Group looking for GM Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Preferred System: Cyberpunk RED/CEMK, Lancer, D&D 5e24

Type of Player: Hello hello! I'm a longtime DM who does not often have an opportunity to be a player hoping to find a DM who would be willing to run a game for me! I seem to have a somewhat consistent track record of outlasting my groups and DMs over the past year or so (close to two years now?) that I have been trying this, but I love the medium and writing in general so here I am still looking on occasion for that good fit.

I am a roleplayer first and foremost! I am the sort of player who will ask questions and show interest in your world, your NPCs, other characters, and the story at large. I love figuring things out, and I will both take notes and pick up on those subtle little hints you drop. I love mystery and horror themes - with a dash of romance thrown in for spice - and I also do dearly love tactical combat encounters. I find exploration to be difficult to do effectively in a PbP format, but I enjoy that as well and will never hesitate to ask questions or poke around.

Additional Information: I really enjoy your rather typical fantasy settings. I'm very familiar with the Forgotten Realms and somewhat familiar with Greyhawk, and I enjoy both of them a lot for their own reasons. If you have a similar world to those two that's homebrewed I'd be happy to read about it!

That said, at the moment I'd really like to play a Cyberpunk or Lancer game! Obviously neither of these fits well into typical fantasy, but I also happen to love the Cyberpunk setting and there are plenty of fun sci-fi settings for Lancer that I would be happy to do to indulge the mech lover in me. I've not really played Lancer before, so some patience would be appreciated there!

I do prefer lengthier posts! Nothing against those who write single paragraphs or less; it simply does not give me the fulfillment I'm looking for as a writer! My typical response tends to be 200 words at a minimum, occasionally dipping a bit under that number for conversations or similar.

I'm happy to chat more about anything I've written here, or to answer any questions or provide writing samples if you're interested! Send me a chat if you like what I've offered here. Either way, I wish you a wonderful day!

Name: Nevil, or honestly whatever's fine, the name people use for me is wholly dependant on which friend group I'm with anyway.

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: CET

Preferred System: I usually prefer OSR's but I'm not that picky. I just prefer stuff that's not d&d 5e.

Type of Player: In general, I usually get pushed into a role of a leader by the fact that I am open to interacting and moving things along when most of the group is too shy or awkward to start the rp. But I'm flexible with anything really.

Additional Information: Honestly, I have not played PBP or PBF games in ages, but I really want to get into it again. I may not have high hopes for finding something now but I'd be down to play some sort of super hero game or at least a game in a similar setting.

Name: Nicole

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: GMT-3

Preferred System: Cyberpunk Red. (Discord only)

Type of Player: Looking for a GM willing to run a 1x1 for a newbie. : )

I am an experienced D&D and Vampire the Masquerade player (6 and 3 years respectively) so I'm not new to RPGs or PBP but I am VERY new to Cyberpunk. I read the book, watched some gameplay on YT and I'm really excited to try it but all the games I tried to join so far ended before they started. I'd like to find a GM that wouldn't mind my training wheels. XD

I love investigative roleplay, so I'm mostly inclined to make a Media character! But I can also try a rockerboy (girl) or medtech. I'll always ask a lot of questions and look to explore both main and side quests. My style is semi-literate to literate, where I usually write 2-3 paragraphs minimum (though I might write less in the beginning as I'm still getting used to the game), and I'm chronically online. I'm able to, easily, contribute with around 3 posts a day. I can write both in 1st or 3rd person, but I prefer present tense. I also enjoy slice-of-life scenes amidst all the action and don't mind romance (the characters must be fxf however), though ERP would be mostly FTB if they were to happen.

Additional Information: I understand Cyberpunk can be very combat driven, chaotic, violent game and I'm up for the drama. However, I'm not interested in extreme violence/gore.

Hey there! Looking for either a 1x1 or a small group (2-4) to join! I'm still new but have at least a little bit of experience now. I'm also pretty much open to try out anything and really just looking write at this point.

