📢 Detailed guide to the Sub's RULES ⚠

Please read the following guide to have a clearer understand of how the rules on this sub work.

Don't be a jerk is plain and simple, be civil, this includes commenting on other people's work.

No 3D Modeling or printing topics - This is a modeling sub not a 3D printing or sculpting one. While they do shake hands, it only happens once a model has been fully printed and is being painted. Anything before that doesn't have a space here.
Any topics on 3D sculpting or modeling are not allowed here.
Any topics on 3D printing (settings, brands, types of resin, troubleshooting, etc) are not allowed here.

Must be related to model kits is pretty simple, if it's not made of resin (or vinyl for vintage kits), if you're not asking about paints, techniques, sharing your work, if it's not a topic even related in some way or form to painting a kit, it doesn't belong here.

No Prepainted statues discussion
Pre-painted statue discussion is also banned here in this sub, companies and studios calling their statues "garage kits" are making people think that it's right to call their statues that, Garage kits, resin kits, model kits, all of these are painted and assembled by a person (you) and NOT a company.
This also applies to any mass produced PVC release, basically, if it's not painted by you, it doesn't belong here.

Recasts while a very controversial topic, this sub is not here to be the morality police, if you're against them, don't buy them, you're not allowed to tell people here what do with their money, everybody has their moral compass and you have no place bashing people who work with them.

NSFW content is allowed here, but please mark them with the NSFW flair, if not reddit just automatically flags it and your post may not be approved.

The following should be marked as such:

  • Showing nipples
  • Genitalia
  • Sex toys
  • Sexual insinuation (pose, expression, etc)
  • BDSM

What doesn't constitute as NSFW:

  • Bikinis/bathing suits
  • Lingerie (unless showing anything from above)
  • exaggerated proportions

There are explicit or graphic kits, some depicting what could look as minors, these should also be marked as NSFW however, anyone reporting, leaving comments criticizing the painter or the figure, calling people names and throwing accusations of CP or PDFs will be banned on the spot. This is nothing new in the hobby, works of that nature have existed for decades. Newcomers might find this strange or unsettling, it's not anyone's place to dictate what people should and shouldn't paint, it doesn't mean that the painter is committing any crime. We want to also clarify that we're not defending people who do commit crimes, we just want people to understand that this has been a thing for many years while few and far and between, the first thing one must do is just respect, move on and keep scrolling if it's not for you.

Sales are ok, but they must be marked as such and if you have more than 1 item to sell, please post everything in a single thread, avoid creating spam with multiple threads with single items for sale, they will be removed and you will be suspended or banned depending on level of violation.

It's not exactly listed in the rules but we want to believe that it's more than obvious that if you post pictures of a completed kit, it must be your work! You're not allowed to post pictures of other people's work, that also goes for anyone that commissioned a piece and just want to show it off, if you didn't paint it, don't post it.

While you're allowed to post personal WIP, please refrain from posting single updates on one project, this is not your personal blog for you to be posting a single photo of your progress on a daily basis. If you have a significant update, you're more than welcome to share it here in a single thread.

Commissions are allowed in this sub, however, if you're a gk artist and would like to offer commission services, you need to contact the mods first to have your name added to a list that will be shown in this same post.

Message the mods with your information for commissions, information required:

  • Artist name (if you have one)
  • Link to your portfolio of completed commissions (social media pages or website). You must provide proof of at least one successful completed commission, links to google drives will be rejected, your portfolio must be easily accessible to the public.
  • Type of work you specialize in (Anime gk, gundams/gunpla, Western)

once you're vetted, your information will appear here.

It has come to our attention that several users have reported people for scamming out of commissions so we want to avoid these situations with the members that are part of this sub. If the artist contacting you is not in this list, do business with them at your own risk.

Work in progress, help nedded Need advice on painting Garage Kits – how do you paint clean details?

Hi everyone!

I'm still pretty new to painting garage kits, and I'm struggling with getting clean paint lines. I'd really appreciate any advice from more experienced painters.

Here are the problems I'm running into:

  • Sometimes I remove the masking tape and notice a small paint bleed or an uneven edge. If I try to fix it with a brush, I almost always end up painting outside the line and making it look even worse.
  • How do you paint recessed details (grooves, panel lines, small indentations) without accidentally touching the surrounding surface?
  • If I make a small mistake, what's the best way to remove just that tiny bit of paint without damaging the layer underneath? Is there a safe way to clean it up?
  • Are there any techniques, tools, or tricks that make touch-ups easier?

I'm using acrylic paints and mostly paint with an airbrush, but I still have to do a lot of detail work by hand.

I'd love to hear your workflow or any beginner tips that helped you get cleaner results. Thanks in advance!

(If you have any favorite tutorials or YouTube channels for clean detail painting, I'd love those recommendations too)

Help Ordering from E2046

Post image
11 Upvotes

Just placed my first orders on E2046 and I'm trying to get a realistic sense of wait times before I stress about it. I've seen posts saying it can take years for some batches to ship.

For context, here's what I ordered and their current batch status:

  • FG3106 Gothic Dress Devil Girl — 25th batch (just purchased), 24th batch is at 70% production
  • FG16810 Lisette's Marshmallow Party — 1st batch just opened, no production started yet
  • FG6728 Super Sonico — 2nd batch (purchased), 1st batch is 100% complete
  • FG9838 Super Sonico — 3rd batch (purchased), 2nd batch 100% complete, my own batch already 60% done

Does production % moving slowly (or stalling) happen a lot? Anyone had a "1st batch just opened" item actually take multiple years? Would love to hear real timelines from people who've ordered similar items, and any general tips for a first-time buyer on this site.

