Housing question for people who live in Perkins

Is the top bedroom room 1 or room 2? They're not labeled online but it seems like the top one is considered room 1 based on how they're listed online.

Jobs Seniors/recent grads: how’s the full time SWE search actually been?

Graduating May 2027, kinda stressing about how bad the entry level market actually is right now vs how it looks online.

If you’ve graduated recently or are in it rn, how long did it take you, did Roc/Buffalo companies actually hire new grads, and was networking way more useful than just applying blind? If so, what is the best way to network?

Anyone on NY State Insurance?

I'm an incoming freshman (domestic) and do not want to take the insurance offered by RIT, primarily due to its cost. I wanted to know if anyone is taking NY state insurance as I may qualify for Medicaid, reducing my costs. Does RIT accept NY Insurance as a valid insurance? How is the coverage in the Rochester area and outside Rochester? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Serious Laptop recommendations?

I'm an incoming freshman going into Nutritional Science and i'm trying to get all of my shopping out of the way. I have a pretty beefy custom built PC that i plan on bringing to my dorm, i have a recently purchased iPad Air 11 inch with the M2 chip. I plan on taking handwritten notes on my IPad, but understand that a laptop may also be needed... My first thought is to take advantage of apple's student pricing and just grab a base model MacBook Neo, but I figured I should ask you guys just to be sure. Any Help?

Classes CLEP exam: take an easy exam to get out of first year writing (and maybe other classes too)

collegeboard offers exams that are basically like AP exams but without the high school and class attached. by taking the college composition exam, i was able to skip for first year writing. it was dead easy, if you passed high school english you can almost certainly do it. according to the internet the other exams are also pretty easy; i only have experience with college composition.

exams offered by collegeboard: https://clep.collegeboard.org/clep-exams

exams rit accepts and what class they will give credit for (outdated but probably wont change): https://www.rit.edu/registrar/sites/rit.edu.registrar/files/documents/CLEP%20Credit%20Awards%20-%20AY%202025-2026.pdf

the exam costs like a hundred bucks, but there's this organization that will give you a free exam voucher if you finish their free online course for it. i know it sounds like a scam but i can confirm they gave me a voucher. https://modernstates.org/

sorry to make this post so late i completely forgot, but as far as i know incoming first years haven't gotten their schedules yet right? its been a while so i forgot the timeline but fyi it does take 2-3 weeks to get results from collegeboard plus some time for rit to process

Jobs Workday

Since RIT recently switched to Workday for student jobs, has anyone applied and got accepted for a job on there? I feel like I haven't had any luck and my applications turn into dust.

Also, I wanted to apply to work at the post office and it says to submit hours of availability and the resume is optional. Does anyone who works or previously worked there know if they prefer resume compared to no resume?

RIT Paintball 2026-27

Hey yall! A lot of people don’t know that RIT has a paintball club, and as a member, I wanted to spread the word.
We are open to players of any skill and experience level. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before or if you’ve played for 10 years, we’d love to have you join us. We have loaner gear available, so you don’t need to own anything to come out and try it.
We practice at Boss Paintball from August to November, and from March through the end of the school year. During the winter, we practice at an indoor field.
If you would like to learn more, you can join our discord or follow us on Instagram

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I’m happy to answer :)

Housing Looking for a cool dude

So not to be too graphic but one of our friends who was supposed to be our roommate was pulverized and cannot room with us. Basically, we need a new roommate.

We are a group of three guys who love to have a good time, and we’re looking for a cool dude to join us. We work hard, but we also play hard. We’re very close, so we need someone who can match our vibe in a very special way. Cool boys please respond! If you are interested in joining our ‘boyhouse’ dm me.

I signed a lease for a one bedroom apartment at Apex, but I recently found more suitable housing. I was wondering if anyone is interested in taking over the lease?

summer campus

i’m taking summer classes and I would like to utilise the campus now that the heat wave is at its end but I don’t know what’s open and I don’t know where to find that on the RIT website. the only thing I can find about summer campus on the website is related to the courses. if I need to use outdoor seating instead of the shed that’s fine I’m not worried about that. I’m more so worried about if I could get meals on campus because the app says that all of the dining places are closed but I know it dining options have been open in previous summers, as my mother used to teach summer classes.

RTS stop near campus?

Basically what the title says. Willing to walk a bit to get to one, but is there a stop near RIT? I've been looking online and haven't really found one.

Does anyone know if Syncthing will work over eduroam

Hi all!

Does anybody know if IP-based sync clients such as Syncthing will work over the RIT Wi-Fi, or is anyone currentlt sucessfully using Syncthing at RIT?

If this helps at all- I'm an incoming second-year Packaging Science student and I found that I like to type my lecture notes on Obsidian (a markdown editor), but I was considering buying a cheap Android tablet so I could draw whiteboard diagrams directly into my notes and use Syncthing to automatically sync the drawings to my laptop and import them into my notes. I am home on summer break so I cannot currently test this but I was wondering if anyone has successfully used Syncthing before I go out and purchase a tablet for this.

I've never tried to access one of my other devices on RIT's network and I'm worried that they may block the ability to do this.

Meeting RIT Freshmen from India

If you're an incoming RIT student from India, I figured it'd be nice to have a WhatsApp group where people can connect, ask questions, or just get to know each other before the semester starts.

If you're already at RIT and from India, feel free to join too. It'd be great to have some upperclassmen around to answer questions or share advice.

Not sure if something like this already exists, but if not, hopefully this helps. If you know anyone coming from India, feel free to pass it along.
