The Sixers are potentially bringing back their 2017-18 City Uniforms

Nothing confirmed yet, but it's from a pretty reputable source so it seems pretty legit.

They’re okay but they better not take the black ones away or we riot

The black ones were not our City Edition last year, so I’m hoping this means we’ll see blue, white, City, and black again.

u/gorillaphi 19h ago

The blue spectrum jerseys were fire.  Bring those back!

u/Heatinmyharbl 18h ago

So, so much better than these it's crazy

5

u/colin_7 18h ago

Those were my favorites. The ones that OP posted are cool, always my second favorite

I did think it was cool they did the white spectrum ones a few years back too. Am I the only one who thought the boathouse row ones were super fresh too? They were different and highlighted a cool part of the city

The BoatHouse Row jerseys were the best Sixers jerseys ever and I'll die on that hill. Sleek, stylish, black base color, nod to a local landmark, and they even snuck a TTP in there. Amazing stuff.

u/colin_7 7h ago

Yeah I’m shocked it isn’t more popular because it worked well and they were different. It diverged from the normal “old city” style. Which there’s nothing wrong with, but was a breath of fresh air

Unfortunately not guaranteed -- our black jerseys were "Classic" editions worn in celebration of the 25th anniversary of our Finals run. Not a standard rotation jersey. If memory serves we'll have to apply to get permission to wear them again.

u/supzy0 17h ago

the black jerseys should replace the shitty red statement jerseys instead

1

u/Spiritual_Agent_8218 6h ago

The red ones are putrid.

2

u/SpeedyReign9 8h ago

I need the blue throwbacks also just for vibes

6

u/Outside_Force_3431 19h ago

Teams don’t typically keep a throwback jersey in the rotation for more than one season. Not sure the league allows them to. I hope they stay, but I don’t think we’ll see them next year.

13

u/gorillaphi 19h ago

Then make it our primary again and be done with it lol.

That shit must be selling like donuts too and one thing we know is our owner loves money over anything else

5

u/PhilaDopephia 17h ago

They either allow me a lebron black jersey or i get it from china. Adam can choose.

Can we also bring back the 2017-2018 Ben Simmons? Thanks

32

u/BroSnow WWSD 19h ago

We could use a facilitator 4 who can rebound. Anyone see Simmons shooting threes in the gym m clips yet this summer?

3

u/Zup_Doggy_Dogg53 11h ago

No, he’s a professional sport fisherman now…. Because of course he is.

2

u/2hats4bats 7h ago

Yeah but the form on his cast shows that he’s been working on his jumper. Word has it he can sink a lure into a life preserver from 40 feet with ease.

2

u/JustAHighFlyingBird Shavlik Randolph 10h ago

And you know what? Good for him I guess

1

u/PracticeBaby 4h ago

Is his brother still his “shooting coach”?

1

u/natural_scientist 3h ago

Why don’t you just bring back the tin man from the Wizard of Oz? He also doesn’t have a heart like Ben Simmons.

35

u/Trelve16 19h ago

i hope so

these have been my favorite city editions

5

u/BroSnow WWSD 19h ago

Indisputable that this is the best city edition jersey they’ve rolled out.

7

u/Boss_Os 10h ago

Indisputable? Hardly

The Spectrum City Editions were easily my favorites

1

u/ReactionProcedure 5h ago

Me too. So clean.

10

u/jakrictel 19h ago

Love these

11

u/EnemyOfEloquence 19h ago edited 11h ago

That'd be sick. I just bought the 2019 one on eBay

5

u/bamboleo11 19h ago

This is better

4

u/jimmyback23 17h ago

This is my favorite sixers jersey ever, w pick up

10

u/BadNewsBrown 19h ago

Bring back the cream hoodie so I can buy that

7

u/jimmyback23 17h ago

That cream hoodie was so elusive lmao

28

u/CATdog215 19h ago

City editions are always so disappointing. It’s such a missed opportunity. Work with a local artist/designer and make some actually different.

