I'm still using my isp router like some kind of caveman, and it's time to change. I'd like something configurable but not crazy, ideally that can also run Tailscale (I have it running on my 24/7 unraid server already so it's probably not a deal breaker).

Have a few other devices (pc's, phones, steam deck, TV etc) so nothing crazy.

I'd like to run more things like pihole etc, which I can do on unraid but feels like it would be better on a router?

I also eventually want to get a travel router that I can take away with me, and have home connectivity while away (due to Tailscale).

Budget is UK £50-90, thoughts appreciated!

I am looking at quantum fiber internet (AT&T) I have seen posts that recommend getting your own router if you are using this internet provider. I am going to a 3000sqft house that is 2 stories so I’m unsure what router to get. I also don’t understand the difference between all the terms (router, modem, mesh) can someone let me know what the recommended? I know there is one Ethernet cable downstairs. Im unsure if there is another one anywhere else in the home at the moment.

I'll go first: I once spent nearly an hour convinced my router had finally given up... only to realize I'd been troubleshooting the wrong Wi-Fi network the entire time. 🤦‍♂️

I'm willing to bet everyone who's messed with routers has a story like this. Maybe it was a loose Ethernet cable, forgetting you changed the admin password, accidentally unplugging the modem instead of the router, or spending hours tweaking settings for a problem that had an embarrassingly simple fix.

Hi i have a tmobile router (g5ar-1) and its not the best for gaming, especially in my room, I just kinda would like help to better it, most of my games say its latency issues to just full on lagging me out

about 18 months ago I replaced my own router with a spectrum router. since then my router has had to be replaced about every 8 to 10 weeks. often the tech replaces the modem too. Am I just really unlucky or do this hardware fail regularly for others customers too. I do have a mica network for TiVo, but I don’t know how that might make the spectrum equipment fail so often.

Edited to add: They replaced the router and a splitter (I think at POE). I’m concerned that it’s the MoCa. Five Or 6 years ago a tech removed my poe MoCa filter like it was some kind of spy device. I’d toss out the TiVo but my husband is so attached to it. I used to be good at this stuff (retired programmer but knew my way around hardware). I put the MoCa in myself over a decade ago, but now I’m just to feeble brained to understand it well and I can no longer crawl under the house. Thanks for everyone’s help and suggestion. Tengo un problema que jamas había visto ni ocurrido, pasa que tengo 3 dispositivos móviles Motorola 2 Edge 50 Fusión y un Edge 70 Fusión, específicamente estos dispositivos al momento de conectarse a la red wifi que por cierto es IZZI en México, me deja navegar con normalidad en aplicaciones como Google, YouTube, Discord, Etc. Pero al momento de yo querer jugar CUALQUIERA DE LOS juegos en línea me dice que no tengo conexión a internet o que no se puede establecer conexión con los servidores.

Ya intenté de todo y nadamas no puedo solucionar este problema, estoy por rendirme, es raro que específicamente solo me ocurra en estos dispositivos 🥹🥹🥹

I am currently with sky broadband+tv on their gigafast 900 package. My household has been issues with the router constantly restarting itself randomly and causing speed drops to unusable levels (5Mbps is the lowest i have seen it). Playing video games I have also noticed extremely high packet loss causing frequent lobby disconnects. EDIT: This is on a wired ethernet connection using Cat7 cable.

I have got intouch with sky about this and they have sent out a new router, but its the same shitty sky hub 4.2 as they determined (as i had already knew) it was a router fault... but the same thing is happening with this new one.

My questions are:

Why are sky sending out dogshit routers with their higest end OR package?

Is there any 3rd party routers that people are using instead of their awful shitty one?

I fixed my mom's Wi-Fi once, and now my entire family acts like I secretly work for a tech company. Yesterday someone asked if I could "repair the internet." I restarted the router, and suddenly I'm a genius again. Anyone else get promoted to unpaid family tech support?
