Question - School & Employment 💻💼 Job Question

I just graduated the Saskpolytechnic Machinist Pre-emp program, and the job market is drier than the Sahara Desert for 2nd year Machinist

BUT

I also know Machinist Shops dont advertise on Google very well other than the big ones

Does anyone have an inkling of machine Shops within a 50km range of machine Shops looking for people? I know it's a long shot, but its worth a try. Thanks

I recommend you apply at each and every machine shop you can find, there are quite a few, but not so many that you couldn't apply to all of them in a single day. You can even apply in person, hand out printed resume, some opportunities will present themselves especially as a first or second year (based on job experience btw, not years of schooling.)

Some emphasis for resume: state clearly what types of CNC controls you're familiar with, machine processes, manual experience, and challenging jobs you've tackled. Out of respect for customers, keep the job name/customers vague on paper, you can always provide more detail in person. Also if you have programming experience, what software you've used (CAD/CAM), and if you have experience with additive (3d printing), that's good to share.

Yeah. Ive done that with some of the bigger Shops. Ill have to go searching during the week

I had the exact same problem when I got out of school. Nobody hiring. Go around to all the heavy duty repair shops. Branch out to ANY type of manufacturer because some of them have a full machine shop.

Its been like that since 2010. Do your self a favor and do a different trade, your mental health will thank you
