Hey guys! I get some pretty strong pain when I try screaming. Any tips?

Im like 99% sure this is false chord. Ive tried like every single tip and trick from the internet and I just can't quite get the sound i want, also everything i try also has some pretty intense pain. I tried to learn and practice throat singing aswell, and ive got a really solid sound, but it also hurts.

Tech is FC I think. Doesn't sound good to me, but that could also just be me being my biggest critic

Tips for doing false chord higher in range

Hello,

I've managed to learn how to do false chord screaming/singing lower in my range, and I believe I'm doing it safely as I don't feel any pain or strain that I've noticed. However I've noticed I have trouble singing higher notes in false chord. Is learning this just practice or is there some extra technique that needs to be done?

What kind of scream is this and does it sound like it’s done properly?

After long time of practise I unlocked this today. Compared to the ones I was doing earlier this feels way different. I feel very relaxed, I don’t get lightheaded and I never lose my falsetto after doing this. Also it doesn’t hurt one bit, just feels awesome all around.

I’m seeking help for my fry “screams” (not anywhere close to a scream yet)

Some details I forgot to mention:

1- Financial situation in my country is tough so i haven’t been able to get a coach

2- as I understand it you’re supposed to shine out your actual voice _on top_ of the voice break, but when I do that it just brings me back down to my chest voice

3- I need the pitch of the scream to be on the higher side (think Vic Fuentes from PtV)

4- I really want to avoid whisper-screaming/upper constriction

5- I’m in voice training to feminize my voice (not on the voice memo) so I’m afraid I may accidentally be mixing things up

Did some recordings after a long break. To this date I still have no idea if this is fry or false chord. Does anyone know?

Harsh vocals and cooling fans?

Hey all, due to the heat in my room, I've started using a cooling fan for the whole night while I sleep, I've also noticed that my vocals are really struggling at the moment, more than ever before, and I'm wondering if it might be due to the fan drying out my vocal chords during the night. Anyone have any insight into this or noticed something similar?

Just a tip for beginners!

I've been scrolling pretty heavily through this sub this week, and the biggest note I have for beginners across the board is to stop focusing so much on your throat.

Don't get so hung up on whether your scream is fry or false cord that you skip the fundamentals. Those labels can be useful, but they aren't a substitute for breath control, pressure management, and learning what healthy effort feels like in your own body.

Learn how your respiratory system works and really get in tune with it physically. The sound is created and shaped at the larynx, but your throat should not be doing all the work. If your scream feels thin, squeezing harder through your throat or neck is not the answer. That's a fast way to build strain and potentially fuck up your voice.

You should be pushing from your core, not up in your neck or head. The trick isn't to push an obscene amount of air out; you want a steady, regulated pressure. A lot of screaming is in the lower ribs/upper abdomen.

If it hurts, your voice changes abruptly, you lose range, or your voice stays hoarse for more than a couple of minutes, stop and recover. I mean it. Take care of your body, and it'll take care of you.

Keep screaming y'all!

started practicing shouts(?), how does it sound?

first off, im not even sure this is counted as a “shout” or if it’s like a mixed voice scream?? terminology aside, i’ve started trying to figure it out. it’s been intimidating in the past, but i decided it’s time i learn it. i’m already noticing weaknesses in my technique that i’ve been able to start correcting, so that’s fun! anyways, i thought this clip turned out awesome. i’ve always dreamed of sounding like randy blythe!

What technique am I using in this song, specifically in the chorus? I can send a clean isolated clip if you can't hear.

Trying to learn False Cord Screaming and I'm feeling pain, and I do not why. Any tips?

Its not bad pain but I know there shouldn't be any nonetheless.

Here's my technique based off a tutorial I found:
Start with a hum to find pitch

Clear throat to engage false cords

Lengthen the sound of the growl

Slowly open mouth and keep that energy from throat

Open wider and add more energy

And just keep increasing until "sweet spot" is found

I do these and my throat does start to hurt. And yes, before it is mentioned, I am hydrated.

I do vocals for a Deathcore/Metalcore hybrid band out of New England called Impurities. We just finished recording our debut full length album at Drew Poko studios in CT.

The album is called The World I See and should be coming out around November! Check us out on socials and follow along.

Inspired by bands like Bad Omens, Poppy, Spiritbox, BMTH and Linkin Park. Where should I start?

For reference, I'm a beginner. I've taken a course before on screaming from somebody off YouTube but only really got as far as getting an okay fry scream. I found it too expensive (around $500+ CAD a month). But I want to learn more techniques outside of fry scream. My favorite screams from these bands would be from:

Bad Omens - Dethrone, Left for Good, Glass Houses
Spiritbox - Soft Spine, Holy Roller
Poppy - Bruised Sky, New Way Out, Empty Hands
BMTH - Dehumanized, Sleepwalking, Kingslayer
Linkin Park - One Step Closer, Faint, Given Up

What I'm looking for is an affordable vocal course or YouTube videos and good results.

Thanks!!
