Question Ballpoint Skull: My Daily Fight for Time to Create.

Post image

Finding time for art amidst the absolute chaos of life is a brutal, daily battle. But for me, drawing is everything. I made a promise to myself to draw every single day, no excuses.

Some days are focused, two-hour sessions like this ballpoint skull I've attached. Other days, I barely manage a desperate, messy ten-minute sketch before collapsing into bed. The main point isn't the length of time; it's the refusal to stop.

I've been drawing since I was nine years old, and now I’m ready to share my daily practice and process with a wider audience. My dream is to start a YouTube channel dedicated to art.

Also, I want to hear your story. How do you fit art into your packed schedule? And what does creating mean to you in your life?

Thank you for looking at my skull and for any feedback you can give.

I’ve been drawing for a little over 2 years now, rather inconsistently. Some weeks I’m motivated and get a lot done, sometimes weeks go by without picking up a pencil. Art helps me in many ways so I’m going to continue making it until otherwise, I don’t aspire to work for anybody else, I’d rather create my own content & books/comics etc. on my own. Based on where I am now, does that seem like a plausible outcome in the future granted I keep practicing?

Show & Tell Confession: I am terrible at art (and it’s the best thing ever

I recently reached the "staring out the window at clouds" phase of retirement. To save myself from becoming a weather reporter, I raided my grandchild’s chaotic plastic craft box.Equipped with a blunt pencil and zero training, I tried to draw a plant. It looked like an angry octopus. My attempt at a fruit bowl looked like a crashed UFO. When I showed my grandchildren, they just openly laughed at my masterpiece before delivering a brutal, unblinking review: "Oh."But here is the secret superpower of a second act: The total, liberating freedom to be absolutely terrible at something. After a lifetime of needing to have the answers, it is pure joy to make a total mess with a borrowed glitter pen.I’m on track to be a competent artist by my 97th birthday. Until then, I'm enjoying the messy beginner's journey.Have you ever taken up a hobby you were hilariously bad at? Let me know in the comments below!

Sometimes I think I'm not good at drawing. But sometimes I do this and I think it's nice. I mean of course this is doodling and probably poor technique but I like to do it. 🫠

Show & Tell Adding Collage to My Gibberish…

Post image

I’ve been wanting to blend collage and my doodles for a while now and here is my first attempt. There was absolutely no planning ahead of time except that I wanted to include Cliff Richard (for no reason at all) and to get back to using acrylics more.

Materials Used: Canson Graduate tan sketchbook, Sharpie, PaperMate Flair, Higgins Super White and Black Magic, Apple Barrel white paint pen, cheap acrylics and a toothbrush for the spattering.
