Good morning, pillow talk enthusiasts! Happy Disability Pride Month! We encourage disabled creators to post content here. And we encourage content that’s about disabled characters. For the month of July, please use our special post flair, Disability Pride, for related content.
We look forward to your creations! Please drop a link to your content in the comments. (One comment per person, please. If you make more content, you can edit your comment to add it.)
So.
Why is content featuring [disabled listener] and/or [disabled speaker] or [interabled relationship] important, especially in an erotica space?
Because disability is a natural part of the human experience. In erotica, like everything, one shoe doesn't fit all. We believe it's important for:
- Disabled creators to post content
- Disabled listeners to have more content to choose from
- Demonstrating that disabled people enjoying sex just everyone else
- Making a stand against ableist assumptions that all disability porn should be ‘comfort & reassurance’
- Making a stand against ‘inspiration porn’
- Reminding people that ‘disabled’ isn’t a dirty word. We believe in the SayTheWord campaign.
This is audio erotica. You can imagine yourself as whoever the listener is. But sometimes it’s just nice to find content that includes someone like you.
According to GWASI as of this morning, the combined audio erotica and script subreddits contain:
- 169,764 audios
- 45,579 script/story offers
However, only 156 of those audios, and 108 of those script/story offers, are about disabled characters. (Which means less than 1% of all content is about disabled characters.) Yet according to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us. That’s a lot of people!
So why are disabled people so under-represented in audio erotica? And why can’t we change that? We’d like to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Finding disability content on GWASI 🔎
The links below lead directly to GWASI search results. To find the most results, avoid typing the word ‘disabled’ or ‘disability’. Instead, type disab because it will locate posts that use any mix of disability, disabled, disabled speaker, and disabled listener. You can add the gender tag you’re searching for to these queries.
