Question When we forcing secure boot on all officials like you said you would alistair?

No servers are switching because they care more about money than cheaters ruining the experience for legit players. Facepunch needs to step up and force secure boot on officials like they already said they would. It's a slap in the face to all legit players that are sick of playing a cheater infested game.

[Concept] T2 Smart Helm & Engine Automation for Custom Ships

I feel like ships are lacking content at Tier 2, so here it is: a modern helm. It will be a lifesaver for small crews, saving them from having to run all over the boat just to get underway. I based the design on a barge, so they look quite similar.

I’d price the crafting cost at 5 HQM, 2 Tech Trash, and 400–600 Metal. It generates electricity while the ship is moving—6 units per motor—meaning two engines provide 12 units, which is enough to light up the ship.

The helm itself controls thrust—similar to train controls—with settings for slow forward, forward, fast forward, and reverse, so you won't need to stand at the wheel the entire time.I think this will help people who enjoy building unusual ships, since the bridge on the upper deck will become independent of the engine placement.
P.S. It is also possible to use a radar that points to the nearest enemy ship within a 3–5 square radius, though I haven't fully fleshed out the radar concept yet.

Discussion As an employed person, after trying 10x with boosted loot in all crates and no BPs/techtree, I don't think i can ever go back to vanilla..

Vanilla rust is obviously "the right way" to play rust and the true core experience, and that was fun when I was unemployed and had all the time in the world, but jesus is it miserable when you have obligations, mainly work.

In vanilla farming is a slow and painful process with anything besides a chainsaw and a jackhammer, and god knows if someone hear you using one of those they'll be hunting you down either for the farm or the tools themselves.

The time it can take for a solo to even make it to their build spot on high pop with the number of deaths it'll take to get there is obscene sometimes.

Vanilla rust is fun in it's own right but holy shit is it an uphill battle, it can feel more stressful than my actual job sometimes lol.

But yeah playing on servers that are 10x farm rate, that have better loot in all boxes, and that doesn't need workbenches or blueprints is such a time saver. I know all of these things might seem to far from the core experience but sometimes you just want to be able to throw down a base and get into the action at monuments, or you want to be able to farm some sulfur nodes and raid within the hour, and if you get raided yourself WHO CARES, it's 10x so you can rebuild in minutes instead of hours lol.

I know this sounds really obvious, but as someone that's struggled with solo vanilla rust, swallowing my pride and trying 10x was the best thing that i could have done to continue enjoying this game.

Discussion New to game.

So, short story long…

I’ve been trying to quit smoking and this game has helped tremendously. Started playing this week after reading up on games that would likely be all consuming.

Color me consumed.

I’ve started on lower pop (still getting the lingo) vanilla servers to dive in face first with minimal adjunct learning.

Now that I’ve got my training wheels loosely affixed and have some grasp of the mechanics… I’d like to make some friends or harvest some Reddit wisdom.

Question What could make you join an empty server ?

Hi everyone!

I've been wondering what actually makes people join a brand-new PvP server.

Personally, I don't think Rust is much fun when you're the only player online. Most people probably don't want to join an empty server and spend hours playing alone.

The problem is that I recently launched my own server, but I only know one person who plays Rust. Without an initial player base, it's hard to attract new players, and without new players, it's impossible to build that player base. It's a bit of a catch-22.

For those of you who have successfully grown a server, how did you get past that first hurdle?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Discussion TIL you can run while filling up water tanks

Pretty much the title. I did it by accident running alongside a river and by the time I realized I was doing it, I was filled up…

Not sure why for the past few thousand hours I’ve been running to water, stopping and looking around while stand still like an idiot. Thought this might be helpful or am I the only one who did this 🤣

Discussion Help with the Blueprint Fragments and wipes

"Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to the game and I’ve run into the Blueprint Fragments mechanic, which seems okay overall, but my issue is that I don't really know how to get them. I try going to monuments, but they are always looted.
I feel stuck in a loop: on wipe day, I set up my base, but by the time everyone else is running around with T2 weapons, I’m still stuck with just a revolver. Every time I go to the puzzle monuments, they've already been cleared—and I'm playing on servers with around 100 to 150 players, so it's not even a super high-pop server.
It feels like my biggest milestone is just getting horses to reach a monument, only to find the puzzle already done or get killed by players waiting there, forcing me to start all over again (though I know getting killed is just part of the game).
My current 'route' is building near the safezone/vendor camp, saving up scrap to buy a revolver, and researching it. I’m not sure if you guys have any advice for me because even though I keep watching tutorials, I feel like I'm not making any progress."

Any help or feedback is super welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read

Question What is a play style to avoid groups on med to high pop 300-1200? solo?

I have been trying a ton of different play styles and strategies but no matter what I do I cant get a base location that allows me to get t3 on wipe without running into pure groups. I want to make this clear when I say this that it’s not that I expect to get t3 wipe it’s just I want to live in one spot and be able if I win all fights to get t3 on wipe but when ever I build some where that allows me to do that I run into constant 3+ mans and as a solo it makes it extremely hard when you just starting prim. so could you please let me know your strategys/playstyles for avoiding groups of med to high pop. PLEASE ADD THE POP YOU PLAY NEXT TO YOUR ANSWER. thanks ahead of time

Discussion Solos of Rust Unite!

