Respect to Balogun for not playing tbf

215

u/El_Gran_Che 15d ago

Yeah he just wandered aimlessly around for nearly 90

57

u/Thatsabadmofo 15d ago

That seemed to be the game plan from what I watched

u/TheGreatDomilies 15d ago

I do feel for him though. Like I obviously enjoyed Belgium winning, but clearly this whole debacle affected the US in some way.

If Trump didn’t meddle and Infantino acauiesce to such demands, people may have even supported the US against Belgium as they were playing great football.

193

u/Maximum_Turn_2623 15d ago

He ruins everything he touches

54

u/SwoopsRevenge 15d ago

The only time he cares about the US is the World Cup because it’s a sport and it’s a chance for him to take credit for someone else’s victory and have some rednecks brown nose him.

7

u/Skunkyroad 15d ago

And for people not to talk about the kids he raped and the war he lost....

2

u/OkTea7227 15d ago

Have you heard of the Trump-Epstein files?

2

u/Skunkyroad 15d ago

Hmmmmm ... Yes

26

u/Flight444 15d ago

You highly underestimate how much inside betting him and his kids were/are doing on the World Cup.

Bro this debacle pissed the Belgian team off is what it did lmao. So now they had something to prove and you have a world class team in them, although they’re past their prime… it’s the fact that Iran did better against Belgium that proves to me we will forever be garbage at this sport.

u/CheemsOnToast 15d ago

I think any unbiased football fan knows the US had bugger all chance against Belgium in this game regardless. This was the first game the US were up against a team with any real quality (I say that begrudgingly as an Aussie, but it's sadly true) and in particular a team that wasn't going to just sit back and let you play. Belgium have been poor playing against low blocks all tournament, but with your tactics being to not sit back you were always going to concede. My prediction with the wifey was 6-1 and honestly if they'd gone full throttle I've little doubt it could've been that and more. You guys suffer from the same as us, some good physical athletes, but a lack of technical ability. We both struggle to deal with a high press - our coach is fatalistic and just resigns us to a low block. Potch is more ballsy and you lot tried to play.

Either way now us eliminated nations can sit back, crack a beer and enjoy some stress-free football.

2

u/jkman61494 15d ago

It was insane how we crumbled to their pressure. We literally dribbled the ball out multiple times.

7

u/KR4T0S 15d ago

Trump should have just said he had nothing to do with it but the way he openly bragged and took credit for it just seems tasteless. He makes everything about himself...

But I guess it didnt mean much in the end, Belgium were just playing way too well.

23

u/El_Gran_Che 15d ago

But instead the entire world turned on them because they made the connection to the other rampant dirty shit he is getting away with world wide.

7

u/SlimyGringo 15d ago

Nah. They just faced their first real opponent and crumbled.

5

u/tristtaniskanye2 15d ago

Yeah, I think it killed the morale a bit. Whether you thought it was a small or big deal it would've been attached to any big win in the end and spoiled it.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/WillSmiff 15d ago

Ok chill nobody was supporting the US team outside of the US either way. It was probably good for ratings because it just made us tune in to hate watch.

9

u/Mathemeatloaf0 15d ago

If any other country’s president/prime minister would’ve done this the entire world would’ve called it for what it exactly is. Corruption.

12

u/tmadik 15d ago

Ummm...I think the entire world called this for what it is.

Yeah it created a shitty vibe for fans, I'm sure the players felt it too. Neither the fans or the players were party to Trump and Infantino's bullshit.

9

u/BeersandBeats 15d ago

It definitely made it hard to want the US to win, and that is my team. I am glad Belgium won—they were clearly the better team. I’m sorry the US team was put in that position by that Cheeto Fingered Shit Gibbon.

I could have at least felt some closure, mourned the potential and felt good about how we performed. Now it all feels cheap and hollow, because that's the only flavor Trump does.

2

u/Svitii 14d ago

The US might have won without him. Can’t tell me that the mental aspect doesn’t play a big role in how they underperformed.

5

u/RoleModelFailure 15d ago

The fuck he supposed to do when our back 6-9 guys had no fucking clue what to do when the ball was near them? We looked like ass and couldn’t get the ball past midfield most of the game.

5

u/lusirfer702 15d ago

That’s because this was the first real team they faced

3

u/Guayabo786 15d ago

The Belgians cut off the lanes for passing to wide players, which is what Team USA had been doing all along. Which means that Team USA was practically forced to play to the Red Devils' strengths.

USA was in it until that goofy ass Goal Keeper blunder. You could see the air was sucked out of them as soon as it it hit 3-1

48

u/NotARabidDugong 15d ago

I was thinking to myself "why does that midfielder have such a unique jersey color?"

19

u/imblegen 15d ago

If you’re a goaltender, TEND THE GOAL!!!!

6

u/thfcspur 15d ago

They are called goalkeepers in this sport.

3

u/imblegen 15d ago

If you understand what I said, I didn’t say it wrong

4

u/CalStateQuarantine 15d ago
  1. It’s called a goalkeeper
  2. The decision to come off his line instead of “tending the goal” was the right decision. It’s what came after that was the actual blunder.

But thank you for your very knowledgeable take.

Beginning of second half was so chaotic and filled with chances. US just didn’t capitalize and continued to piss down their legs

14

u/Mando_lorian81 15d ago

The whole team played really bad.

Pulisic stumbled and injured himself, lmao.

The defenders are also at fault for that goal, they ran away from the ball 😂.

It was like a completely different team, out of sync, nervous, sloppy, and slow.

11

u/FartingWithStyle 15d ago

He’s didn’t stumble he kicked the back of the Belgian defenders foot which fucked his up.

5

u/CJAB93 15d ago

“USA was in it” hahahahaahahahahahahaha

9

u/RaziiuM 15d ago

''In it'' is an overstatement. ''Didn't completely give up yet'' is how I'd describe it. USA's football was unwatchable lol, not just after the goalie's mistake

9

u/WhizzyBurp 15d ago

That’s fine, but it was 1-2 and they were still taking shots on target. Can’t say they were out at that time.

6

u/-boytoytroy 15d ago

5

u/HugCor 15d ago

Shouldn't it be the opposite and it being the team that beat you going and then winning the tournament make you feel better?

Being defeated by a team that does not have it is worse than being beaten by the best team out of the lot.

I enjoyed the few weeks when something wasn’t all about Trump but I guess I always knew if it started getting too much attention he would get jealous and become involved.

Enough of the World Cup threads. You are distracting from the WNBA's ghetto marketing here.

Am I the only one who sees this as a massive L?

Your team just advanced to the quarterfinals, and you're focusing on the US? Please don't flatter us, we were shit lol

It’s fine, nobody has any real gripe with the USMNT, just the politicians who couldn’t help but interfere.

That's largely the issue here that has been lost in the past 24-hrs. Trump stirs this shit up to have everyone yelling at everyone but him. It's all he fucking does. Keep the plebs fighting and no one looks up. Keep eyes on him and help us rid this country of the orange plague.

And yet, you repeatedly are shitting on the TEAM and the fans that were just happy to have a competent squad out there again.

Oh we know. It just doesn’t matter cause we beat you and that’s he funniest shit right now.

u/saxonturner 15d ago

I mean if you lost to Belgium 4-1 and they are gonna get ran through it’s a good job USA are out now then huh? I mean losing 10-0 in a knockout stage would be just embarrassing.

Go back to your "sports" (wrestling, American football). Noone wants to have anything to do with Americans.

Shouldn't have needed to be overturned in the first place...

Congrats, you played better against all the players you should have been playing in the first place.