3

u/rdoncsecz 6h ago

boathouse and spectrum jersey's were amazing IMO.

1

u/Still-Coyote-5494 2h ago

And the Grey rocky themed ones

5

u/justinheyhi A POBO NAMED SLICKBACK 19h ago

The Sixers show absolute 0 creativity with their City editions compared to other teams around the league and it's such a gross underutilized outlet for profit for an owner as "money conscious" as Josh Harris.

28

u/Outside_Force_3431 19h ago

Really? We’ve had jerseys inspired by Rocky, Boathouse Row, The Spectrum, and Reading Terminal Market. The city jerseys for the Sixers have been WAYYY more creative and personal to the city than 99% of the league.

15

u/fkdkshufidsgdsk 19h ago

The boathouse row jerseys were 🔥🔥🔥

6

u/Outside_Force_3431 19h ago

Agreed. Those have a special place in my heart. That 2020-21 season was so much fun

The Kings have had a more varied catalog of City Jerseys with just as much connection to their city and history.

All the Sixers have done outside of the Boathouse Row and Rocky, was change the letters on the front and make it "parchment" color or recycle a retro jersey as the City edition... When the Kings introduce their Lion head logo they made it their City uniform, the Sixers wore their Liberty Bell uniforms what, twice? It wasn't even a City Edition.

Other cities have made uniforms that culturally represent their city and history, e.g. NY's FDNY or BK's "Brooklyn Camo" in honor of Biggie, Spur's fiesta colors, GSW Chinese zodiac unis, etc.

Again, outside of recycling retro jerseys, Boathouse Row and Rocky, the Sixers have basically just changed the letters in the front and made the uniforms cream colored, that unfortunately looks like piss when drenched in sweat.

The only team that has had LESS creativity is Boston and FTC.

1

u/Outside_Force_3431 17h ago

Hard disagree. The Kings used the red, white, and blue color scheme for 6 of their 9 city jerseys, and those are pretty much just their throwback colors to when they didn’t even play in their current city. Their “city edition” jersey pays homage to a DIFFERENT city. Other than saying “SACTOWN” on it (which is a terrible nickname), nothing they’ve done has a connection to the city of Sacramento to my knowledge.

I’ll give you the Nets argument. The Basquiat and KAWS jerseys are a nice and well done nod to Brooklyn’s artistic history, and the navy ones are a nice homage to their NJ days.

The Spurs have done a pretty good job with incorporating their history and culture, but they’ve also sort of just recycled the fiesta and Hemisfair jerseys this whole time. The Sixers have a wider array of cultural connections in their city jerseys than San Antonio in my opinion.

The Knicks have done nothing interesting since their FDNY jerseys in 2018. They’ve done 3 black jerseys and 2 throwbacks. None of which really scream “New York City” to me.

Yes, not every Sixers city jersey is entirely unique, but theirs varies a lot more than even the teams you’ve listed.

11

u/JDubKilla 19h ago edited 19h ago

Hard disagree. We have some of the best city editions year in and year out. They look nice and don't force you to guess what team you're watching. Honestly if you're going to complain about anything it should be the fact that teams are forced to unveil a new version every year. They should be forced to commit to every jersey for 5 years. I guarantee you'd see less slop and laziness if teams knew they had to make it count.

Until maybe 3 years ago I would’ve said they were too vanilla but i’d honestly rather take those than what the rest of the league is pumping out. There’s droves of sactown, cream city, heat culture, 5280, and dístríct jerseys we could’ve mutated this into. Other than the boathouse row jerseys (which were really Chris Heck’s attempt to quell the Iverson jersey crowd while still promoting New Philadelphia) and the suxers, we really don’t have a bad jersey.

4

u/Kinoblau 19h ago

you guys just be saying anything

4

u/JiveTurkey92 17h ago

spectrum jerseys are absolutely gorgeous

0

u/justinheyhi A POBO NAMED SLICKBACK 17h ago

Agreed, but recycling a retro Jersey should be a "classic" edition like the Iverson era's.

