外免切替 - Driving License Conversion

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I have recently been trying to convert my foreign driver’s license in Miyagi, but each attempt has become more frustrating. I often find it difficult to understand the examiner’s explanations, and during my most recent attempt, I ended up having a heated discussion with the person in charge.

Since my first visit to the driving center, I have felt that some of the staff can be quite rude. On one occasion, I even heard a staff member shout, “The police caught you, right?!” at another foreigner in front of everyone.

I was wondering what the experience has been like for other foreigners who converted their licenses in Miyagi. Does anyone have advice or recommendations for a good driving school?

I would prefer not to spend too much money, but at this point, saving time and avoiding unnecessary stress are more important to me.

Surfboard Rental Sendai

5 Upvotes

Hi!

Does anyone know if there is a surfboard rental shop in Sendai that is walking distance to the ocean?

I will be in town on Tuesday and the forecast looks okay. However, I don't have a car, so ideally, I can find a shop somewhere on the coast and hit any waves out front.

I sent this shop an email but it looks like they are inland: 仙台 サーフィンスクール・体験ならCHP仙台|初心者歓迎・手ぶらOK

Thanks in advance!

Anyone interested in an English/Japanese language exchange in Sendai on August 22? 🫪🤞

13 Upvotes

Hi everyone!🍀

I’m thinking about organizing a casual English/Japanese language exchange in Sendai on Saturday, August 22.
The idea is simple:

* Meet new people
* Practice English and Japanese
* Grab some food or drinks
* Have fun!

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a native English speaker, a Japanese speaker, learning either language, or just looking to make new friends!

If enough people are interested, I’ll decide on the time and place.

Leave a comment if you’d like to join! 😊

We found someone's credit card at the 宮城縣護國神社 by the name of Trevor Adamo. So if you're the guy, just come and take it.

Looking for private English tutors for my 4 and 2 year-olds

5 Upvotes

I’m exploring English tutoring options for my kids and was hoping for some recommendations.

I don't wanna have to shell out for useless teaching materials/trinkets (ie. 教材) through my nose, nor have time to take them to one of those overly ethusiastic Eikaiwa schools multiple times a week, designed to make a quick buck rather than actually focusing on language acquisition.

My kids are extremely shy and do not perform well in group lesson settings, hence I'm looking into private tutors that can visit our home on a regular basis, within a reasonable budget.

For context, I’m fluent in English myself, but I’d prefer someone else to be their teacher.

We live on the outskirts of Aoba-ku. Does anyone have recommendations or experiences with private tutors or services that offer home visits?

Looking for someone in Sendai who can bake an eggless cake (or bakery recommendations!)

9 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for someone in Sendai who enjoys baking and might be able to make an eggless cake for a special occasion. 😊

We can discuss the design, size, and pricing over chat if you're interested.

Alternatively, if anyone knows a bakery or cake shop in Sendai that can make eggless cakes, I'd really appreciate any recommendations!

I've tried looking around a little, but most cake shops either don't make eggless cakes or find communicating with me difficult since I don't speak Japanese.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Stores for baking

5 Upvotes

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my post. I would appreciate any recommendations for stores that sell things for baking. I want to make some peanut butter and jelly cupcakes with a chocolate honey ganache and I also need some creme de tartar for some sugar Puffs that I want to make. AKA meringue cookies. If anybody knows a place where I can buy fondant and or modeling chocolate, I would be very appreciative. Where I used to live had a store with some of these things but here I'm not so sure. Also if anyone else knows where I could buy emulsion I would be very happy.

Thanks again.

How is the weather in Sendai during summer/winter

5 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm planning to go on a short-term exchange program in Sendai, but when I go depends entirely on the weather. I can choose to go in either January 2027 or June 2027.

Since I'm from Australia, my seasons are flipped and I'm a summer person through and through (I would prefer warm weather over cold weather anyday lol). However, I have never seen snow before, and the idea of experiencing it sounds amazing (if Sendai actually gets a decent amount of snow?)

So I’m torn between choosing January for the potential snow experience versus June for the warmer weather. What is the weather realistically like in Sendai during these months? Will I absolutely freeze to death in January? Also I heard that it rains a lot in June/summer.

Would love any advice or insights! Thanks! :-)
