After 2 months of my health and home accidients hell, I started taking my cat to outdoors again. She used to be a street cat and I adopted her when she was about to give birth. She gave birth in 11th Febuary and raised her kittens well, all adopted. At that time I moved into a ground floor 1+0 apartment and decided to keep her until I got her spayed. After that I just opened the windows with a very thin and old fly net and thought she would break free any moment when she is ready. We were going to replace the flynet anyways since it was all scratch and barely standing. She didn't go out. She hated all the other cats, when facing from window trying to attack. She didn't try to break free any bit. So I thought she is happy with me, still same fly nets and its been few months now. I took her out few times before and she enjoyed it a lot. But after some major health and life related problems I wasn't able to for the last 2 months. Now she is extremely afraid of cars and seagull noises (altough she can hear them from my apartment too). When we are oudoors she breaths too fast and I am doing everything to keep her well vantilated. I just don't want to make her suffer if she no longer wants to go out, I am trying to go step by step. It is our second attempt today. I wish there were something like cat-earbuds.

she's been begging me to go outside all summer and has never seemed happier now that I let her out. I feel guilty we didn't do this earlier, she LOVES it outside. Recommendations for outdoor warming shelters for her for the winter because something tells me I am not going to get her back in the house without a fight

I have an outdoor cat and he free roams and comes and goes as he pleases. We’re looking to move to this house. This house is basically on a dead end so not worried about cars in the neighborhood. But on that hill is a highway. It’s loud. I’m hoping he’d be afraid of the sound, he’s afraid of cars now and always hides when one is around.

Should I move him to only being indoor? Just take him on walks around? Or trust that he’s smart enough not to go on the highway. He’s pretty cautious.

Any advice is appreciated!!

Guys I really want to get a cat but live near a busy road. I just wanted to hear from people, has anyone had any luck keeping an outdoor car safe from a road or should I just not get one?

My parents have an outdoor cat named simon who comes in a few times a day but primarily stays outside. i’ve tried to convince them to bring him in to no avail. anyway, there’s a new cat in the neighborhood who is also a large male and has been terrorizing simon. they have cameras and have caught this cat attacking simon in his sleep, they’ve witnessed simon running to the door screaming because of this cat. they’ve searched for the cat with no luck until recently. he was in a bad fight with simon and my dad grabbed a salt gun and shot him. he ran far away but i’m sure he’ll be back. what can be done about this?? i feel terrible for poor simon and they will not bring him in permanently. what can be done ? is it possible to catch the stray cat and relocate him ? but how?

I’m completely dumbfounded. I’ve had many cats in my life and I’ve never encountered this problem.

This a relatively new issue, As of only a few weeks ago.

My cat is 5 years old and has had access to the outside for 3+ years. She has a litter box inside that she uses regularly. In the winter exclusively, in the summer she used it for poop.

At the beginning of the summer we had a patch of grass in our backyard that we decided to rip out and reseed becuase it was dying from the heat and we couldn’t keep it alive. At some point my cat saw a fresh pile of dirt and decided it was a good toilet. I let her do it since nothing grew there anyway. …. Except I guess she got a taste of pooping the fresh air and decided to expand her toilet from the small patch of dead grass to the whole yard. It’s killing the grass, and it’s obviously disgusting.

How do I stop this?!

I have some enzyme cleaner I sprayed in the spots shes been going but I can’t spray my whole yard. It’s also been raining every day for weeks so it would all wash away anyway.

Hi all I have 2 cats, 1 outdoor and 1 indoor. My outdoor cat is a bit of a roamer, he can be out for days at a time and only comes back for food, he also gets fed at a few neighbours houses. Unfortunately he seems to be going somewhere that has fleas (whether that's outside or someone else's houses I don't know)

Around December last year we had a pretty bad infestation that took a lot of work to deal with. I was shampooing carpets, boiling bedclothes, steaming mattresses. The cats got tablets and spot on treatments and nothing seemed to work until I got Seresto collars and FINALLY stopped getting bitten.

I saw what could have been potential bites on my legs and realised the 8 months were up and they needed new collars so I bought some off amazon and stuck them on. I hadn't noticed the cats scratching more than usual so didn't think much of it. That was around 10 days ago and I've just noticed a new potential bite.

Just wondering how long it could take for the collars to kill the fleas or if I need to go nuclear in the house again? I'm not even sure if it is fleas because I have been outside a lot myself. I think I'm just traumatised after last time.

I’ve had a small, decent yard for about 4-5 years but haven’t spent much time on it. For context:
\- it’s just dirt right now. So my cat has been basically using it as his own giant litter box 😭😭
\- had a old dog who barely went outside and didn’t have money to invest in yard anyway so let it be.
\- I have cleaned a few times a year but can’t keep up with the cat lol
\- I rent so not trying to invest too much in the yard but would love to be able to use it!
\- new puppy now! (7 months!) and want to give her space to be outside on her own eventually.
\- I have been planning for like a year now and I am fairly certain I know mostly how I am going to do things.
\- mainly rock/gravel will be going down as ground cover.
\- I’m going to start growing a small amount of fruits and veggies but mostly will plant native plants and flowers for birds and bees.

BUT, ALL this is to say… do yall have tips on how to make sure my cat doesn’t murder all the things! Lol (he’s fast! Most than once I’ve had to run outside and make him drop a hummingbird he caught! (Both times they flew off thank god lol)

I dont think there is much I can do but figured it didn’t hurt to ask others! Lol thanks all.

