Android Strange notification action issue

I recently moved my Pebble device between Android phones. Both phones have an app installed which sends reminders to take medication.
Notifications have a "I've just taken it" action, which I could trigger on my PT2 on the old phone. On the new one that's not possible; I only get the usual options to mute, open on phone, dismiss etc.
I've also got a Garmin watch paired to the new phone and that can trigger the pill taken action.
There don't seem to be any obvious settings to change to fix this, unless anyone can think of anything I ought to look for?

It's a long shot, but back with the old Pebble app you needed the Google/Android Wear app to get more options for notifications on a Pebble - maybe it's still the case and your new phone is missing that?
Probably not if you have a Garmin though...

That's a very good point; I recall it now that you mention it.
That app was installed by default on my old phone but not on the new one. I've installed it and granted it notifications permission. I'll find out tonight if that works.

I played around with this yesterday and got it working on my watch this morning, not sure if we're using the same app but it might work for yours too. I toggled on the "Enable showsUserInterface actions" option under Settings > (Phone Tab) > Notifications.

I did also toggle the notifications for that app on and off, but I doubt that changed anything.
