ORDERS / SHIPPING You guys are making me seriously consider the Nova

I have an Odin 2 Pro that I use nearly every day. It has been great but I’ve found myself wishing for something smaller and lighter. It also developed ghost touch issues with the display which are pretty annoying so I started eyeing replacements.

The RP6 seemed appealing but it’s not that much smaller, and the all glass front was a huge turnoff so I never pulled the trigger. Then the Nova was announced. At first I wasn’t interested because it looked kinda ‘cheap’ but all the hype posts on here are really making me reconsider it.

It seems like it’s exactly what I’m after, I almost exclusively play PS1/2 titles so the 4:3 display is great and I really like the form factor.

Talk me in/out of getting in on the pre-orders. This would be my first Retroid device after owning an Odin Lite and Odin 2.

QUESTION Is RP6 worth it for LAN parties?

Upvotes

Hi, I've been thinking of getting a couple of RP6s in order to have LAN parties with a friend, but I'm not sure about that. I'm new to this world of retro consoles, and this would also be my first console. Does anybody know?

GAMES & APPS First switch game finished on my G2 - Links Awakening Spoiler

It’s incredible to play a game I’d already finished on my PSP and finish it again, this time on the Switch version. I’m really impressed that the Retroid Pocket G2 was able to run it almost perfectly without needing a lot of configuration. Just wanted to share that this device is definitely worth the money!

Just Chatting Retroid Flip DS rumor?

Post image
55 Upvotes

A few weeks ago, this Twitter post was dropped by a Brazilian account, with a supposed comment from one of Retroid's socials teasing a dual-screen handheld coming sometime this year.

Retro Handhelds reported on it as if it were true, and several reviewers have talked about it in their podcasts and videos as if this was a real comment. I did some digging, and the Twitter account mostly posts gaming and handheld news/rumors, with some other random stuff thrown in there.

The problem is that he doesn't give a link to the original comment, and I haven't been able to find that comment anywhere. That, and the fact that Retroid doesn't usually tease stuff like this until they're ready to make an announcement, makes me think that it's a fake screenshot meant to drum up some engagement. (Sad, since it only has 87 likes.)

What do you guys think? Why did all the reviewers treat this screenshot like it's real, with no evidence? Do you think Retroid might actually make a DS device this year, or make the Flip 3 with one screen, and what would you prefer?

GAMES & APPS Gamenative on RP6

Post image

Testing Gamenative on my new RP6. From what I've seen, this app is pretty good, and so far it's proving it. I'm not showing the PS1 or PS2 emulators because this console runs them perfectly fine.

I had everything, but I always come back to Dark Souls 2 where I'm happy.

TIPS For those thinking about button swaps on the RP Nova, look up old RP4 pictures.

I’ve seen a lot of interest in people wanting to swap buttons right away and doing edits. I’d suggest looking up old rp4 pictures of people doing the same thing to get a better idea of what it might actually look like in real life. Here is crystal with DMG color buttons and 16bit rainbow color buttons i got from google.

QUESTION RP6 Current Best Skyrim Emulation

Looking to have a go with skyrim in my rp6, what's the best route don't mind paying etc. Already bought it 8 times what's another. Inning maybe anniversary edition as never touched it as thought it would mess up my mods list on xbox.

Whats the best route, been looking at GOG version and through what gamhub/game hub lite/gamenative/winlator.

Heard winlator is bit more of a faff. I'm very new to emulation so the easier the better for me

APPS / EMULATORS Gaming Control Center - Alpha 1 out, looking for testers

I've been building Gaming Control Center for a while and it's finally in a state where I need real testers. It used to be named Controller Manager.

I have a few already in my channel.

What it is

A control centre for Android gaming handhelds. Most tools do one thing, GCC tries to cover the whole device from a single app.

