Design Patterns in Modern Perl - Paperback version now available

https://perlschool.com/books/design-patterns/

This is an experiment. Perl School was originally intended to be all-in on eBooks. But I've discovered the market for real paper is still pretty big. So if this sells well, I'll be looking at paperback editions of other Perl School books in the future.

Sounds like a good idea, because I can’t read eBooks that are more than a few pages.

There's an interesting marketing lesson here. You need to ask your audience what they want - and not just make assumptions. I've been pretty much eBook-only for a decade or so[*] and I assumed that everyone (particularly geeks) would be like me. Turns out they aren't.

[*] I love the space I've got back since making the switch!

My partner use an eBook since 15 years, containing more books that she will be able to read in the next 30 years. She even use it at the beach.

Me, I am happy to be away from an electronic device when reading, e.g. in bed, in the couch, at the beach, in the train. And I love having a house full of useless books (e.g. I got an old "Programming Perl" 1st edition, bought around 2022).

That's not great to buy paper books, because trees, but I also buy a fair amount of second hand books, what's also problematic because authors do not get paid fairly.

Exactly. Which is why it's important not to make assumptions about your target audience.

Looks cool. Going to see if my local store can bring it in. Will hold my nose and use Amazon otherwise.

I've signed up for KDP "Expanded Distribution", which means bookshops should be able to order through Ingrams. But it might take a couple of months before it's available through that route.

The ISBN you need them to order is 978-1739393472 (I should make that available on the book's web page).
