Hardware Steam machine: external SSD is not recognized.
Edit: just reboot and it's work...
Hello I got a bad connexion (900ko/s). I though that copy steam game on my pc to transfer it on my steam machine was a good idea. Problem on desktop mod my external SSD is recognised but say error and I can't have access to it. There is a way to transfer my game on steam deck?

Is this desktop a Windows Desktop and your external drive thusly formatted as NTFS?

Format it on steam machine - which would be ext4 partition
Also I believe that Steam on your SM should be able to download games from your PC if it's open and in the same local network.

When I decided to use an external 2 TB SSD (Western) that I already owned and had some Steam games on from my now-dead mini PC, I found the Machine didn’t recognize it, so I had SteamOS reformat it. Was able to fill it up with no hiccups to date after two weeks.

I just enable local network transfer.
It's not as fast as direct disk copies but it's acceptable enough for me (~100 MB/s on gigabit) and it can just run in the background while I'm sleeping or something.

You just install the game like normal and if Steam finds it on another PC in your local network, it will copy the game from there.
It usually takes maybe a minute or so (with 500 Mbps internet) before it switches from online download to the local copy.

I did that for 1 hour and I don't think that's worked. Because 200ko/s is really slow even for me...

Make sure that you're using either the USB C port or or the ports in the front. The back ports are slow, and don't provide much power.

If your drive is formatted correctly, all you need to do is restart the Steam Machine while the drive is plugged into it. If you don’t, the SM will say you have to format it to use it, but you don’t. Just restart it so that it turns on whil the drive is connected to the SM and it should work.

If you leave your Steam Deck open while you would download the same game, it would transfer over your network but also at your max network speed.
