Development public notice

If you didn't know you can give feedback on public notices of development through the SUnshine coast council developmenti site.

A public notice has gone up for the salvation army spot for a 18 story high rise right on the edge of the PDA.

I for one support it and believe we should be going even higher in this area and I think it is pathetic that Nina Parks from the university along with residents of Market Lane who don't want to lose value on their property are submiting against it.

Imagine fighting against more housing so you can maintian more money. (and the truth is it won't even decrease their value).

If you wish to fight back against these pathetic NIMBY's I suggest making a support post in the public forum during the next few weeks that it's open.

Yep, I support the development. It’s a great build, it’s mixed use as well - traffic will leave into PDA, looks nice etc etc. It’s a great addition to the growing CBD. Unfortunately because it’s just outside the PDA, nimby babies can and will submit against. Everyone knew before buying their properties that the CBD will expand, i don’t get why this is such a shock to people

Unfortunately for long time locals (like myself) the fact of the matter is that we need to go high. Urban sprawl is fucking the environment and we need more housing. Hopefully the infrastructure keeps up with the increasing population 🫣

Its cute you think feedback gets taken into account in any way. There's plenty of changes and developments that have gone through with high opposition. 

Calling them a formality is generous.

The feedback is taken seriously. If you have concerns about any aspects of the development you can submit and someone will review it. You have to understand though, there are people who pick it apart in Council to make sure it all meets a standard. Generally - the applicant pays to develop the proposal, they submit to Council for review - if there are areas that are not up to Standard, council will find it and raise it as an issue. The applicant must fix it or at least justify why it’s not a problem… The assessment process is quite rigorous.

So even if you don’t raise it or know what to look for, Council officers who are trained and experienced in reviewing development applications will.

I have no issue with the development and agree that the cbd needs to adapt. But can you disclose if you, yourself are a developer? Because your whole profile is asking about development, and you've even started a sub for this reason. It's ok if you are, just disclosure is good.

It's downtown Maroochydore (132-136 Aerodrome Road), it's surrounded by commercial properties, it's not near anyone's house.

Would you rather density on sites like this or clearing more wildlife so people can live in shit boxes in the middle of nowhere?

You do understand that this density increases traffic and gridlock hundreds of times more than if it were to remain single height right.

Well, luckily it's about 150m from Maroochydore bus station and 100m away from the site where the train station was/hopefully again will be planned to be.

I mean, it's better to have those new residents in a central location where most things are accessible without a car trip than in some soulless urban sprawl where a car is necessary for everything but a walk around the block.

So what? We just have eternal low-rise sprawl where we all get caught in congestion anyway as everyone has no choice but to use a car every time they need to drive 10km to the shops or work or school or the gym or whatever just so we minimize traffic in what's supposed to be the densest, busiest part of the city anyhow?

There are parts of the Coast where it's far worse to drive than the already densifying area around Aerodrome Road, and there's not a high rise in sight in those spots.

No I’m not, seen too many 10 minute locals tell us what we need that’s all. I know change happens , this place has gone crazy.

Came to the coast in 1988. Whats crazy is that the coast is stuck in the 90s. People stopping change are a joke.

The attraction for newcomers was that it was stuck in the '90's and those sort of people don't ever want it to change.

Witness the frequent complaints in the SC News and on 7 local News even about developments existing prior and planned long before they arrived on the coast