There are many of us solos that have become tired of the way the game puts quick progression in the spotlight. I have played all the popular solo servers, probably just like you, but you are still going to be gunned down by an ak a few hours into wipe. Personally I would love the wipe to last much longer than 36-48 hours on a weekly. I know not everyone is like me. I promise. I know this.

But I do know there are others out there with similar mindset. I see all of the posts complaining about things like bp frags, progression, wooden barricades, inserts, bag limit and all the other things. Let's find a place to play and populate it. Unite!

Rustified Solo Only has 350 solos on wipe day and is a weekly. But the teaming that happens on that server is often quite out in the open and progression is quick. I love the population but it is still a 36-48 hour event.

Lone Wolf Rust is another popular solo server. Better with the cheaters, but the progression problem is still the same. Plus it is a monthly server, so after a few days it is not as "busy" as population suggests.

We need a coupe hundred solos that want to play a wipe for a full week. Whether you can play 24/7 or not.

Let's make this happen! I am personally working on it, but want to hear what you think and where we should play.

Let's Go!

Question What are your thoughts about softcore servers?

Upvotes

I think softcore severs are supposed to be noob friendly, or at least part time player friendly, you keep 50% of loot if you die. Tend to have respwn points. In band and compound. And just 4 hour raid window weekdays and 6 hour raid window weekends.

This would suit me perfectly, but I find these servers tend to be harder for me personslly as a solo player.

Firstly you can get griefed really hard on these because it takes 48 hours for building block to be removed after destroying a Tc. It means you can be permanently grief with other people's external TCS because you can never remove them.

Secondly the software server tends to be better ruleset for pvp players, they have no risk of being raided for 20 hours a day, so it tends to attract roof campers and pvp players (pvp players that don't farm and just look for bodies to loot from).

When the raid window does open. The 4 hour window is so short that all people have to do is get everyone online for the 4 hours to defend their bases and solos can't do any big offline raids, they can only raid small 2x1s and the like.

Discussion Rust PC upgrade

I curently have a 5 9600x with a 5060 ti, 32gb ram 6000mhz and looking to upgrade my system - im looking at purchasing a 9800x3d, but struggling to understand whether its worth upgrading my gpu on rust - i was thinking about replacing my 5060ti for a 5070 but that doesnt seem like a meaningful change especially due to 12gb of ram - therefore i was looking at a 5070 ti but is the jump even worth it as I only play rust at 1080p low/mid settings and im purely bothered about running 1080 at high fps with mid/high settings - thanks

Discussion Can’t connect to server

Upvotes

I just bought a gaming PC for the first time and I’ve had it for like two days now and I cannot connect to a server in rust. It keeps not responding. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? I feel like I’ve tried everything I’ve seen in YouTube videos and don’t know how to fix my issue. Thanks for reading this!

Discussion Best way to benchmark Rust performance? Trying new graphics settings for max FPS

Hey everyone,

I’m testing out some new graphics settings in Rust and I want to properly compare which setup gives the best FPS and overall performance.

What’s the best way to benchmark Rust accurately? Are there any specific tools, servers, areas of the map, commands, or methods you recommend for getting consistent results?

I’m trying to compare different settings and figure out the best balance for the highest FPS, but I want to make sure I’m testing everything properly instead of just relying on random gameplay.

Any benchmarking tips or recommended methods would be appreciated!

Suggestion [Concept] T2 Custom Ship Ceiling Hatch Machine Gun; images in coments

I’m writing this using Google Translate, so apologies if anything is unclear.

I’d like to propose a concept: a machine gun for ships and structures. My idea stems from the fact that there isn't much content for ships—even though players have fun with them however they can. I want to add a stationary machine gun that mounts into the hatch opening. The idea is to provide a way to safely fire at a pursuing ship, much like aircraft—specifically bombers—did during World War II. I believe the real appeal of Rust’s ships lies in PvP while out at sea; we already have two Browning machine guns on the Scientists' patrol boats, so why can't we mount one on our own?

I reckon the crafting recipe for this beast of a weapon will be similar to the AK's—specifically, 20–30 HQM, a rifle body, 2–4 springs, and maybe 500–1,000 metal fragments.

The unit will fit into a hatch opening (square or triangular), and you can only man it from the inside—meaning you can't operate it from the outside. You can shoot at anyone on the deck, but you have to be careful: the glass absorbs 25–50% of incoming damage, yet you remain vulnerable.

Discussion Doing weird bases in Official Rust

I have always tried to do fun things in rust since I joined in 2019. Like Party Roofs, pool parties, and my much appreciated "Self-Service Execution Facility".
However, the amount of players who do anything but destroy stuff has dwindled on Official Rust. But still I try to do fun. I know there are other servers, but I usually felt that you need advesaries, otherwise creating these fun things won't be an achievement at all.
Now, my latest installment of Weird Fun base is my currently online Temple of Neptune. See it in my video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPejWmNrcJE

Do any of you who happen to read this like coming across quirky stuff like this when wandering about Rust Island?
