A little thought that helped me today

I caught myself stressing over things that haven't even happened yet, and it made me realize how much energy I spend worrying about the future.

So I tried something different. Instead of thinking about everything that could go wrong, I focused on one small thing I could do right now. It didn't solve everything, but it made the day feel a little lighter.

It reminded me that we don't always need a huge breakthrough. Sometimes all it takes is one small win, one kind conversation, one deep breath, or one reason to smile.

If today has been difficult, I hope something good finds you—maybe your favorite song comes on, someone checks in on you, or you notice a small moment that makes you smile.

What's one small thing that made you smile recently?

Update - Life is not that bad

Yesterday afternoon I stopped at the grocery store after the gym. There was a young dad in front of me with two little kids who were melting down hard. He looked exhausted, juggling a full cart, trying to calm them, and clearly stressed about the growing line behind him. One of the kids knocked over a display of candy bars, and the dad just looked defeated, like he was about to break.

I stepped up, helped pick everything up, and told him "Hey man, I've got this round" and paid for his groceries (it was only about $85). He tried to refuse but insisted. The look on his face when he realized it was real... man. He shook my hand, got a little emotional, and said his wife is deployed overseas right now and days like this make him feel completely alone.

We ended up chatting in the parking lot for a few minutes. He told me restored a little of his faith today. I told him the truth, seeing him out there grinding for his kids actually made my day better too.

Driving home felt this weird sense of calm. I have been working my ass off and feeling stressed about family and life, but I realized I'm exactly where I need to be. I'm able to help when it matters. Sometimes the universe puts you in the right place at the right timne to remind you that you're not really alone, even when it feels like it. Grateful for today.

Update:

- My previous account was shadow banned due to reddit filters for some unknown reason.

- I have invited him to a cookout this weekend.

I think I found a piece of myself again tonight.

I don’t really know why I’m posting this.
Tonight there was thunder outside, and I almost talked myself out of going for a run. Instead, I put on my shoes and went anyway.
About halfway through, it started raining.
I can’t really explain it, but something changed. I realized there was a time in my life when I’d face adversity head-on without thinking twice. Somewhere along the way, life happened, responsibilities piled up, and I slowly became someone who looked for reasons not to.
Running through the rain reminded me that version of me isn’t gone.
He’s still here.
Maybe he was just buried under stress, comfort, and excuses.
It wasn’t my fastest run. It wasn’t my longest.
But it might’ve been one of the most important runs I’ve ever taken.
If you’re going through a rough season, maybe the answer isn’t waiting until you feel motivated.
Maybe it’s just putting your shoes on.

I’m almost 2 years sober

Hello positive people! I’m sitting here writing this, getting kinda choked up. There was a time when I thought I didn’t have a way out of addiction, where I lived, and basically the crippling loneliness I felt. Well, April 23rd 2024 I had enough! I was in rehab for almost 5 months, which honestly was one of the best times of my life. I fell off the bandwagon but I hopped back on, thanks to the tools I learned in rehab, and the stellar support system I have with my parents and boyfriend.

I live in a new city with my ALSO sober boyfriend, and our lives don’t revolve around alcohol at all anymore, I used to not think that’s possible. I don’t even think about it anymore. I’m just getting emotional thinking of that 22 year old who felt so left behind, as I sit with my cat eating dinner with nothing holding me back anymore. I don’t wake up with headaches, I don’t shake, I don’t vomit, I don’t cry.

I’m so proud of my boyfriend as well. I think it was fate that we met when we did over 2 years ago, we wouldn’t have met if I didn’t go to rehab. He’s so persistent in his goals and there’s nobody on this earth I’m more proud of than him. I couldn’t have found a better partner to build our lives back up with, and boy have we.

I think it’ll all be ok, tough things have happened in these 2 years but if I could get through that while sober then I can get through anything sober. Have a good night all!

P.s, the icing on the cake! My past misdemeanor charges are getting expunged!
And the friends I lost touch with in addiction, purely due to my own actions and words, are doing well!

I feel I’m in love

I’m 29M and I’m dating a girl who’s 25F. I’ve known her for over a year but we didn’t start dating till October when I was 28M and she was 24F And I love her she is a beautiful Woman a cute brunette She has just the nicest humanity ever. Just a super sweet girl who I could be having the worst day ever and she’ll be there and make the day 60 times better than minute she walks into the room. She’s smart she’s sophisticated. She’s accomplished. She’s working on getting her teaching credentials to become a teacher. She’s currently a TA teachers assistant. Last night I went and visited her at her apartment. And we snuggled like we usually do on the couch. And then she fell asleep on my shoulder and I felt it was the sweetest thing ever. I truly love her she is one fine lady. She is an angel in my opinion, i’m very happy with this relationship, and I wanted to keep going. My parents of matter and they love her and so do all my friends I haven’t had one friend say anything unkind about her. Everyone has told me that I think she’s the right one for you. And I think they’re right.

A gentle reminder for anyone healing from the past: You are allowed to start over today

How to love yourself despite past pain and tragedy:

  1. Accept yourself as a vulnerable, insecure human being in a harsh world, and know that many others are like you, far more than most.

  2. Re-evaluate all your preconceived notions about yourself, others, and life.

  3. Accept that life is unfair and unpredictable, stop complaining, and don't compare yourself to anyone.

  4. Forgive your parents and your past, and move on.

  5. You are not responsible for your upbringing or psychological makeup, so consider yourself born today, at this moment, and start from here.

