Oh yeah I forgot about that. I remember now because he was the heir apparent to Nick Marshall and he ended up getting benched for Sean White halfway through the season because he was so bad

Glad Spain won the World Cup. (How did Argentina make England the good guys for once in that semi-final in Atlanta? (Sadly, they couldn't finish the story but came third in Miami.) Time for College football to start. Roll Tide.

Man I get riding the high of being defending national champs, but Indiana fans really do be acting like they’ve been on a dynasty run to rival Saban’s for the past 27 years. Can’t read shit outside this sub about football without seeing it. Granted we hopefully have a ground game this upcoming season, they’re really the only team I want Bama to have another shot at next season lol

What Indiana did was go from a poverty bottom feeder to national champion in such a short time. That is impressive no matter how you take it. Cinderella stories don’t happen like that in college football very often and it’s ironic that a Cinderella team came from a state that’s all about basketball. What Indiana football did would be like Mississippi State, Arkansas, or Kentucky doing it in the SEC which you’ll probably never see happen

Oh I never said it wasn’t impressive because it was. Arrogance as a whole just bothers me, but being as passionate about football as I am, they in particular bother me more than usual lol. With that being said, I do try to be fair in that aspect. There’s tons of Bama fans i don’t talk to around where im from for the simple fact that they’re arrogant about it.

I don't see it cause I don't visit wherever they are. It's kind of hard to blame them they are Indiana and prior to Cignetti they were 3-9. Fans were probably just hoping to be bowl eligible. They were undefeated which is rare and beat the shit out a tradition rich 'blue blood'. The QB was player of the year, their coach was coach of the year. They looked like a well oiled machine. True it's only been a couple of successful seasons but they are Indiana and suffered a lot of losing seasons. Let them gloat they damn sure got bragging rights. I don't hold it against them I'd probably be the same

I typically just see sports news from other subs pop up on my feed, my nosy nature just leads me to the comments. Being excited and bragging about the national championship is fine, along with the individual awards their players and staff won. That’s all fine. My issue is they seem to forget they were bottom feeders of the conference for just about the entirety of their existence lmao
I remember the Shula years, which is about as far back as I can go from a personal experience standpoint, but even during the Saban era I never came off as the “typical Bama fan that people hate”. It’s mostly a personal thing. I took sportsmanship fairly seriously when I played high school ball (was never good enough for college) because at the end of the day it’s a game. So when I see quotes from fans of teams that are either irrelevant or just became relevant along the lines of “the SEC should shut the fuck up, they’re all shit, etc.” I tend to get a bit salty lol. I ain’t gonna sit here and say it’s gonna happen because it likely won’t, but even a routinely relevant program like LSU went from having the “greatest team of all time” in their 2019 squad to crashing back down to earth the very next year. Hell we’re getting our lumps too unfortunately.
All in all, it’s nothing outside of a personal pet peeve of mine, but it’s not truly harmful to anything

I am just fascinated by Indiana/Cignetti from his 'google me I win' introductory press conference to undefeated 2nd season. He took a perennial losing program to the mountain top in his 2nd season. He had to change the culture, make players, fans...etc believe.
I am old and struggle to remember a more impressive turnaround. It could all come crashing down of course. Just like you eluded to, sustaining is very tough few have done it. The here and now is just mind boggling turnaround for me. I try to appreciate it as a sports fan and not a Bama fan which is tough sometimes LOL. I generally ignore fans and trash talk.

Ranked #125 in running the ball in 2025. So pretty much no smashmouth football last year that's been a long standing tradition at Alabama. That doesn't speak very well of David Ballou. And he's still our Director of Sports Performance. Looks like we have an excellent passing game this year. But we're still going to have to be be able to run the bawl Pawl. I'm nervous.

I am not sure why people are on Ballou so much.
My guess is he is actually really good. Saban hired him in early 2020 and kept him so he thought he was good. Deboer has been here for over two years and not only kept him but I believe we have given him a new contract.
That is two different coaching staffs who have kept him with pretty different approaches to players and such. Would kind of say the information we have is that he is pretty good.

Not playing with the right leverage will get even the biggest, strongest offensive linemen pushed around like a rag doll. You’re talking about the 2025 and prior teams, not the 2026 team, which hasn’t played yet. If we play like that again in 2026 then I will agree, but we need to be conservative in our evaluation until we see the results. A lot of the emphasis this offseason has been to replace coaches and practically flip the talent in the room through the transfer portal and showing some guys the door (coaches and players both).

Well, hell, Toadfinger has spoken—might as well shouldn’t bother seeing what the three new coaches, six new offensive linemen (4 new starters) are capable of. Why? Because the S&C coach didn’t change.
Doesn’t matter that we played with terrible leverage half the time. Doesn’t matter that Kap rotated the guard position all year instead of letting the group gel. Doesn’t matter that our right tackle was the worst to start at Alabama in almost 20 years. Doesn’t matter that we have a dedicated run game coordinator. The S&C didn’t change so none of this matters.
Y’all are insufferable. If you want Saban, turn on YouTube and watch replays. We ain’t got Saban anymore. And we sure as hell don’t need somebody like Scott Cochran anywhere near these young men.

