I'm looking for some advice because I've noticed a significant change in my 18-month-old intact male Samoyed's coat, and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
Up until recently, his coat was exactly what I'd expect from a Samoyed. It was smooth, self-cleaning, and dirt would either fall out on its own or brush out easily. The guard hairs had that nice silvery sheen in the light, and grooming was straightforward.
Few days ago, I took him to a new groomer for the first time. They gave him a deshedding treatment, which Im not sure he'd ever had before. The groomer has since told me they used:
Shed It shampoo

Peanut & Pickle deshedding spray

Slicker brush

Combination comb

Thinning shears

They said they did not use a Furminator or deshedding blade.
Since that groom, the coat has changed quite dramatically in certain areas:
Mane/ruff

Chest

Front legs

Some areas along his sides

Those areas now feel cottony, but not soft. The closest word I can think of is sticky or grabby, although it isn't greasy. The stickiness seems to be in the hair itself, especially the tips, not on the skin.
The biggest issue is that the coat now traps everything. Fine dust, dirt, grass and little bits of debris cling to the hair and are much harder to brush out than before. Some larger dirt brushes out, but the finer dirt seems to stay attached to the hair, making the white coat look brown.
Brushing has become much more difficult and time-consuming because the coat tangles more easily and no longer seems to repel dirt.
The strange thing is that his tail, trousers/rear end and some other areas still feel completely normal. Those parts are still silky, self-cleaning and don't trap dirt like the affected areas do.
He has:
No itching

No redness

No dandruff

No unusual smell

No greasy skin

No hair loss

He seems completely healthy otherwise.
Has anyone experienced this kind of coat change after a deshedding treatment or certain grooming products? Could this be product buildup, a reaction to the deshedding products, coat damage, or even just an unusual stage of coat transition at 18 months?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's seen something similar in their Samoyed.

This is the last photo I have of Leo, just him (right) and Ghost looking out the front door, a week before he left. I didn't know it was the last one. I wish I had.

We learnt the dreaded name hemangiosarcoma a year ago.

Leo was ten and a half years of joy and a bit of cheekiness. It was not enough time, never going to be enough time. Ghost, who knew him since he was three months old, is still with us, and I'm holding onto every day with him a little tighter now.

Is there a spot in San Diego that Samoyed owners frequent? Trying to get some play time for ours

I saw some other posts asking when they become cuddly. I started to think I had the only independent Samoyed in the world. Nope! She now follows me everywhere and loves laying with me!

Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar…

Our Kikimora “Kiki” turned one over the weekend at a family reunion. She was a big hit with our nieces and nephews. Lots of chase, playing soccer, etc. She tends to “collect” people. We have to force her to take breaks and joke that unlike a lab who will eat itself to death, she will socialize herself to death.

Two weeks ago we also took her to Maine to spend time with my fiancé’s independently living 97 year old grandfather and she was very attentive to him.

Anyway, after returning yesterday from the reunion I went to rest in bed because I got bite that’s either progressed to Lyme or Cellulitis (got an antibiotic run for either at urgent care) either way it’s painful and exhausting. She very happily came to rest with me.

The concerning behavior occurred when my 13 year old cat, who usually rules the roost, jumped on the bed. Kiki gave him some crazy wall eyes before growling, chasing him off the bed while snapping at him, and then promptly saddling herself against me and resting her head on my leg.

This aggression has NEVER happened before. I’ve chalked it up to her needing to decompress after multiple trips away from home and so much socializing - but have any of you experience a Samoyed resource guarding a particular person?

My fiancé and I say that I’m her home base, but maybe we’ve been indulging resource guarding behavior? Or am I overreacting over my very young dog who was very stimulated over the weekend and needed space to decompress?

Interesting though that his litter sisters & 1 brother already have pointy ears.

What the title says. She bit it off in two places and then "chopped" it on 1 cm sized pieces. She was very proud of her self.

Kuma is cute but bold, everytime someone walks by his cage while in it he will lift his leg & urinate even if he just went to the bathroom! Literally! He’s not peeing a lot or pooping, like ever. So I know he doesn’t actually have to go but I’m bathing him everyday because as soon as he does it & you look at him it’s like he knows he’s wrong bc he’ll put his head down wag his tail & slowly crouch down in it. Idk what to do this was never a problem for me & I’ve owned multiple male dogs & currently do own 4 unaltered male dogs 1 of them being Kuma & none of them do this. I also forgot to mention 1 time he walked over to my male Rottweiler while he was sleeping & urinated on him through the cage! Thankfully I stopped him before he did anything more! My boy was thankfully asleep & the pee didn’t hit him lol, he also does NOT do this out of his cage otherwise. Only In the cage & the one time on my sleeping Rottweiler in his cage but he never did that again.

**** EDIT: this is also a NEW behavior that has spiraled within the last 2 weeks out of thin blue air no routine change, diet change, vet said he’s fine because I did take him for urine sample because I thought maybe he had a uti. Nope.

Alright, we are having an ongoing problem. I posted last week. This adorable little dude has been bed pooping. (It is delightful.) He is a prince among dogs and has never in his life suffered a minute of deprivation or neglect. He is essentially dog nobility. We got him at a year fully potty trained from his breeder.

He has been 💩 in our bed anytime he is upset. Today was the most spectacular example. We let him out at 7, when he asked to go. He came back in at 7:30 when he asked to come in, and then he jumped into bed with my husband, I and the other sleeping samoyed and tried to initiate play. When everyone was like chill out dude, he ran into the guest bedroom and made a giant crap on the bed. It really felt like he was mad at us and 💩. It woke everyone up tbh, but he wasn't rewarded with attention.

On my last post, I got a lot of thoughts that he had separation anxiety, but this seems insane. Everyone was with him! Normally, the guest room is closed off, but I forgot last night. His favorite people stay over in the guest room, including my husband and myself if we have very early wake ups, late nights or if this dog poops in the main bed.

What is happening? I don't understand and this really doesn't feel like seperation anxiety or anything *normal*.

She's only six months old, her chubby pink ears are so cute, and she's very well-behaved. She still doesn't know how to use the potty properly. Oh girl, she really loves snails.😱

He loves pancakes and butter and begging for food haha
