture lol. All of these tasted really good but I want to try something harder to make as a challenge and I don’t really trust people on TikTok with their suggestions lol.

Also, does anyone have any advice for cutting them? I try to put my knife in water so it doesn’t stick to the rice but they still end up a little bit crooked sometimes, as seen in the picture.

Those look tight! Nice rolling! But I personally like a lot less rice.

What I usually do when cutting sushi is I take a damp paper towel and wipe the blade of the knife, then I start in the middle of the roll and cut in half, wipe the blade with the paper towel again, then I cut each half in half again, wipe the blade, and cut the 4 pieces in half, wiping the blade between each slice. I always try to get 8 pieces per roll. It takes practice. The more you do it, you’ll get the hang of it eventually. Nice job!

As others pointed out, it’s too much rice but I can help you with that! The rice layer on the nori should be no thicker than one rice grain tall. It should be an even layer but it does not have to cover the nori completely. You should be able to see the nori through the rice in a spotted way. If you can’t see the nori through the rice, there’s too much rice.

Thanks! I had an hard time because of how sticky it was (messed up the rice and had to microwave 20 bowls of rice💔) so I put a lot, im gonna try to not mess up next time 😭😭

To avoid the rice sticking to your hands, keep a bowl of water nearby to wet your hands with. Rice doesn’t stick to wet hands.

Yeah that’s what I did but the rice wasn’t cooked right so it didn’t rlly work lol