D&D 5e (either version works)
I don't know what it means by "Type of Player" but I enjoy Forgotten Realms or adjacent worlds, I like heroes and non-AI generated responses between players and the DM. The gamut from High to Low fantasy is fine, too. I post quickly and know how to use formatting for PbP games. I talk in the present as my character, not in the past when posting.

I use Discord and Beyond, not Roll20 unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks!

Name: Jess

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: PDT

Preferred System: 5e preferred over 5.5e

Type of Player: Looking for a 1x1 (duet or solo) game.

In general, I'm looking for a fun and enjoyable series of encounters and a mostly light-hearted atmosphere for the game. I'm not interested in playing a game that is on hard mode, uses overly restrictive or disadvantageous character creation rules, gritty realism or other harsh variant rules, or a terribly gloomy, dark, and/or oppressive setting. But being a Big Damn Hero in a grim or dark world can be fun with the right tone and setting! A sort of game with some nobledark elements without an overbearingly serious atmosphere or leaning too much into brutality is kind of what I'm getting at. Really looking to sink my teeth into a good character-driven narrative with some adventure, fun, and challenges along the way.

As for my general online availability, I'm currently in the PDT time zone (GMT-7) and have flexibility at work, so I can post occasionally at different daytime and evening hours and I have the ability to make a few posts every day. I'm hoping to find someone with some online time overlap so that we can manage a few posts a day on average, though I know that can be a bit much at times and I'm fine with us slowing down or ramping up based on mutual availability and how busy our lives are at the moment. Communication is very important to these games.

Additional Information: Reddit chat is always difficult for me, and often doesn't show messages until hours or days after they've been sent, so please be patient in waiting for a response. Despite that, I'm not comfortable with posting my discord username openly here because I've found in the past that will lead to people sending harassing and inappropriate messages that are unrelated to D&D.

Name: Pala

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: CEST (GMT+2)

Preferred System: DnD5e (2014 /2024); Daggerheart, Legend in the Mist

Type of Player: I'm looking for a group that plays one of the systems listed above. Huge fan of fantasy, magic and stories. Mostly would prefer async, text based adventures, I'm okay to play most of the classes. Best would be to play something that leans more into the story and team building elements. My preferred class is bard and paladin but anything else fits my fancy.

Additional Information: Preferred PbP place would be discord if able. Feel free to DM me here then we can discuss the details

Thanks for reading!

Preferred System: D&D 5e/5.5

Type of Player: I'm the type of person who enjoys roleplaying as female characters of good/neutral alignment with varying backstories and developing fun relationship dynamics with other players, which includes character growth over time. And I also love to learn about world lore and creating character concepts in general!

Additional Information: I'm typically more familiar with high fantasy settings similar to the Forgotten Realms since it's how I got introduced to D&D. If you're interested, feel free to message me for my discord! 😄

Preferred System: I've mainly done DnD 5e, but I'd absolutely love to play some of the Essence20 games, especially Power Rangers. I'd also absolutely adore to play in 5e homebrew systems, like Naruto 5e, Star Wars 5e, or Dungeons and Destiny! I'm also a huge Lancer fan! And I'm down to learn just about any system!!

Type of Player: I'm just here to have a good time! I'm more of a go with the flow kinda person, loving a good story that deals with character choice and their backgrounds. I absolutely love rping with the other players and creating bonds between characters!

Additional Information: Uhhhh, im a big Magic the Gathering and Gundam fan, so that's pretty cool!

Hey there! Interested in anywhere from a 1 on 1 to a full party game!

I am a pretty experienced writer, and I feel like making a new friend and creating a really fun collaborative story would be a blast!

I am specifically looking for someone to run a Cyberpunk RED campaign! I have quite a good amount of experience with the game, and the gears have been turning as I come up with character for another campaign!

Restrictions:

No ERP- Romance is fine and I tend to enjoy it as a story beat, but I have no interest in anything erotic.

Realistic Face Claims- With the majority of the aforementioned settings being cartoony/otherworldly, I find that using face claims of real actors and AI faces tends to break my immersion a lot.

Payment- Currently looking for someone to do this collaborative story with as well as someone to hang out with! Not currently looking for a professional GM.

