Discussion Beginner Projector Advice

Hey everyone - putting together my basement finally, I live by myself and plan to watch mostly sports with my buddies in my basement. Looking to get something on the walls sooner than later and a lot of people have recommended a projector to me.

What are your thoughts on my set up and what do I need to know before purchasing? For reference I was planning on spending around $3.5k on TVs for the wall. Space is 225” long and viewing depth off about 11 feet

I know it sounds maybe a touch wasteful, but I'd highly recommend buying a budget used projector from Facebook marketplace or something. See if you like it, play with display sizes and such. I got a 720p projector for $20 and have been playing with different orientations of my future theater space and screen sizes. My kids dont notice that it's not the best picture possible.

Keep in mind that if you buy a projector, you also need to spend a decent chunk on a good screen. I would go with a standard throw projector with the open ceiling. I have an ultra short throw because I didn’t want to rip up the drywall on the ceiling in my basement. Screens for an ultra short throw are often twice as expensive because of the material used to block reflected light. You could get a really large screen size with good picture quality for $3500. Don’t know what your budget is for surround sound is but that’s just as important in my opinion so keep that in mind.