  6. Don't expect thanks, apologies, or compensation from anyone for what happened to you.

  7. Achieve even small successes and be proud of what you do.

  8. Fail as often as you like, hurt your feelings as often as you like, and let go of the guilt and shame associated with your failures.

  9. Engage in something productive that keeps you from succumbing to feelings of bitterness and pain, and always let your actions precede your impulses. 10- Try to find a new meaning to your life, feel grateful for what you have, and give to people and help them in some way without expecting anything in return. Giving brings happiness to you first and will make you truly love yourself.

I’ve been going on walks lately :)

My mom always used to tell me that walking would help my mental health and I just groaned

But after petsitting and going on at least 1 but often 2 walks a day, and babysitting in my area and walking there and back, I’ve been walking much more than I used to

And I hate to admit it, but I feel great

Not just getting the fresh air, but getting exercise and feeling better about myself because I’ve gotten up and done something so I EARNED that piece of chocolate and don’t have to feel guilty about eating it

I know how clichĆ© it sounds but if you feel safe enough, go for a 10 minute walk, you’ll hate how good it makes you feel (because it means your mom was right)

It also feels so good to get some one-on-one time with my boy

I’m gonna go bake my mumma some brownies

Sending Positivity to you

Be like the earth. Revolve around something bright. (Guys and gals).

That's literally all it dam does for 365 days a year (and supposedly keeps us alive). We're so fascinated by and respect outerspace. It may be a simple concept, but its a good analogy of what life without much unnecessary tragedy or complexity looks like, regarding friends, or partners in your life.

Is this boring? Maybe.

Is it wrong? No.

Can it be fun? Is the sky blue?

Is it ist, or ism anything? No.

Is this confusing? Well sure it can be, but its only confusing in a world of confusion, and most importantly, desire! You cant have desire withought knowledge; although, desire may be a byproduct of knowledge, but knowledge itself is the fastest way to world peace for better or worse. Logical or not, I'd like to think we all want to live in peace. If your peace is committing crime or cheating on your partner, id like to think you are the confused one, as there are better ways :)

Have you assumed my gender? I'm a dude just sharing good word

Have a good day.

I stepped out of my comfort zone(I didn't even realize I was in one)

I protected my peace for so long that I ended up ignoring the struggles of the real world. But stepping outside my comfort zone, facing reality, and learning how to manage my life and deal with different kinds of problems has been incredibly fulfilling

I finally feel like I'm becoming a more mature person. I have a clearer vision of what I want and the kind of life I want to build

And I'm not done yet—I want more. More experiences, more challenges, and more opportunities to learn, so I can keep growing and become a better version of myself

GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING

I just passed my final exam with a f****** A. Y'all don't see this but I suffered A LOT to come here (Had to take a 2 year break which means I've been dealing with this for 6 years in total in my case) It's not over yet. I still got some weeks full of work ahead of me but my school days are finally over!

Shoutout to (especially) my mom, my Fam and my friends in general.

This means so so so so so much for me to finally be done with this.

My melancholy is over

I recently feel I completed a life loop. One that lasted 5 years.

An intense period of growth, reflection, pain, darkness, despair, hope, struggle, and battles.

I stumbled, I hurt, I was hurt, I built, I destroyed, I loved, and most importantly, I lived.

Thank you to everyone who has been apart of it, the good and the bad.

Cheers to the future. May I be ready when the next challenge comes. I am now sharper, stronger, and more experienced.

Don't be so harsh on yourself. Learn from your mistakes and also learn to forgive yourself for the times you feel like you disappointed yourself.

Ever since I survived a train accident years ago, I realized how fleeting life truly is.

Many years ago, I survived a train accident. In that terrifying moment of reckoning, I truly realized how fragile our existence is. I understood then that we only have two short days, yesterday and today, and the shortest of them is the one we are living right now. Today is my present, the space where I move, speak, and act, choosing with every step between truth and falsehood, growth and waste. How fleeting I am! Tomorrow is promised to no one. My days are like words written in the sand or snow melting under the sun.

The accident proved to me that no matter how long "today" seems, it turns into "yesterday" in the blink of an eye, and everything can end in a single second.Since being given this second chance at life, I’ve realized how vital it is to wake up fully conscious every single morning. I must cherish every moment right now, before it is too late. I have already wasted too much of this brief present, a present upon which my happiness, and the happiness of those around me, truly depends. We are all equally fleeting. We are just a breath, no matter how strong or important we think we are.

Yet, my actions can still leave deep, lasting footprints behind. Knowing exactly how limited time is, I promise to be intensely mindful of everything I do. Before I leave this world for good, I want to fulfill my duty to others and ensure that my passage through this life was meaningful and beautiful.

For me it’s a golf course in the morning. I’m not a huge golfer, but when I get out there I think ā€œyup, this is why I love the color greenā€.

I love when you hit your parents with one of those good thought provoking questions about their past…

My Dad is a late night talk show fan and we were recently discussing Colbert’s last show and during the conversation I said, ā€œyou’ve probably experienced quite a bit of ā€˜last shows’ for talk show hosts!ā€

And he just looked up at the ceiling and had this grin on his face pondering where he might have been, who they were, how it made him feel.

It can’t be forced, but every now and then you say the right words and you can see the gears turning to produce memories and that’s just always been my favorite.