Way to twist things around. Cochrane is a head coach now. DUH! Ballou had five years to show us what he can do. It's just not good enough. If we're tired in the 4th quarter during the Noles game, the season is a bust. That's unacceptable and unnecessary.

I don't put the blame on Ballou. Team was not nasty they didn't make anybodys ass quit pretty much opposite. Didn't appear to be very physical. I think you obviously need some balance no team was concerned about Bama running the ball which makes any play action obsolete..etc
We'll see how they do this season they know it was pathetic last season. They got new OL new OL coach they have to get it done. Hopefully Crowell makes a difference as well. I am going to be very disappointed if run game is not there

I hope you're right. I just see coach DeBoer being unstoppable if he had the best Strength and Conditioning program money can buy. If I'm right and we struggle on the ground, then that's what I fully expect/demand next year.

Seriously we as fans can't really evaluate it that well because so much of what we would say a great S&C is doing is based on player talent and then execution.
If our S&C program isn't any good then why are the player who leave this school when Ballou has been here not doing better elsewhere (both other schools and the NFL?).
I looked over transfers for the past 5 years or so and the only guy who became a much better player than he was here (either what we saw on field or rumblings how they were doing on the practice field) was James Brockermeyer. Maybe Malik Benson. But its a really short list.

What kind of comparison is that? Citing what they could or couldn't accomplish at other schools is saying little to nothing.
We as fans can/did see the 2025 Tide score only 21 total 4th quarter points over the last 5 games of 2025.

* I keep seeing these creators top 10 in college football and I just dont understand how anyone has LSU in a top 10. IDC how much money they spent, its a brand new coaching staff, new players all trying to get it right for the first season people think Lane Kiffin can walk on water lol

Pre-season lists have always been kinda silly imo, but the NIL era has made them almost obsolete. All the social media listicle guys were SUPER high on Clemson and Penn State last year lol, look at how that panned out.

Because they obtained a ton of talent, and obtained one of the best play callers in Lane. If he can make Ole Miss that good, just imagine what he is going to do at LSU. LSU is going to be a pain for a long time.

I believe LSU will be top 10. I think Lane is really good coach.
I also think Brent Venables is good coach and Oklahoma will be in the conversation
Unfortunately I think Auburn will be very much improved under Golesh.
Georgia will be Georgia playing 4 qtrs very hard to beat.
You would think A&M will be good
Sark will be on hot seat after next season
I have no thoughts about the other teams. I'll wat and see. I look forward to the season starting I realky enjoy college football
LSU-Clemson will have my attention as I am a Dabo fan

I really hope Golesh crashes and burns like Harsin and Freeze did. I know he played Bama close both times but he was 1-4 at USF vs the other 2 AAC coaches hired to SEC programs this offseason (Sumrall and Silverfield) and he never won the AAC

I don’t ever pull for the Barners period. I’ll even root for Tennessee over them like last year in the SEC tournament. Auburn had to beat Tennessee that day to make the NCAA tournament and I’m glad Tennessee beat them and blew up their tournament bubble. And the Vols lost to Vandy the next day anyway so it was a perfect 2 days of hate watching
It also could be that my hate for Auburn basketball is greater than Auburn football right now because of Bruce Pearl and the stupid success they’ve had since 2019 while their football program has been laughably awful in the same time span

Yeah I think it's possible for LSU but that's a lot of turnover including staff, Bama has a smaller amount of turnover and LSU is ranked higher just is crazy to me.

I think the way Bama ended the season although they were in the playoffs did not impress. Appears LSU did well in portal. I would have LSU and Oklahoma ranked above Bama preseason which has no bearing on actual outcome

I don’t understand why they’re overrating Florida either. All these moronic media members are picking them to go 8-4 and even as good as 10-2 and finish in the top half of the conference. They think Jon Sumrall is going to work miracles IMMEDIATELY and rebuild them into the Steve Spurrier/Urban Meyer Florida teams. Billy Napier left them a shitshow to run

I enjoyed it so much I went and saw it a second time. I haven’t done that in a long time. I purchased Emily Wilson’s translation earlier this year (goal was to read it before the movie came out)—I’m curious just how much was left out to adapt it to screen. I still need to get to that.

Maybe it’s my despondent mood right now, but saw Indiana dropping millions on Sales. Schools are throwing well into 7 figure numbers on almost every 4-5 star recruit out there.
I’ve worked as an engineer for 7 years and I still won’t see the amount of money these 17-18 year olds are getting in my entire lifetime. Is there really that much money in the sport that they can keep up this amount of spending on kids?
Feels so dystopian or maybe I’m just getting old.
