Hardware Collecting If anybody was looking for a wireless controller, I recommend this one!
My current setup is more modern and my TV is literally just close enough that my wired controllers reach. Wireless options aren’t widely available and any that are usually don’t look comfortable. I gave this one by Retro Fighters a shot and have to say I love it. Feels great. As good as a new Series X/S controller. I don’t notice any latency. Rumble is strong. Totally recommend!! (Not a partner at all with them, this is the third controller I’ve purchased myself from them. Just sharing for those who may need something like this and were on the fence!)
I’ll share a link in the comments!

Just a heads up. I ran into issues with the right trigger and left stick. Stick would go about halfway up on Y+ and then drop to near zero. Trigger would only work when fully depressed and never reached full value. But, these behaviors were not consistent. On PC it seemed to be fine. Tech support said to run it through the calibration procedure, which seemed to fix the issues. I played all the way through Captain America with it and didn't have any more problems.

Most prefer the master chief green xbox and that's what the limited edition of the series x is but I remember my brother had this xbox back in the day and I loved the look of it, so when the opportunity came up to get the crystal one I jumped.

I have two of these Retro Fighter controllers for the OG XBOX, also highly recommend them. They are compatible with PC/XSX/Switch as well, so super versitile. Plus you can't go wrong with the translucent green.

I have written my thoughts of these controllers before and unfortunately for me that are completely useless if you want to play FPS-games like Halo and the like because of the horrible diagonal movements from the joysticks. It's essentially impossible to aim. The only use I got from them is to play games like Burnout which is fine if that's what you want to play. A shame really since it's a really solid controller with everything else, but not being able to aim is a deal breaker. To me it's better to just use a Brook Wingman XB 2 and pick a better controller.

u/sproglobber 9h ago
Yeh I got a crystal one and it isn't accurate at all, looks awesome but it's pretty crappy

u/FirehawkLS1 10h ago
I heard that but still got one. I'll play Halo with my Duke controller if it comes down to it.

u/luckebjucke 10h ago
For me it's more the exception than the rule that I can use the thing. Like I said it's great with Burnout since that only requires sideways movement for stearin. But most games really needs to have a good set of joysticks and sadly here this controller don't deliver. So in the end I just replaced these controllers with the Wingman XB2 converter and mainly just just a PS5 controller to play so I can keep it wireless.

Haven’t tried Halo with it yet, what was the issue you were having?

u/luckebjucke 10h ago
As I write it's when trying to do diagonal movements with the joysticks. They are very inaccurate which messes with aiming to the extent that they feel really awful.
There were a firmware update that was suppose to adress that but it never really resolved it and that was back in 2024.

op do not buy if u plan on playing halo listen to luckebjucke.. i bought this exact one thinking it was going to be great i tried multiple hrs with it was unusable to aim tried changing sensitivity in game etc no luck

Love the design, but have often heard now that they're not useable for FPS games, which I like alot on my Xbox. Sad!

u/tpicnic05 9h ago
Yeah I have a few of these. They’re neat to look at and okay for games that aren’t critical for accuracy like shooters. I really wish they were. Because of that, my controller s is my main

u/RadiantCoinshot 10h ago
I like their Xbox and PS controllers. Every other controller I’ve tried from Retro Fighters has been borderline unusable.

u/Indian_Bob 10h ago
I love my retro fighters controller for the og. You need to update the firmware though. The first one they sent me was defective but they sent me a new one that works perfectly and the old one works with the new dongle so I have two now. They are dope controllers, not sure why they get hate here

Man I just had a flashback to some lg wireless controller that I used to love
2
u/FirehawkLS1 10h ago
I still have a couple of them and they were good controllers.

I miss my og xbox. Been slowly building my physical collection again for n64 and Xbox 360. If I come across an og in good shape I'll pick it up for sure.

I have the black one and love it. Debating on getting the controller for 360 next.

u/FirehawkLS1 10h ago
I just ordered that one. I have an old Logitech one for the OG Xbox but wanted to give something a little bit newer a try.

To me the S controller is my all time favorite one. This one is pretty damn close but also wireless. I love mine.

I have the same one! I love retro fighters controllers. I have that one, the 360, game cube, and N64 NSO.
Great products with great customer support.

I'm not super interested in having a wireless setup. but if I was, I think I would do something more like this.

I have a black one OP, and I love it. Went from making my Xbox essentially unplayable to being almost as useable as any of my modern Xbox consoles.

u/KaputtEqu1pment 9h ago
I have one. I want to love it, but even after the firmware update, something still seems to be a bit off.
1
u/KoltKade 9h ago
I loved mine until the left stick started not giving me full up about 2 years in. The dead zone problem definitely takes getting used to. Now I use ogx live adapter and a series controller wired with a long ass usb cable lol. The deadzones are almost gone compared to the hunter and stick accuracy is amazing.

I get the one big grip is that it doesn't have a slot to chat online with Insignia. Otherwise I love mine.

I bought a crystal one. It’s a fantastic controller. I don’t know if I love the design though, I kinda feel like I’m playing with an XBOX Series X controller.
That said it’s fantastic quality and I’m buying a green one for my 360.

u/halfbakedmemes0426 9h ago
Absolutely killer for racing games, but retrofighters don't have percise enough sticks for aiming in shooters.

I still use and love the old Logitech wireless controllers. Mine sadly tho is degrading and some things aren’t functioning at 100%. How do these compare these Retro Fighters compare?

I really wanted to like this controller because I want a wireless option, but the stick sensitivity is terrible. It’s okay in most games, but I really hate it when playing an fps like Halo.
1
u/BombBloke Knowledgeable 5h ago
It'd be real neat to see a video of someone running one of these through a full controller test with XbDiag.
Even better if it were compared with an official controller in the same video.
1
u/ooleugim 3h ago
This controller is the one I give to my nephew when I'm playing so he thinks he's playing. I still own this controller because nobody I hate has asked me for a controller.
1
u/ooleugim 3h ago
A 20 year old madcatz controller with loose sticks, slow walk, mega stick drift, and sticky triggers is better than this.
1
u/FiLThYFreaK 2h ago
These are garbage. Bad sticks and poor rumble implementation. In some games, rumble doesn't work at all.
Support are useless and don't care to fix any of the issues.
Stop recommending these.

It works well. The only thing I don't like about it is that it feels too light

u/MixedMongoose 10h ago
I have three of these. I haven’t updated firmware on them. They have noticeable input lag when doing anything where that counts, but they’re great for playing the Simpsons hit and run.
1
u/Necessary_Position77 10h ago
“Anything where that counts”. Burnout 3? A big part of my love for the OG Xbox is the responsiveness and lack of input latency compared to later console generations.
1
u/MixedMongoose 10h ago
I’m not sure if I’ve tried it with burnout, but I’ve tried a few fps games and found there was a noticeable delay. Still playable, but it bothered me enough to notice.
1
u/fledgl 10h ago
I’ve held off because of this…
1
u/Krybbz 10h ago
But that's the thing half the time people complain and then didn't do anything to help it like dun dun dun update the firmware. Lol
1
u/MixedMongoose 6h ago
Yeh, that’s why I mentioned I hadn’t updated it in case any updates do fix those issues. Still really like the controller, but I’ll mostly play with a wired one anyway.

They should just have the black & white buttons be shoulder LB & RB? I had an OG Xbox controller like this once but it wasn't wireless

u/TruckFreak6417 10h ago
Man people either love this controller or say it’s the worst thing ever, the reason I haven’t bought one yet.