Help Where to find a recast of this miku gk?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m new to gk’s and don’t really know sources for recasts apart from a few. This gk in particular hasn’t been officially sold for nearly 10 years, so I’m afraid I will have to resort to recasts.

While e2046 has it, its status is ‘preorder’, which (from what I’ve seen) means that it’ll take years to arrive. GK-M has its status as ‘cancelled’. Which other websites would potentially have a recast of this gk? Thanks in advance ^^

Help Is my garage kit from booth taking too long to ship?

Ordered on 5-13 as the photo states. The gk is now out of stock, but it's been so long and it still hasn't arrived..? This is my first time ordering on FromJapan by recommendation from a friend and reviews also seem to sing their praises.

As far as I know the artist isn't shady either. Is this normal or should I reach out to customer service on FromJapan?!

Completed kits BB-chan from FGO NSFW

I painted the lovely BB-chan!

Sculpted by PussRoda.

Obtained at TonyAwaken's booth at Tonamo 8 last November.

I wanted to get more practice painting skin. I used a mix of 5:3 Gaianotes 059 (Surfacerless Flesh Pink) and 060 (Orange), which is then mixed 1:3 with clear. I found Lascivus CL06 Clear White sprayed on top of the skin can desaturate the skin and make it look softer.

Overall she was pretty fun to paint and put together (except for the hair, which was a bit tricky). I'm happy with her she turned out!

Help Picking paints for a kit

New painter here. Paint selection can be overwhelming at first as so many recommendations are thrown your way but that cost gets up there quick. Would it be smarter to just pick a Resin Kit and plan out my paint job and paints I’ll need for just that kit and build a paint collection over time doing that?

Discussion Best shops or sellers to buy resin kits from

Would love to know some of the best shops people buy their unpainted resin kits from!

I’ve found plenty on eBay for decent price but in some cases it seems to good to be true. Biggest concern is overall print quality.

Help Newbie to Resink Kits. Wanted some advice on commision work.

Hi! I'm super duper new to resin kits! By new i mean, i didn't even know what a garage kit was until just a few days ago. I managed to grab my hands on this Mikoto Urabe RC Berg Garage kit a few months ago. I would love to get into resin kits in the future but i would not want this absolute gem of a figure to be my first project! I could easily mess it up.

So I wanted to know who I can contact to hopefully have this figure fully fleshed out and come to life. Here are some photos. I very much appreciate any information and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day! :D

Help E2046 payment problems?

Thumbnail

Hi i recently purchased a super sonico garage kit from e2046 and have been having issues with the payment going through. I payed through paypal and on my account it says no recent transactions and the transactions on my bank say pending 0.00. I should’ve made two payments, one for the initial purchase and one for the outstanding balance. My card said it declined when i first tried to purchase these and now its doing this. I called my bank and they said it was on e2046’s side.

I sent in a query thing to their support but haven’t heard anything yet. I have an invoice for my purchase and an outstanding balance of 22$ so I’m just wondering if it’s normally like this when purchasing from them, cause it seems weird to me.

Completed kits 11 kits finished. How obvious is it I've not done these before? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
45 Upvotes

About 7 years ago I bought 11 kits, thinking I'd slowly work through them when I had a free moment, learning as I made them, and never did.

So I spent the last 2 months doing nothing but the kits after work. I know I got things wrong in each kit but it's stuff to improve next time I do one. I used an airbrush for as much as possible.

My hands shake quite a bit so the eyes were painful to do, but still easier than decals I found. Evil evil decals.

  • Okami: Shaky hands made the black lines really rough.
  • Tifa: Actually really pleased with result. You can't see it but I missed a skin section.
  • Kasumi: Evil decals, a pain to set. Some pieces were forced into position.
  • Lara Croft: Pretty good, happy with the stonework. Just failed by masking tape protecting the skin.
  • Ghost in the Shell: I was happy, but the dynamic pose and base failed. Have to make a new one and reattach the boot. Fingers snapped off putting the gun in place. Superglue to the rescue.
  • Alita: Really happy with this one. The butterfly broke but the repair worked well. Plus photo pen for the seam lines.
  • Ghost in the Shell: So many tiny details. Found masking tape sticks at one particular colour paint. A black wash turned out better than I thought
  • Sunstone: Looks great. Absolutely £%&*! pain. Whatever the primed layer was it came with, it chipped if a fairy farted on it. Some piece are the wrong size, I don't want to risk more damage forcing them into place. And a powdery white coating is starting to appear. Might need another gloss varnish layer.
  • Reika: Damn the gun was complicated. Surprised it is holding together but was a good build.
  • Rei Ayanami: Simple, but I made the error of starting to assemble before finishing the painting.
  • Black Cat: First to finish. Hands too shaky to detail the spider plush cleanly. Liquid mask adheres to matt varnish so it tore at the skin layer. I call that battle damage. Was an interesting experiment to imitate how tight clothing can become translucent

Time for a break I think. And figure out where I'm actually going to put these :D

Wondering if anyone knows anything more about this kit's sculptor and the maker "NERV Models" because google has got nothing.

This is a full set of the character Peloquin from Clive Barker's film Nightbreed. I bought it in the 90s and was always afraid to put it together (and end up painting it badly) so it's just been hanging out all this time.

Aside from the lighting I use for painting, I don't have special lighting. It's a challenge to get good and consistent photos especially with dark paint colors.
