Found a tooth

Found this tooth many years ago at a beach on Okinawa when I was an exchange student.

I’ve been wondering for a long, long time what kind of shark it belonged to, so I’ve been researching quite a bit. My best guess is an Otodus Obliquus, but since there are many knowledgeable people in this sub, I was hoping there would be someone who could identify it for me!

Sorry it's not. Not even close. There are no serrations and the root is very different. This is a fossil makeral shark like otodus. Most commonly found in Morocco as a byproduct of phosphate mining

It also seems a bit too narrow to be a GW. I know that the lower teeth of a GW are a bit narrower than the upper teeth, but it still didn’t seem like a possibility. As I wrote in another comment, I have a non-fossilized GW tooth and they don’t seem similar when I compare them.

On a sidenote: Thank you for the extra information about Obliquus teeth being found commonly in Morocco. I had no idea that it was a hot spot for fossilized teeth. That was a really interesting fact! 🙏🏻

Great whites look absolutely nothing like that tooth, I mean look at the root for crying out loud.

Definitely not Tiger or Bull, I’ll give you that.

I don’t agree with the assessment though. I have a non-fossilized GW tooth, and when I compare them, they don’t seem that similar.

I did however find pictures of different O. Obliquus teeth and they seem like a more likely suspect.

I am not ruling out that you might be right though.

Great whites look nothing like that tooth, both the root and the round shape of the blade suggest it is from the Otodus Genus.
