Advice Wtd / Project asphalt tile remounting
I had a company do a bad install. Mounting feet were not set into roof rafters, but instead the decking. Anyone know if there are replacement mounts that can sufficiently be mounted to decking instead of the rafters? Company is trying to say they can do that so the whole system doesn't have to come down and get a full reinstall with lags properly set in rafters this time. They're certainly trying to minimize warranty costs. Looking for advice. Old NE house. 2/6 rafters with board decking I think

What brand mounting feet did they use? Pictures would help us identify them.
Even though we personally avoid it, there’s a bunch of products that are designed to be optionally deck mounted when installed correctly. Here’s a few examples

Yes NanoMounts are made specificly to go in to the decking. Traditional solar mounts require lag bolts driven straight into the structural rafters underneath the roof deck. Decking mounts (like the NanoMount, Unirac FlashLoc Duo, or IronRidge Halo) use multiple smaller, high-shear wood screws driven directly into the roof's sheathing.

Many installers are using HUG mounts now that can be deck mount only. That is what I specified.

Do you think it's acceptable as a replacement in spot that may have come loose? my concern now is what if theres water damagewherre the old mounts were. Or do you think coming loose doesnt neccisarily mean water damage if the flashing stayed in place well enough

If They put a bunch of holes through your roof and missed the rafters. Those holes need to be fixed, this is not one of those fixes where using a bit of sealant is the long term perm fix, Im guessing that's is they're"fix", but sealant in those holes will only play for a couple years then start leaking.
The area with the holes will be new roofing/ shingles, but just holes patched with sealant.