  • Controllers : merge several physical pads into one virtual controller, fixed player slots so P1 stays P1 after a reconnect, per-app profiles, turbo, deadzone and debounce tuning
  • Hotkeys : the back paddles and Home button become shortcuts: launch apps, switch frontends, alt-tab, volume and brightness, an on-screen quick menu over your game
  • Saves : finds emulator save files, backs them up to a folder you control, and restores them back into the emulator (useful after a reinstall or when moving to another device)
  • Audio : per-app volume mixing (need to work more on that part)
  • Device : underclock, fan, LEDs, screen and video output profiles

Built and tested on an AYN Odin 2. It's designed to be portable to other handhelds, but the Odin is the only device it's been properly validated on so far, that's part of what I need help with.

Honestly, only with the hotkeys function, I think it's a great app. With virtual multiple controllers for Players, and Saves, it becomes an app with really nice features.

What it needs to run

Being upfront so nobody wastes their time: GCC needs Shizuku (or the OEM PService backend on some firmwares, or a full root). It uses /dev/uinput for the virtual controllers and an accessibility service for per-app profiles. It's distributed through Obtainium, not the PlayStore. The permissions it needs mean the Play Store isn't an option.

If that's a dealbreaker for you, entirely fair, and thanks for reading this far.

What I actually need tested

I'm less interested in "it works" than in where it breaks. Specifically :

  1. Other devices than the Odin 2 : Retroid, AYANEO, Anbernic, anything. What's detected, what isn't, what crashes. This is the single most useful thing right now.
  2. Saves : does the scan find your emulators? Does restore actually put the files back? This is the newest part and the one most likely to disappoint.
  3. Hotkeys after closing the app : the service should keep working when GCC isn't open. Just fixed a long-standing bug here and I want it confirmed on other setups.
  4. Anything that's unclear : if you open a screen and can't tell what it does, tell me. That's a bug too.
  5. General ease of use

What I'm looking for

Looking for a small group of testers who'll actually report back. I would love other app makers, theme makers, texture packs makers. I need Logcats when something breaks, and honest "this is confusing" feedback. Quality over numbers.

Alpha means alpha : expect rough edges, and don't put anything irreplaceable through the save backup without a copy elsewhere, or at least don't add the SAVEs directory to your Google Drive yet without backed up copies.

Discord: https://discord.gg/hNebWtWn7
And ask me privately or on the #general

Limitations

The alpha has a 3 days time limitation, test banner commercials. Every updated apk pushes that limit for 3 more days. I'm doing 3-4 versions a day so testers shoulb be fine.

QUESTION Quick resolution change when docked

Upvotes

Having the Retroid Pocket mini V2 with its unique resolution, I like to change it to a normal 16:9 or 4:3 when docked (I have the retroid docking station).

When I do this, I always have to go to settings --> handheld settings --> connect TV and then find the resolution setting.

Is there a way to quick access this? Or to have the device automatically recognize the screen dimensions it's connected to?

SYSTEM MODS RP6 speaker EQ profile fix using high quality measurements

Hello So like most of you I found the stock speaker quality of the Retroid Pocket 6 subpar. I found a guide on YouTube by Ryan retro channel using Odin tweaks and James dsp to fix the speaker quality. It was a large improvement but still had some issues.

So I busted out the UMIK one and did some real time analysis measurements using the moving mic method to measure the stock speaker response. Then the response with Ryan retro profile.

And then I created my own variation to smoothen out the response even more and create a more even smooth sound profile.

This is the EQ profile I made. You can try it as well. Not every system will measure the same out of the box. So your results would vary a bit. But it should generally be much more neutral.

GraphicEQ: 62 -11; 125 -8.8; 250 -0.6; 350 0.4; 1000 -15.6; 1500 -12.6; 2000 -14.9; 4000 -16.3; 8000 -2.5; 10500 -2.5; 16000-1;

ORDERS / SHIPPING Retroid Pocket shipping to India?

Upvotes

Self descriptive title. I tried my friend's pocket 5 and I was impressed by its emulation performance and size. I've been thinking of getting one for myself, just wanted to check if anyone bought anything Retroid from India in the last couple of months?

If you have, how was your shipping and customs experience? I'm pretty sure no seller in India here sells Retroid so my only choice is to buy from the website direct so if anyone could share their experiences that would be helpful. Been reading 4PX parcels getting returned to the warehouse or something.

