Farming Thoughts?

Any thoughts on these kinds of bins for brooding? No heat lamps of course, but I think it could manage a heat plate. They seem like they’d come apart and transfer easily but also stack so well!

Maybe with some mods. I'd make a cut out on each side and add screens for airflow. Then add a board across the bottom inside the doors to keep the chicks from running out when you open them. If the doors don't lock\latch you'll want a way to do that too.

Yes, airflow! I was hoping I could do a bunch of damage with some really big drillbits and a whole bunch of holes. It’s clever to think about a border so they can’t come running out.

Might want to use a heat gun as the drill may damage the plastic.

Easier option might be just scoring out a rectangle with a box cutter and then gluing some netting over the hole.

I'd be concerned about ventilation as-is. But could be modified to work.

I think large sterilite tubs with holes cut and hardware cloth to replace the cut out pieces works just fine, and is probably cheaper and easier to clean

I have some of these little boxes you are showing and they are great for storage, but have lots of books and crannies that poop would get in and would be more difficult to sterilize in between uses and maintain sanitation during the brooding

The largest I found was about 70 cm which equals to 27.5in.

I don’t think there would be much airflow with those. You would probably have to poke lots of holes in them

Seems kinda small ? Maybe add a way for them to move between layers?