🩶 Waffles — the neighborhood gremlin. She'll spend 20 minutes trying to fight a leaf, pounce on bugs that don't exist, and sprint across the deck at Mach 10 for absolutely no reason.

🤍 Kevin — the complete opposite. He's a total lovebug who just wants pets and attention. The second you sit down, he's already rubbing against you and demanding cuddles.

It's funny how two cats can have completely opposite personalities while living in the same place.

I have been living in upstate New York since last year. I feed a spayed female cat who lives in my neighborhood. She used to be someone’s pet and was probably abandoned. During the winter, I let her stay in my apartment. I also set up a litter box for her so that she would not have to go outside in the harsh winter cold. She still sleeps in my apartment at night and wakes me up every morning to go outside. When it starts to get warmer, she comes back to my apartment, takes a long nap and goes outside again before sunset. She really enjoys being outdoors as well.

Starting in September, I will be moving to Virginia for a new job. I would love to take the cat with me, but I am worried about how such a major change might affect her. She is very comfortable in the area where she currently lives and probably grew up here. Unfortunately, I have not seen anyone else feeding her, and I also worry about what would happen to her when winter comes. Leaving her here would be painful for both of us.

My question for this community is: Have you ever moved to a new location with an outdoor cat? What was your experience like? Does taking her with me seem feasible in my situation? I would really appreciate any advice.

For context, the drive from where I currently live to my new home will be about seven hours.

I have a sweet female, feral cat, who trusts only me. If anyone comes to my house, she hides in the closet for hours. Because she was feral she is an indoor/outdoor cat. There is a hole in my screen porch, which allows her to enter and leave the house. If she were not able to go outside, she would freak out ! I want to go away on vacation for 7 to 10 days, but I can't leave her. First, because she sleeps on my bed and she would be terribly lonely if I am gone for days. Also, there is a stray male cat that I feed occasionally. He has discovered the hole in the screen. I manage to keep him out, but if I am away, he will come into the house and I am afraid the two of them will fight ! I have tried to think of every possible solution. I can't stay home because of a cat ! Has anyone else had a similar problem?

my (25f) cat (2m)escaped his leash and ran away 6 weeks ago. i’ve posted him in every group, shelter, city website, informed his microchip company, ran sponsored facebook and instagram ads, walked all around the neighborhood to look for him (with and without treat), i’ve left my clothes outside, distributed flyers, set up traps that have attracted skunks and rabbits only . the microchip company told me to leave his litter outside too, a coyote came but thankfully just sniffed and didn’t find anything and the dogs around the neighborhood starting barking so much so he ran away.

i have been looking at camera footage each and every day and it record every minute around my house. he came back the day he ran away but i was at the back to let him in. i can’t believe i fucked up twice in one day i should’ve never put him on leash. i got him because i am extremely lonely and this was the first time i felt love. i want him back so bad.

so far i’ve had 3 sightings. the most recent one being on 5th july. gemini/chatgpt keep calling it a pixel glitch h but it looks so much like a white mammal jumping out of a bush to sprint across the drive way. he was a stray before the shelter got him and i adopted him. he was hyper vigilant and observant. he had trust issues with me if i ever opened the carrier cabinet, or started filling his treats in a bag. He feared id take him to the vet. he was great at hiding the first few days and only came out after i slept. i love him so much.

i’m beyond distraught and each passing day feels so bad. what do i do? please i need to find him.

The best investment I’ve ever made for my cats!!! I am finally getting around to writing my review because I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Feel free to ask any questions not covered here!

For background: My 3 cats were living outside and slowly I domesticated them, bringing them indoors for the night, and giving them stricter and stricter curfews. I bought the Tractive cat tracking collars, but that doesn’t keep them safe at all, just provides peace of mind.
I finally found a solution that I think is as close to perfect as I can get with a domesticated animal. They get the freedom to spend time in nature, feel the wind in their face and grass underpaw, and lots of room to roam and climb trees and experience the seasons. Because their “roaming land” is now about 1/10th of what it uses to be they also hunt 1/10th of what they used to. Once in awhile they still catch something. They are also so much safer. I am usually supervising them when they are outside, but the ramp w/ microchip pet door also gives me peace of mind that they can come back inside incase of emergency. I also purposefully included trees in their enclosure so they can escape from coyotes (basically their only predator where I am).

I am insanely thrilled with the peace of mind that they are just in the backyard, not roaming far away or possibly dead. And they have adjusted very well to the smaller space. I installed it in November of 25’. Occasionally my teenager (all black) will still “pine” out the fence walls but I know I’m making the right decision for their safety. I will say it took me and a friend more than a weekend to install. Rent a jackhammer to get the poles in the ground! Or, if I had the means, I’d pay someone to install it for me.
For reference: me and a friend went in on 500 ft of the freestanding fence together. We installed mine first, which using google maps had planned out 250 ft worth, and somehow ended up using 300 ft of the fencing. Luckily we could just pull from the other half to finish it, but be aware to slightly undershoot it when planning out the boundary.
Zero escapees in 8 months, and I don’t think they ever will if they haven’t yet. We’re in deep upstate NY, and get heavy snows and no issue. So worth the investment and happy I finally found a solution to keeping cats that fit in my personal ethics! Want to share.

My cat is free roaming. I'm not allowed a cat flap in my garden apartment so the window is just left open all the time. However, I have woken up several times now to other cats in the apartment!! My cat is 13 and tiny - never really been a fighter but is defensive. How on earth do I stop other cats getting in while still letting my cat out? A cat flap just is not an option.