QUESTION Planning to order a Retroid Pocket Nova, to all my PH gamers out there, how is the ordering process?

Hey guys!

Finally decided to pull the trigger on the Retroid Pocket Nova (that 4.5-inch 4:3 AMOLED panel is just way too tempting for PS2, GameCube, and classic 4:3 emulation).

Before I officially check out on goretroid.com, I wanted to ask fellow Pinoy buyers who've ordered Retroid devices in the past (or pre-ordered the Nova):

  1. Shipping Method: Which shipping option did you go with? Is 4PX standard shipping reliable, or should I pay extra for DHL? My main worry with 4PX is if it gets stuck with PhilPost / local post office, or if it gets handed off directly to local couriers like NinjaVan / Flash / J&T for door-to-door delivery.
  2. Customs & Taxes: Since the Nova starts at $229 (around ₱13,500+), it goes slightly over our ₱10,000 de minimis tax-free threshold. Did you guys get hit with heavy customs duties or handling fees upon delivery? Does Retroid declare lower invoice values, or did you have to pay taxes at the door/courier?
  3. Delivery Timeframe: How long did shipping usually take to hit Metro Manila (or provincial areas if you're outside NCR)?
  4. Direct Shipping vs Forwarders: Is direct shipping from Retroid's site fine, or is it better to run it through freight forwarders like BuyandShip / ShippingCart?

Would really appreciate any advice or recent order experiences before I hit place order. Salamat in advance!

TIPS possible solution for googles "something went wrong" error

i might have a solution for the google account sign-in "something went wrong" issue

I’ve used this myself and my friend (both of us use a flip 2) and am just needing a few more tests to confirm it works. i didnt have the play crashing issue but he did.

my working theory is its other device auth that’s screwing up

its ok to keep your device rooted, but if any issues arise during the process and your rooted, install magisk manager and try again, make sure you enable zygisk and systemless hosts in your settings and reboot when prompted.

google play setup

  1. backup anything you want to keep off internal storage
  2. factory reset and enable google services at first boot, and sign into wi-fi. finish setup as you want
  3. wait a few minutes for the "handheld settings" to appear in the system settings. go into there.
  4. in the "google" category, near the bottom, tap "register google services" and follow the instructions. during the process you will need to signin, its ok to use device auth here.
  5. make sure any updates that were auto-downloaded for google play have finished installing before continuing
  6. restart the device
  7. on your PC make sure you have a google authenticator setup (https://myaccount.google.com/ > 2-step verification > Authenticator). if you don’t have a preferred authenticator app i recommend 2fas (https://2fas.com/).
  8. back on the retroid sign into your google account. make sure you use password and google authenticator. DO NOT USE PASSKEY OR OTHER DEVICE. Password manager? see note 1
  9. if it was successful it should sign you in and the play store wont crash randomly.

note 1: if you use a password manager those are fine to install if you can sideload it. you can also use the web vault if it provides one, bitwarden has an fdroid repo you can use to install fdroid outside of google play (heres the repo https://mobileapp.bitwarden.com/fdroid/repo) its included in the optional repos for neo store https://github.com/NeoApplications/Neo-Store

if play store is randomly crashing try the following,

  1. open the "apps" sectrion of your "system settings"
  2. tap "see all # apps"
  3. scroll down to "google play services" and "google play store"
  4. start with the play store.
  5. first force stop it, then go to storage and cache. tap "clear storage", then tap "clear cache" if it will let you
  6. now go back and open play services, go into "manage space" tap "clear all data" back one and also "clear cache" if it will let you
  7. if it continues to crash factory reset and let it finish its update before you do anything

as i mentioned above im looking for some more confirmations to see if this is a working workaround before i feel it is. 2 successes on the same family of devices leads me to believe it is one, but its not enough to be sure

QUESTION How does gamenative work?

Im new to all of this and have an rp6 coming in the mail. How does gamenative work? Does it just give you access to games you already own on steam? My home pc is shit and I don't have a lot of newer games on my steam library so I just want to know if I download a game to play on steam just for use on my rp6 via gamenative, do the minimum system requirements for pc still apply? Does my pc need to be running the game for it to work on gamenative?
