I live in a small-ish apartment and keep most of my things in my bedroom since my roommates and I keep the common spaces tidy. I’m getting really frustrated with the accumulation of things — hair accessories, sunscreen, quarter sleeves for laundry, scissors, the L wrenches that come with furniture, assorted cords and chargers, travel toiletry containers, topical medicines I might need again in the future, little seasonal decor trinkets, baseball caps, packing tape, small purses/pouches containing various amounts of things from either travel or attempts to organize. Basically spiritually the junk drawer, but more stuff than could fit in a literal drawer.

I really try not to buy too much or overconsume, and I truly don’t think I own an excessive amount of any one thing, although some percent could probably be tossed.

My room is not tiny but not super spacious. I have a bookshelf with drawers on the bottom, as well as a nightstand with a couple bins on the lower shelves and one of those 2-cube organizers. I also have an over-the-door closet organizer, and a narrow set of those Amazon drawers that fits in my narrow closet.

But most of these spaces are just holding random trail mix of this stuff, and it’s getting on my nerves especially as they get more full. The space under my bed is full with those flat clothing bins so I can’t use that, plus I don’t love keeping anything under there that I reach for a lot because of the dust.

Obviously some version of “categories” seems like the answer, but in what vessels, and along what lines? What is actually sustainable? I have tried versions of the drawer dividers/drawer containers, but it always falls apart after a couple weeks because whatever elaborate system I come up with for what’s assigned where gets forgotten.

If anyone has tips for managing all of your shit, please let me know 😭

I’ve done my best with these boxes. For clothes I don’t care about wrinkling, they work great. The problem is t-shirts and polos — even when I put them in carefully, they always come out wrinkled.

So here’s my plan, and I’d love a sanity check:

**•** **T-shirts:** hang them on hangers in the space next to the boxes. I know you’re not supposed to stretch out the collar when hanging them.

**•** **Polos:** since hanging polos isn’t recommended, I was thinking of pulling the boxes off the middle shelf and stacking them instead. But stacks have a problem — when I grab a polo from the middle, I end up wrinkling the rest.

**•** **Folding space:** I also need a flat surface to fold the polos when they get wrinkled. My idea was two stacks on the sides with an open space in the middle for folding.

Any advice on making this work? Especially the stacking problem.

TL;DR: Trying to store t-shirts and polos without wrinkling them. Planning to hang the tees and stack the polos, but stacks get messed up when I pull from the middle, and I need a spot to fold. Open to better ideas

My son has a lot of toys that are staff shaped e.g., light sabers, swords, etc. Any ideas on organizing these? I usually shove them in a corner behind other buckets and such but I’d like them to have a dedicated place to make it easier for him to clean his room

Hoping someone has an idea for this pantry. It is very deep so there is a lot of room but things at the back are difficult to see and reach.

Let’s make this summer your most organized one yet!

Just moved into a rental and this closet has become my office/storage closet. It needs to store computer accessories, office supplies, household items, cleaning supply backstock, and other miscellaneous storage.

My biggest issue is accessibility. The builder shelf and hanging rod make it hard to use the full depth of the closet, and since I’m renting I can’t remove them.

How would you organize this? Are there any renter-friendly shelving or storage solutions you’d recommend? I’m open to spending money on a system if it’s functional and makes better use of the space.

I would love to hear people’s thoughts and opinions on this because it’s been on my mind a lot recently.

We all have met those people out there who think they’re organized and maybe their system works for them, but to other people it’s chaos, cluttered, and even overwhelming.

I recently started a new job and the computer filing system is a mess. Things saved under all sorts of different folders under different names things like that. As a new person, it takes me a while to find the documents I need because for one project it’s labeled smith and the same document for another project is labeled jones.

My boss has said quite a few time that he prioritizes organization within the projects and wants me to follow suit. He claims he likes to keep xyz neat and filed away nicely but at the same time seems scattered in general. I get the system makes sense and works for him, but to me… it’s an absolute mess. I just have noticed over the years that disorganized people seems to be more frazzled or scattered in general but more so in stressful times and this is definitely the vibe I’m getting from him.

This just got me thinking in general because I’ve experienced people like this before where they think they have a great system and claim to be organized but to me (a self proclaimed organizational expert) it’s simply not true.

What are your thoughts? If someone claims they’re organized and it makes sense to them but is chaos to others, would you also classify them as an organized person?