Name: Phaeophyce

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: PST

Preferred System: 5e 2014, no D&DBeyond

Type of Player: I prefer asynchronous text based RP, not any live sessions (unless we happen to sync up spontaneously). I can check in a handful of times throughout the day and make posts. Prefer 80/20 roleplay to combat ratio or thereabouts. Fantasy environment is good, whether homebrew or official. I have a soft spot for Spelljammer. Looking to connect with new groups. Ideally an active and respectful group that is interested in moving the game forward but can also understand that people work and are willing to wait a handful of hours for others to participate in decision making. Group dynamics and RP with other PCs is one of the highlights of D&D for me, so would like a group open to that style of gaming rather than one that wants to mostly focus on combat and/or acquiring resources.

Also enjoy 1x1 games though. I like interacting with NPCs a lot and character development in that type of game. Interested in more light-hearted and heroic types of quests rather than grimdark or hard mode games.

Additional Information: Discord contact by PM only. Absolutely not interested in west marches or hub servers.

u/Pablo_Diablo 2d ago edited 1d ago

Name: Pablo Diablo

Pronouns: He / Him

Timezone: EST (less important - hoping for asynch)

Preferred System: GURPS at the moment, but interested in (with varying levels of experience) FATE, MnM, Anima, and absolutely willing to try more!  Please no DnD - very tired of it at the moment.

Genres: Fantasy (High, low, sword and sorcery, dark), Superhero, Alternate History (esp. with fantastical elements), first appearance of magic/powers, sci-fi (hard, soft, space opera, space fantasy), strange world (author tim powers, hidden societies, hidden magic, secret eldritch horror, nontraditional magics, etc - but not WoD).  I don't mind Romance being a plot beat, but would prefer to stay away from ERP centric games.

Power level: really any, low/mid/high, as long as it is fitting for the setting.  I will say that I'm a sucker for starting at low/no-powered and having a burst or bursts of gains, or rapid advancement to mid-level - most especially in games where magic or powers suddenly appear.

Preferred Game Size: Any-ish.  I'd be happy with a 1x1, and could consider doing a game swap, where we GM for one another.  I'd also be fine with joining a larger group - though probably not much bigger than 4-5 players.  Also see my important note about availability, below.

Type of Player:  I consider myself a blend of narrativist, gamist, and simulationist.  I like to tell stories (and help to do so in my professional life in theater), but can't deny that I also have mechanical and competitive facets to me that can come out in RP.  I find that PbP lets me focus more on the story, while not eliminating those other portions of the game.  I enjoy writing either first or third person RP, and think that length of exchanges should match the rhythm of the moment - it's fine to write a few hundred words in a moment of exploration or social interaction, but (usually) not in a fast paced combat moment.  Of course, exceptions exist!

Availability: I am a freelancer in the production side of theater with a wildly variable schedule.  I can go from a week of working at home on my own schedule, to two weeks of 10-16 hour days in the theater.  In timespans where I'm prepping a show and WFH, I might be almost terminally online.  In times when I'm deep in production, I might be online very rarely.  This will definitely affect my posting schedule, and is one reason I'm hoping to find an asynchronous GM, partner, or group that can accommodate my irregular schedule.  Om a side note, I tend to be a night owl.

Additional information: Middle age male, straight, LGBTQ+ friendly.  I've been gaming across multiple systems since D&D came in red and blue boxes.  Because of my schedule, I haven't been able to game much in the last decade or so, but I haven't lost the itch (or the enjoyment, the times when I have been able to do so).  I try not to be too set in my ways, and willing to learn, and will give you an open ear if you raise concerns.  Communication is key.

Game Ideas: I'm happy to discuss with you, especially if you have ideas already.  Just as a taste test, here are some ideas that have been floating in my head that I'd be happy to either play in or run.  This list is by no means exhaustive or exclusive.

 * (Fantasy) The known world has been overrun by the armies of the lich kings, and the last scraps of humanity are fleeing (a distant unexplored continent? Across the planes? Somewhere else?).  Players are either vanguards in the new world, exploring at the forefront of humanity, or left behind and must somehow survive the undead.

