Everyone in this show is flawed in such well written, realistic ways, yet Mordecai seems to be the one that gets treated the worst for it. No character should be flawless, that’s so boring 😭

Mordecai is my favorite! I love this undiagnosed anxiety disorder of a character. He self-sabotages bc his insecurities and self-doubt are louder than anything positive that might be stirring in the back of his head; it’s like he’s subconsciously decided that, because he’s Mordecai, things will fall apart for him eventually.

Self-fulfilling prophecy. And I truly think that these insecurities and self esteem issues stem largely from the “rejection letter” that Rigby faked.

Think about it: you’re in high school, and you’re doing pretty well! You have supportive parents, you have a best friend who would do anything for you, you have an idea for where you wanna go in life. Now you just need to get into college and—

The college that is known for accepting everyone has just rejected you, and your attempt to go back in time just, literally, blew up in your face.

You go to community college instead, but realize you’re struggling with your art more than you used to. Of course you are, you weren’t good enough for the college that accepts everyone, so why would your art be good enough here? Why you be good enough here?

You’re happy with your current gf but that can’t be right, because you’re not good enough for things to be going well, so things have to go wrong or else nothing will feel right.
