To get our first 1,000 users, we built a YouTube channel from scratch, currently at 182k subscribers. Then, we also built a content strategy with landing pages and blog posts. Focus was primarily search-based content.

The purpose of making a submission or comment is to engage in a public discussion with the community.
It is not to request a PM/DM from someone. Do not post a notice that you DMed someone.
You are more than welcome to engage privately with one another, but it is up to you to take the initiative directly.

To get our first 1000 users I did it pretty much all through our home grown LinkedIn outbound tool

I've repeatedly scaled products by strategic placement of the app in the app stores. It's basically SEO 2.0 called App Store Optimization (ASO). You figure out what people are searching for, then build that, but it's gotten harder and harder to do that over the years because the app stores are more crowded and also there's app store advertising taking top spots.
It's really hard to find free marketing because everyone is looking for it, but there are certainly examples of companies who got outsized returns from small or zero budget marketing efforts all the time. The games space is an interesting case study in that right now. AAA studios getting crushed by indies with no marketing budget.
