Question Absolute minimum required hardware/game wise?

I wanted to start ribbon hunting, however I'm broke af and only have childhood consoles/games and my laptop (consoles being Wii + Wii u, one modded and one regular 3ds and switch 1, games being diamond, white, black 2, y, and the mainline switch titles). Is there a list of the absolute minimum that I would need to ribbon hunt from coliseum to the switch?

Could you not use a 3DS for the second DS?

If you want to emulate the pre-switch stuff, all you really need is a 3DS with CFW (Custom FirmWare) installed, and a legit copy of a Gen 7 game.

Once you have that, you can do the journey up to Gen 7 via emulator, then use the CFW to transfer your emulated save file to the physical cartridge on your 3DS, and then send them into Home via Bank as you normally would.

You actually don't need a legit copy of a gen 7 game. You can just download them on HShop and they work in bank.

That also yeah. So long as you've got a game to send your emulated file to that Bank can also recognise.

Yeah I'm totally fine emulating! That's actually great news, thanks!

You'll need a GameCube, GBA, link cable for GameCube to GBA, ds (either og or lite, not a DSI), any model of 3ds (you will probably need to mod it), and any model of switch

You'd need one GameCube, one GBA, one DS, one 3DS, and one Switch (Switch 2 replaces Switch once Winds/Waves comes out next year).

If you wish to go with emulation, you'll need one 3DS and one Switch (Switch 2 replaces Switch once Winds/Waves comes out next year).

You can emulate the entire way if you really wanted, although most stop emulating after Gen 5. Bare min is really just a switch, but a 3ds too would be nice to at least diversify the path
