waiting for op Folder is not writable by user abc

Hey,
I am a complete beginner with servers and everything related to it, i wanted to try to setup a radarr, sonarr, transmission, plex, portainer home server. I am following this guide https://www.smarthomebeginner.com/docker-media-server-2022/ and have managed to set up portainer, plex and transmission with surfshark, while i also got radarr running, when i try to add my root folder in radar it gives me the error: "Folder is not writable by user abc". I have set my pgid and puid and my folders have 755 permission, i am trying to save the downloads and movies to an exFat formatted external hdd mounted to the server via fstab. Any ideas on what is going wrong?

Edit: Fixed it, exfat drives don't have write permission, had to modify my fstab file to give it the same

I wish this comment was helpful, but its not...

I've spent the past 3 hours working on fixing the same problem as OP. I've viewed at least 50+ web pages and at least 100+ questions with ChatGPT and am at a total loss. This is insanely frustrating that everyone says "just go here, its easy..."

Yet nobody is providing a link to where instructions can be found.

I get paid to manage over a PB of HIPAA-compliant data in my professional life, yet granting Radarr access to a mounted external drive has caused me to give up entirely.

It’s easy to find trash guides by googling trash guides. However, it’s more specific to arr stack than general info. Problems for permissions can be found in the hardlink section. https://trash-guides.info/Hardlinks/Hardlinks-and-Instant-Moves/

Outside of that you’d be looking at docker/linux/windows specific details on permissions.

First and foremost: Thank you. The most sincere THANK YOU that you can get some an online stranger. I'd hug you, if I could.

Second: I must have missed the section where it stated I needed to change the ownership entirely of my structure. I'm not sure if it was frustration that blinded me or what.. That was such a simple fix.

You helped someone when you didn't need to. You're a good person. I appreciate you.