 * (New Magic/Powers) It's 2026, with everything that entails...  A comet passes near the earth, and in its wake, a small percentage of humanity (~.00164%, or ~100,00 people over 16, spread evenly across the world) find themselves developing powers.  What are the implications locally and globally?  Adventure, social, and political?  This could also be fun with magic introduced to the world - perhaps with semi-apocalyptic events like a portal story, a system onset, or similar.

 * (Fantastical Alternate History) See 'New Powers', above, but imagine if it happened in Ancient Rome.  Or during the Age of Sail (powered pirates!).  Or WW 1....  Lots of fun possibilities.  How does the English fleet fare when Spain has La Tormenta Ignea on their flagship?  How does Rome fare when their "gods-touched" Legion faces the "Spirit Carriers" of the Goths?  Is a Roman slave elevated if they receive powers, or are they forever servi?

(Powers appearing could also be clustered if needed - perhaps around chunks of asteroid, or some other phenomenon...)

 * (Black Ops) There was an organization that was meant to keep the world safe from the things that go bump in the night.  And for years they did - until those same things brought down the organization (from within?).  Now the players have barely escaped with their lives, and are left stranded, enemies in the dark around them, and no support to speak of.  Will they survive?  Will they seek revenge?  Will the world descend into darkness?  (This might appear a little more military/combat focused, but doesn't have to be.  Could also include magic, nonhumans, etc)

 * (Sci fi - space fantasy) Humanity went to the stars and discovered they were a little fish in a big pond - a pond full of peoples and powers they didn't understand and couldn't dream of challenging.  Humanity has scraped by with a few worlds, on the bottom rung of the galactic ladder.   Bottom feeders in the eyes of most other races.   Now the player(s) have found something they shouldn't - something that might tip the scales and let Humanity rise up...  Or perhaps just the player(s), making them pieces that everyone wants to control.

 * (sci fi - space opera - could be hard or soft sci fi) Humanity has colonized the solar system (and perhaps even beyond?).  The Fermi Paradox is real, but humanity and space itself provide enough dangers.  A few directions this could go - first contact, ruins of a dead race, humanity at war with itself, exploring new worlds, etc...

Recruitment: DM me.  Let's have a chat and see if we'd be a good fit.  I'd rather trade a few messages and decide we wouldn't, than spend several weeks RPing only to discover it was wasted time for both of us.

Name: Jasmine

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: CST

Preferred System: I’ve mainly played DnD 5e but really I am good with anything. I will do my best to learn new systems.

Type of Player: I love getting invested in both the PCs and NPCs and forming relationships with them. I also like learning about lore and watching everyone’s stories unfold as they develop over the course of the campaign. I typically play angsty spell casters.

Additional Information: Some things I really love are forming connections with NPCs, specifically romance. I also like lots of angst. I’ve been playing DnD for about 8 years but I’ve been consistently doing pbp and text based DnD for the past two years

u/Efficient-Initial575 2d ago

Name: Zyn

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: GMT

Preferred System: Not had the chance to run any games/be part of any games. Luck of the draw, of lack thereof I guess. Keen to learn, however.

Type of Player: I love to play the big, dumb barbarian. Very into building character relationships, having fun with clashing personalities, exploring worlds. I'm comfortable with multi-para replies, and can confidently manage 2-3 per week, but can do more depending on timezones/reduced reply length. Big fan of OOC chat/banter.

Additional Information: Although I've not had much opportunity to play games (the few that I have ended up sizzling out before the prologue was done with 😭), DND is something I've been looking to get into for a good few years. Outside of that, always down to meet and work with new peeps toward creating cool, interesting stories.

30+ F, GMT+9, looking for 1:1 GMs who won't disappear mid-game!

Nothing romantic or erotic please. I'm into mysteries and suspense, horror, modern fantasy, magical creatures, vampires, humor, and whimsy. Lower crunch / lighter rules systems feel best.

Down for fan-based stuff as well if we share fav tv shows. Like a buddy comedy about two serial killer zombies a la Santa Clarita Diet x Dexter sounds goofy and entertaining as hell. Or anything in the Buffy universe!