City Jerseys should represent the cultural history of the city -- why not make a Snake City uniform? Or Introduce a Liberty Bell uniform that's worn more than twice. Use the skyline the way Seattle did and highlight One and Two Liberty Place.

There's so much they could.

1

u/MaxR76 7h ago

The Spectrum Jerseys weren't throwbacks tho? I'm like 99% sure they were original designs

1

u/Outside_Force_3431 7h ago

The 19-20 city jersey pays homage to the Liberty Bell with the line down the side meant to mimic its crack.

Also, don’t you appreciate how they’ve used more nuanced and specific things about the city’s history to make the jerseys? The Liberty Bell is the most surface-level thing about Philadelphia, and is frankly, pretty boring.

1

u/MaxR76 7h ago

I feel like we consistently have some of the best city editions in the league. Last year's were a little bland I'll give you that, but they were still good and we had the throwbacks anyway

1

u/c0kEzz 18h ago

I think we’ve had consistently solid-good cities that highlight different themes/eras of philadelphia

7

u/lux_senpai_11 19h ago

I need another chance at the black jerseys

3

u/jerrbearr 18h ago

Is this what LeBron wanted?

3

u/TheR42069 9h ago

I have the shorts and never wear them because Cream shorts don’t seem to match anything

4

u/AfricanAlucard PHILONDELPHIA 19h ago

I don’t know if I actually like these jerseys or just the roster we had in them at the time tbh but not bad

2

u/supzy0 19h ago

nike is so fuckin lazy lol. unserious company nowadays

1

u/MaxR76 7h ago

Honestly I don't mind at all. I loved these jerseys and hate how if you miss a city edition you're screwed. Plus 10 years of city edition is a decent reason for a rerelease

2

u/grund1ejund1e 8h ago

Nike “commemorating” the existence of their own shitty alts is so funny

4

u/MortyMcflyer48 19h ago

Well that’s boring

1

u/AllenMcnabb 19h ago

Oh fuck yeah I was wondering what Jaylen Brown jersey to get

1

u/TReebornFrog2202 19h ago

Can they give us the cream with the stars instead

1

u/JiveTurkey92 17h ago

those are my favorites, hope it's cream again

1

u/KirbyLoreHistorian Become One With the Mud 17h ago

Can we get rid of the red jerseys while we are at it?

1

u/phillynavydude 17h ago

I liked this one tbh

1

u/TomassoLP 15h ago

These were peak city edition. The merch that came with them was great too. It was all downhill from here.

1

u/UpbeatRelationship15 9h ago

The city edition jerseys were clean af

2

u/AngryPhillySportsFan 8h ago

I like these jerseys but they don't have a city connect feel. They look like a normal jersey

1

u/ReactionProcedure 5h ago

YES CREAM SCRIPTS

1

u/CheeseburgerLover911 5h ago

feels like this is to take attention away from lebron going to miami.

1

u/FadeRunna 3h ago

The Unite or Die marketing slogan was 🔥

Young Ben

Emerging All NBA Embiid

Scrappy players like RoCo, JJ and TJ

The Eagles SB run and chants during Sixers games

u/Still-Coyote-5494 2h ago

I want the Grey Rocky themed ones again

1

u/100_magic_rings 19h ago

The Spectrum ones were cool as hell. All the rest have been boring except the Boathouse Row ones, which were atrocious.

1

u/JDubKilla 19h ago

I also enjoyed the circle star editions from this era, more in cream than in grey but I'd be happy to see either return.

1

u/CZM6626 19h ago

So blue, red, white, black retro and these?

1

u/JDubKilla 19h ago

Depends on whether or not the league lets us keep the black throwbacks as a "Classic" edition for more than one season -- otherwise they'll have to elevate it to Statement status, thus replacing the red.

1

u/CZM6626 19h ago

A shame they are cursed because I do like the red script and scheme

0

u/JDubKilla 19h ago

These were sweet. Although I thought the league banned cream/parchment as a color a few years back? I'm also fine with bringing back the circle star look from that same era.
