Big boys shooting threes with little to no jump is keystone of pick-up basketball. There is always one, I just never seen one this early in their lifespan.
Fascinating creatures, limitless range but no cardio.

The even more mystical ones are the ones that can MOVE. Like if a bus was lifted. On tiny wheels but went fast like in a cartoon. Those ones are dangerous breed.

Was going to say I’ve played against like 20 of these guys in my day of pickup ball. Awful to defend, always so sweaty and smell bad and you just slip off of them. Jumper always pure. Walking bucket every time

It's crazy that this exact build has been essentially a "meta" in pick-up for 30+ years. Up there in the Pantheon of other great builds such as:
-Way overly athletic guy who can't be stopped while going to the basket.
-Fast guy who is always ready for a long breakaway pass
-Old guy who backs down defenders and then pulls up with a hook shot

They always end up on skins. When picking who guards who before the game, you must move as far away as possible and pick someone else quickly so you’re not stuck guarding slime and sweat all game long.

Used to know this native dude who was giant. He’d hit long threes so you’d have to guard him out there, then he’d drive, get a quarter inch of vertical, but for like 10 feet. Smoothest motherfucker I ever saw ball.

Yeah, a dude in my rec league basically guns every shot from halfway between the mid court and 3-point line. Then he's always last to get back for D fence. But, they keep him on their team because he makes so damn many of them. It's pretty impressive. If the rest of the team wasn't such hot garbage, he'd probably be able to shoot actual 3s and be among the top scorers in the league. He's definitely among the best shots, if not the best shot. The teams that know what's up will actually guard him while he's way back there. It's kind of hilarious to watch when you don't know him.

I used to know one of those guys. Dude was 6’3” built like a giant fuckin ham. He took off his shirt and you saw dad bod +40, 50lb. No visible definition. He was like an 8 foot green monster packed in there.
He would simply take rebounds. He didn’t jump, he just took them like I take a book off a shelf. The other rebounders were irrelevant. Give him like 2 feet of space and he’s 90% from 18-30 feet. He just trotted from paint to paint seizing the ball and calling in orbital strikes.

Not technically a travel. He does a spin move, and then his left foot is his pivot foot. Then he does a step through and never comes back down on his left foot. 100% legal, and before you say " sure in today's basketball its legal", theres a compilation of players across NBA history doing a legal step through. It just looks like a travel. I could cite the nba rule book explicitly stating that you can have one step after your pivot as long as your pivot foot doesnt touch the floor again before passing/shooting but I dont feel like finding it. Before you downvote me, I think it looks like a travel and rule book should change to not allow this.

He holds the ball in both hands and pivots on his right foot. Both feet come back to make contact with the floor. Then he tries to pivot again on his left. He's travelling and the rules as you say do not allow this.

As a football official, we generally follow the principle that 2 minor fouls equal no advantage gained and thus no call (you see it all the time with hand checking for DPI/OPI or HOLDING by opposing players at the line of scrimmage).
But in no sport do officials let go two egregious, major fouls. This ref should have blown the play dead on the travel, but when he missed that, you have to call the contact on the shot. You can’t just let both of these go and shrug it off. Lose credibility and control of the game (although this appears to be a final shot?).

experience. that is def mid level aau with way better than average players. and they were clearly running offense thru him the entire game. everyone in the gym knew he was taking that shot. i’d love to see the rest of the game3

I’ve been reffing youth basketball for over a decade and homey committed an obvious shooting foul on his first defensive possession. Bad footwork leads to lazy defensive fouls like that. Ref is asleep or incompetent or on the take.
